YES! Devin the Dude, i compltely forgot about him, haha, he's awesome. A Tribe Called Quest are really great also. I'd have to say The Slim Shady LP was better than The Marshall Mathers LP.

I think Eminems Slim Shady LP is the closest thing that rap has came to punk rock. That album was so creative and so out there when it came out.

like homey above said, eric b and rakim is excellent
as of late, chamillionaire stands out above everybody
when others are rappin bout dealin drugs and shootin guns,
cham has some deep lyrics. i strongly suggest any fan of hip hop
to go buy sound of revenge. instant classic, every song jams from start
to finish. and of course bun b. check out trill, bun b is def king of the rap game imho

I acually don't really know the difference I guess but rap is usually alot "darker" and over one looped beat made with computers and shit....with hip hop the producers are usually way more involved in things, digging for old records to make songs better, makeing remixs etc. its really hard to specifically point out the difference though but you can usually hear the difference between the two

hip-hop is a lifestyle...and rapping is somthing you do...just because a lot of the rappers named like Eminem, D12, Wu tang, Mobb Deep, Ice cube, Snoop Dogg, Tupac...didnt come out in the golden era of hiphop doesnt mean its not hip-hop..its still hip-hop today whether you like the music now or not...

no doubt the older stuff was better hiphop...doesnt mean the new shit aint hiphop...hip-hop is pretty much, is just about being diffrent from everyone else...just because you dont liek Eminem doesnt mean hes not good...i know plenty of people who dislike Eminem but they can recognize his ability to rap

and Mobb deep not hip-hop?! now they suck yes...but listen to Infamous...one of there first albums, you cant find another album like that one

You need to check out mixtapes., the grey album is a mixtape(obviously), but my point is, the mixtapes are where its really at..what do you think producers do now?they still come out with remixs...amd producers are digging through crates more than ever now. the producers out now are phenomenal...the beats more complex...yes there still are some beats that are ridiculous but thats hip-hop....always people trying to seperate from eachother, and the ones who copy...well you notice and they end up fizzling out,

you want good producers...check out
tony touch
Clinton Sparks
Timbaland
Dre
Cool and Dre
DJ Smallz
DJ Drama
Shawty Red
Just Blaze
Sha Money XL
9th wonder
J-dizzle(rip)
DJ Khaled....if you have Sirius Satelite radio you can catch a lot of music...the music on the regular radio and on TV do no justice...get mixtapes and satilite radio, they play Dangermouses music on that bitch 2

DM and Jemini was DangerMouse's last good album. DangerDoom was an alright collab, but Jemini...

I only like Cage's in Stoney Lodge. Other than that he pisses me off.

Sweet Talking to your Brain by ADeeM was really good.
Music By Cavelight by Blockhead.
Atmosphere... except seven's travels.
Murs, Felt is a damn good collab.
Real hip hop.

I'm with 3rd Eye on this one.

I dunno, I kinda feel like hip hop and everything is too big and diverse to put it in one group...like even if you type in rap and then type in hip hop on a fileshare program you can notice a big difference in the artists. I also kinda think rap and hip hop songs are built differently lyric wise, rap is more freestyle ranting(cant really think of anything to explain it), and hip hop usually has a real distinct chorus and almost less of like building up in the song till one point when it climax's its(usually) a constant flow almost.....I dunno though everyone probably has a different opinion on this.

I know what you mean. I listen to blockhead, which is really like an electrosomethingorother. Very diverse, but united by their lack of popularity, but their uniqueness of style and intellect.

Where did that come from?
