Hi everyone there are a few people on here that use cfl's to grow MJ so last year sometime i decided to experiment with a cfl grow so i guess i will fill you in on what happened on my last few cfl grows then go onto detail my current grow
first of all i usually grow outdoors, so i wanted to take what i know from my outdoor grows (usually 6ft + plants)
my first cfl grow had limited success as i didnt have all the right equip but i really wanted to start growing -all those cfl grow logs really made me want to start- so i just chucked in a few bag seeds from some sticky icky that i had smoked - i keep only seed from MJ that blows my socks off - and waited when they sprouted i put them under 2 cfl's (i forget the wattage) and watched them flourish they loved. my first mistake was to plant them into one large foam box(the ones u see in supermarkets keeping the veggies fresh) which i had punched a few holes in for drainage, but this drainage wasnt enough and the plants ened up very sick after a couple of weeks (i ave never had any problem with these foam boxes when growing out side i use them to get my plants to 2 foot before planting out in the ground) so being severly dissapointed i pulled them and decided i would wait a bit to try again with cfl's
my second cfl grow was a half cfl grow as i planted a few plants outdoors but it was a little late in the (australian) bud season so they only got to about 1-1/2 foot tall and started going to bud, i brought one of them inside and put it under the cfl's, i only brought in one as i thought if i kill it i will still get yeild from the others, anyway it turned out great crystals out the wazoo, so this is what inspired me to try again with a full cfl grow.
Current cfl Grow, I got a chest of draws that is about 3 and a half foot tall and anout 45cm wide and about the same deep by sheer accident i foud that it fit perfectly on top of a foam box so i thought that i could sit the chest of draws on top of the foam box and use it to put my pots in (not gunna make the same mistake twice but it is warter proof so any over flow from the pots wont leak out and onto my carpet) thus giving extra height
i then set up 4 cfl's, 1 @20watt =100w 6500K 2 at 15w=75w 6500K and 1 @15w = 75w 3600K so they all where in a line about 3 inches apart.
I planted my seedlings seed rasing dirt and in a seedling tray you know the ones got 8 lil pots all joined togethere into a punnet.
after they got root bound in this tray (1 week) i planted them into bigger pots
at 2 weeks i took some photos they are the ones attached pic one is one of the 2 sativas that i have and pics 2 and 3 oare of a weird looking indica plant

now here are some current pics they are currently @ 3 weeks + 2 days of 12/12
I am flowering them now as i want to see if the whole veg and flower cycle can be acheived with this amount of light. In the next 2 weekd i will be getting a 2 foot fluro with 2 13 cool white tubed, but i will be changing these tubes out to some 10000k fluro tubes that i have found at a local aquarium store
concering nutes @ about 1.5 weeks i started them on a weak urea (46%N) solution every second water and gradually built it up to 3/4 stranght over about a week (i water about every second day) and yesterday (first day of 12/12 light) i watered them with a week soulution of aqualsol (very similar to regular thrive.... u know the yellow powder) which has a good amount of Nitrogen (13%) phosphourus about 20-25% and potasium @ 20-25 percent, it also has a lot of trace elements. i am not sure on the exact amount if each as i threw the box out a year ago when i brought it but i know it works have used it for years OUTDOORS

first of all thanks for the input i greatly appreciate anyone who contributes
yeah i was thinking that i should add another cfl or two as i was going to uses these light for a flower cab and the fluros (when i get them) for a veg cab:p :p :p
its hard to find really high wattage cfl's here in australia the biggest one i have found is 23 watts which equals about 120 watts
i am going to get a couple more 20w=100w cfls today
Thanks s12:thumbsup:

First of all, nah i don't know about the fert. But yea those leaves do look strange, really fat! Looking forward to seeing the end result ;)

ah great u beat me to the punch npk id nitrogen (N) phos (p i think lol) and patasuim is (K). that is a lil bit to high in the nitrogen content for flowering for my likeing but over all its not to bad

ohh ok, so those NPK numbers have to be lower for flowering? With that "something lift" fert i was using (1 in the brown container) doesnt say the NPK on it...any way i can tell?

oh nevermind, i think its 10-4-6, so is that better for flower or veg?churs
noodlesqld
07-20-2006, 04:28 AM
no i think the N is still to high i was looking around and see that the p and k need to be higher than the N as N is used to promote leaf growth and p and k are for flower growth

i just went out and got myself a 2 foot double fluro fixture and it came with 2 18 w power saving tri phoshure bulbs that are rated at 4000K, Can anyone tell me approx how many lumes these will put out.... Anyway, hopefully the ladies like it. i plan on putting the cfl's that i have around the plants for a little better light toward the bottom of the plant, as the first time i wired it up and pluged it in i noticed that not as much light is getting past the canopy

my cam sucks :( .
i will be setting up my cfl's around for better light around the side of the plant.....
I have not tiped these planst as i am just seeing if i can get enought light out of compact and normal flurecents as i would like to not have to buy a hid or hps. so this is very much an experiment i am interested in how thick and solid i can get the main cola, next project will be starting soon in a seperate veg cab with cfl's will get the whole sog/scrog (undesided) treatment as i will be trying to see how much of an increas in yeild i can get ;)

sup!!, been working my ass off got a new job....
well the two that where showing signs of sex turned out to be male they will be slaughtered tommorow when the lights come back on. I am so pissed but i knew that i might only end up with one female. so thats the way the cookie crumbles i guess.
well the offical count is now 1 FEMALE yay 2 males =( and 1 undetermined.
the one undetermined one seems to be growing really fast it has gained about 1 inch a day and has become the largest plant.
PIC's to follow on the weekend

everything is lookin good...one suggestion i have is to LST them...that way you can get some light to the lower branches....another thing is since you have 1 female go ahead a clip a few branches to clone....
noodlesqld
07-27-2006, 08:58 PM
yeah i was thinking of lst'ing them and i definently want some clones as the female is the one with the really fat leaves and talk about stink...lol thanks for the input pothead4204life

YAY the count is now 2 females 2 males,
I was so happy this morning when i got up for work looked in the "cuboard" and my last undetermined plant IS A FUCKING FEMALE. I was resigned to the fact the i would end up with one female so this second one made my day i am so glad i went to all the effort. cant wait to get some clones and start a veg cab. cant wait till the weekend so i can take some clones after i get it all set up for the lil ladies...........
pics to follow soon my cam is playing up or should i say my MicroShit XPlosion is...lol

just to clarify i used ONLY cfl's for the first five weeks then i got a 2 foot shot light which is suplemented by 3 cfl's that are on a frame that i can move i use this to provide light to the lower part of my plants, as they have not been topped i needed to get light to the lower branches.
ok I have started lst'ing them yesterday and they are loving it.

A question! : ........
Does flowering officially start as soon as 12/12 is started, or does it start when the flowers show?
For example.... "Jack Hererr takes 8 weeks to flower" - is that 8 weeks from 12/12, or 8 weeks from when the first tops appeared?
this confused me lol

Seed banks add to that confusion with a confusion of their own regarding if they're talking about 8 weeks of flowering, or 8 weeks total between the sprout turning ripe. As in, some make it clear, others make it fuzzy.
But right about the time a person starts seeing that just about every feeding schedule around is a 12 week process...however long a strain's flower time is...add an additional 4 weeks for the period when you're vegging.

lol bud breath.
dont quote me on this but i think it is eight weeks from when they show sex, but i could be wrong.
i would say the best bet is to use your own judgment if it is a matter of when to harvest. but if you are just chosing a strain its good to pick a relitivly quick flowering one, it all depends thou if you are gunna grow indoors or outdoors.

The manufacture or distribution of 60,000 kilograms of marijuana, 60,000 plants or 60,000 seeds all are included in death penalty provisions of the medieval law passed by a Newt Gingrich congress. FUCK THAT!! lol anyways man need some updates on your grow bro !! i wanna see how they are doing!! PEACE!!

the hermie turned out female (the one on the right) it only ever showed one pollen sack and i removed that, since then it has only showed white hairs the pics that i took dont really do it justice, it is way behind the plant on the left (the indica dominant plant) in the flowering process, the plant on the left is showing trichrom production and i hope to harvest in about 3-4 weeks.
I will try to take better pics of the one on the right (the sative dominant one) as it gets further along in the flowering process. I dont really want to move them out of the cubboard as they are lst'd but i will if to get better picks

the seeds are already in "bag seed" of course.:rasta:
details should go like this 2 cabs one for veg with cfl's and one with a mix of cfl's and fluros. i will be building the cabs myself as now i work a lot with wood i have the know how to build some good cabs. i still havnt figured out the exact specs but as soon as i get it up and running i will start a new thread and see how it goes.

Most strains are 8 weeks from 12/12. When they put an amount of weeks they means how long it take from the 12/12 light times. Some long flowering sativas can go on for up to 14 weeks.
Only if they actually say, 8 weeks from seed to harvest, like with LR.
