I REALLY hated it the first time I watched it.. Couldn't see what the fuck was going on man... lol..:p

I was soooo stoned.. But then I watched it again (because it's a must see movie) and it was pretty good.. Now I've seen it very often:)

It's just a damn good story overall. It takes a serious yet so funny look at the world of drugs.

Well, in this case, I'd say see the movie first. I think because once you see the movie, you'll be like, "Man! That was fantastic! Now let's see how the book expands on this..." It's not one of those movies where you watch it and think, "Meh, I saw the movie, no need to read the book."

And i believe it was made in the late 90's

Raoul Duke is Hunter S. Thompson, it was just a pseudonym he used all the time. Thats why when the hotel clerk tries to give Depp's character the telegram, it is addressed to "A Mr. Thompson."

Read Thompson's other works as well guys, they're brilliant, and you'll most definitely find yourself agreeing with what he has to say.

I didn't know that he used the name Raoul!!
And I hadn't noticed the letter at reception...will keep an eye out for it next time

I just meant the Charecter that Johnny Depp plays is know as Raoul Duke in the film
But guess it all kinda makes sense really...

i love this movie..i have it and watched it a bunch of times. i still get confused throughout most of it. how its all about them going to find the american dream and all that kinda stuff. can someone explain this deeper meaning of the plot. i bet if i read the book it'd maybe be a little clearer. i just think its sooo funny and a great movie, but i don't completely understand it yet? i think i have to watched it when im really stoned.
can anyone explain this to me? thanks
