hi,
I had an old desperate friend come by today and too bad for him, he was strapped for cash. He said he neede rent, but I suspect he's into some junk. Anyways, he came by today with this guitar (picture). The guitar had crappy stickers all over it, and the top 3 strings didn't ring out. The neck was so warped that they didn't even ring an open string. I knew all had to be done was loosen the tremlo bar. I did so, and viola! All strings play now, but the neck will have to replaced in a few years.
I cleaned it all up, got all the stickers off, tweeked it a bit, and it looks brand new. It says 'Fender on there, but that's all. I'm not sure of the model and all, but I am curious. Sounds amazing as well. Better than my Strat I think.
I paid the guy $150 in cash and sent him on his way. He gave me a case, strap, and a pack of strings with it. It sounds amazing and goes great with my Fender amp.]
Sorry for the long rant, :D, but do you think I did good? I love the feel of it. It's so small and I can wrap my big hands around it. Yay or ney?
if its american made then yeah
does it come out of tune easily though?

it says fender on there? that's an sg style guitar in the picture, and i'm pretty sure fender have never made anything like that
but if it plays good who cares, right?

Nope. It stays in perfect tune, even after bending the shit out the strings. :p I do a lot of bending and squealing, and it stays in perfect tune.
It's not American though. :o Indonisia it says on the back.
I checked for flaws, I found none. No spaces, no nicks. It looks brand new.

Yup, it says Fender on the very top of the neck pice, and on the back, it says, "produced and manufactured by Fender", but "made in Indonisia."
I'm confused about it as well as you're right, it seems Fender wouldn't make anything in this style. No imprinted parts on the body though, so perhaps maybe a different body with a replacement neck?
And ya, it plays amazingly well. I was expecting it sound like a cat in heat, but it sounds rich, thick, and ballsy.

it could be a dearmond guitar
dearmond is a fender-owned company with factories in indonesia, and they have a few sg models
don't know why they'd put fender on the headstock though

You got a "deal". But the best things come from not taking advantage of a desperate person. I hope that this guitar takes a shit on you and is never able to play a single note again...., but thats me. No hard feelings.
One other thing, if i may?
Dont go through life being an opportunist.

I wouldn't be so quick to pass judgement on this guy. I mean, the "desperate" guy did come to him, not the other way around. And by buying this guitar he may have prevented his old friend from going homeless.

yeah kinda of wierd about the your SG is it being a fender but i would definitly say a good deal
i have a 70's reissue strat which is amazing and a epiphone SG which i also adore SG's have an amazing feel and vibe. but my strat just screams malmsteen haha.
isnt it a truss rod that you adjust in the neck because when i think of tremlo i think of a tremlo bar being a whammy bar but i dunno
and would that happen to be a bently acoustic in the background my friend has a black one which is amazing looks like same headstock
make it legal

I'm not passing judgement. I made a life out of playing music, he asked the opinion of a musician, and i gave it to him. If he really wanted to prevent an "old friend" from going homeless he would of done something so his "old friend" didnt lose his guitar.
One sure way to make sure a friend becomes an "old friend" , is to take advantage of them.
I guess asking what others think isnt always a good idea, eh?
You might hear things you dont want to hear.

Whoa friend, you don't even know the whole story. First off, an old friend means my old junky friends, who really weren't my friends. Second, he offered the guitar to me for $200, but the top 3 strings didn't ring out, so I offered him $150, and he accepted.
I didn't take advantage of this person. They wanted money, that minute. Have you ever dealt with a hard drug user? Yeah, I'm going to start preaching to this person and help them. Been there, done that, and hard users are the most stubborn. He was happy about the deal, and so was I.
I'm not here to help the world get off drugs. I didn't rip him off, or treat him like dirt. I offered him a toke and he declined. He was in search for something else, which I could not help him with.
I'm sorry if I have my own life to deal with first then junkies who don't want to quit.
I asked an opinion about the guitar, not about the situation, so if you have something creative to say, ABOUT THE GUITAR, then I'd be glad to hear it, but I did not rip him off or treat him any less than a human. I have my own ass to worry about and my alcoholic best friend who I am trying to save from killing himself. I can't help every person who walks in the world.

Oh, i see. you are just taking care of the most sick. gotcha.
Here's the deal.
You asked for our opinions. You got mine.
How about being human,... see whats going on with your "old friend", and politely say to him..." as much as i would like to have this guitar, under these circumstances i cant accept it. You'll have to find another who will. I hope you get well. You're not looking very good and i believe your making bad decisions"
What a nice thing that would of been for you to do.
Isnt it nice to ask the opinions of others? Take it like a man.
Nobody is asking you to help every person in the world. I certainly aint. Is it too much to ask that we not take advatage of those less fortunate, or less together, than we are?
As for junkies not wanting to quit? I do not believe that for a moment.
There is no way that any person will ever be able to convince me that a junkie, crack addict, meth addict, or alcoholic, are happy living in, and with their current situation.
Humans make bad judgement calls all the time. It is up to us to NOT take advantage of them when we see them making those bad calls.
That could be you, me, your family member, etc etc. Dont think it couldnt. I'm sure those who are now stuck never believed it could happen to them.
If your goal is to take advantage of those who have lost control, you will probably be very "successful" in doing so. There are many people who have lost it.

Anyways...
I maybe think it's a Squier model...? It has the serial number on it still and I've been looking for e-mail support to e-mail at Fender. Now my mind has me really wondering what this guitar actually is. There are no company markings on the body, at all.
Peace.
