First Grow, Bag Seed

Hi Everyone, this is a continuation of an original thread in basic growing. http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=71443

My girl is close to 3 weeks into 12/12, being raised under a 175watt MH freebie and a couple of red spectrum 42watt CFL's. Been watered with well water, PH'd with superthrive added every time, bone meal in the soil, 30% perlite and a couple of feedings of fish emulsion. Last picture is my home made carbon scrubber and the clone I took from this plant just for practice, all rooted and growing good now! I wonder how much taller she'll get... Comments and suggestions appreciated!

Well Johnny,

I don't care what anyone says your plant is looking good. I'm always growing bag seeds and $$$seeds and your plant looks very health.

As far as how tall she will get under a 175MH with six or seven more weeks remaining of flowering? I couldn't say, my bag seed ones reach anywhere from four to seven feet tall but thats with 1400watts of hps. As far as suggestions remember more fresh air and more light always equal more buds.

Do you by any chance have access to an HPS conversion bulb. It'll screw into you metal halide lamp, but give you much more of the red for flowering. And remember what loco said "more light always equal more buds".

Well, I had a surprise in the mail today, my seed boutique order arrived, with Ak48 and NLxShiva and the freebie pack of Durban Poison x Skunk#1...so I think Im going to be ordering a 250watt hps ballast to finnish this plant off and maybe start a second smaller grow room and get an early start with my next set of plants with the bankseed. I was leaning towards getting a conversion bulb, but I figure the extra wattage should help and it gives me an extra ballast. She's had a large fan on her for her entire life, I also twist the stems.

The mid-grade she came from seemed great, however, I never smoked it, only ate it. It was cooked an 1/8 at a time into cookies... Oddly enough, with how Sativa'ish the leaves look, it has more of a body high then head high. Knocked me on my butt.. Im finding the same with the few leaves that I've collected that have fallen off, and from the Honey Oil I made from her three brothers. Thanks for the comments.

and LorDInfamous, no thats my carbon scrubber. I guess one could hang bud inside the can from the fan though since its blowing air in and it would filter all the smell out..hmmmmmmm :P

Update! Well, I had a hunch she had a Mg defficiency, so I figured it would do little harm to throw in some epsom salt once..and I think that fixed her wagon. The leaves aren't curling at the ends anymore(they were almost forming tunnels) and she seems much happier since that watering. She wont be getting any nutes for awhile though I dont think. She looks pretty dark.. Happy trails.:D

day 30 of 12/12... Fed her 12-55-6 Super Bloom by Green Light.. Didnt get that HPS yet, still under the MH and the CFL's. Also pictured is my SeedBoutique order for my next grow! Im pretty happy with how this bag seed is coming out so far!

The deal is...unless your bag seed comes from someone that spent time really looking after the grow (seeds are a good sign they didnt)...chances are, what anyone grows from bag seed is flat out going to be a better quality plant than how it originally came one's way.

yea i agree, iv grown some shitty and i mean shitty smokin weed seed to be some crazy dank shit, its all in how the plant was grown and processed.

Day 38 of 12/12 ! If anyone has some idea of what strain this might be, feel free to chime in. I thought with those long finger leaves that I was going to have heighth issues, but its remained very compact as you can see in the pictures... Also pictured is the single clone I took as practice for future grows, coming right along as well! :D

Day 48 of 12/12... Tried something different, got one of those 60-100x pocket microscopes and got some upclose shots. Anyone wanna throw in any feed back for how long left? First grow and all, never gotten to the stage of needing to judge when to harvest. Heh. Thanks!

Thanks guys! I based alot of what I did on my grow by watching buk's grow log, his timing seemed to be perfect for mine, always a few steps ahead. Lots of good info there.
The smell is kind of odd to me. Its very..greeny and sweet. It doesnt seem to have that in your face skunk kick that Im used to, so we'll see how it turns out dried. I think I will begin germ'ing the NL x Shiva and AK-48 this week!

Well.. Day 64 of 12/12.... Did I do something wrong to stall her? Trich's all seem to be clear under Magnification. I see no Amber yet, getting impatient. Picked samples only bring on a short lived head high and a headache! :confused:

Dpn't worry, the reason the stuff you picked off early sucked because it was not dried or cured properly.

Theoretically your plants could be harvested now, But I would highly reccomend leaving it a little longer, some people/plants don't harvest untill around the day 80 mark, But I think yours will be ready sooner, hard to tell without close-up detailed pics.

Just relax! you've done a great job so far and you're almost there!
PLEEEAAASE take the time to cure nearly all the buds (I'm sure you'll be dying to try some a little sooner) and do a good job of it, untill they are thoroughly cured.

It really gets the best out of your smoke, After all the time and effort put in so far, I'm sure you want the most from your harvest!

Thanks Jonny! Wow, 80 days? I hope not. I basically started killing them off with the sparse waterings and cutting the nutes out more then a week ago in anticipation of harvest. I hope she survives long enough for her trichs to at least become cloudy. I'll get some more pics with the microscope and camera later, but basically its a sea of clear trichs. I didn't realize the curing process contributed so much to the high. I'll give her awhile longer and then do a proper dry/cure..Im still a little paranoid to harvest now because everything is still clear on the main cola and most of the smaller ones even. Thanks for the reply again!

175 Watt Metal Halide and a little less then a three gallon pot. LST to get the most out of low wattage bulbs, eh?

update: Cloudy and amber! Chopped her down between yesterday and today. Water curing one and air drying/curing the rest slowly. Couldnt have done it without the boards help. Learned everything here! Already have the NLxShiva and AK47 sprouting and will begin a new grow log for those soon. :thumbsup:

misk - Very similiar looking, is that bag seed as well or do you know the strain? Im sure sativas are pretty ambiguous looking around that stage.

The big jar is for the cola that is getting water cured for a week. Cheated and took a smaller bud out today and quick dried it. Pretty happy with the buzz, the finnished product should rock!

Well, shes all dry now. Dry weight before curing is 32g. So about an oz out of this plant, which is what I was hoping for out of a first grow. As far as the water cure goes, there should be a few recent posts that will show up on a search that go over the specifics of it.
