View Full Version : Should I Do It?!

Alright, I've been reading/hearing more and more about people being busted..and its really making me wonder if I should do a grow on my own? I know the first rule of dont tell anyone, but that rule has already been broken because I talked to my future roommate about it to make sure he was cool with it. I have known him for a long time, and I know thats not an excuse, but it'd be kinda hard to have a grow without him knowing. He is the only person that will know in the town that I go to school at.
I guess I should explain my situation. I go to school at a smaller town, but the cops are incredible douche bags (they were arresting girls for earning beads last year during cinco de mayo  ). I will be living in an apartment, but the landlords own all the other complex's in town so I dont think there will be much of a problem with that. I plan on starting the grow as soon as I move in as to not make the electric bill jump, although it will just be a 250 HPS, 2 or 4 plant grow. I lay low, dont attract much attention to myself, and have never been in trouble with the law (knock on wood) HA.
I'm really just needing reassurance and advice...anything would be greatly appreciated...

Think about it.. what kinda people will your roommate be bringing in the place? No matter how long you have known him/her... chances are they will tell someone one else whats going on, and before you know it, your secret is spread like wildfire. Another thing, im not sure about the apartments there but where i live there are monthly inspections and pest control people coming in even when you are not there.

Exactly you should be more concerned about ur roommate and not your bill. A 250hps doesnt pull to much electricity a wont cause a concern, a computer pulls more than that. You know the rule dont tell anyone, my first grow I told about 3 of my closest friends that I grew up with and they all told there dumb girlfriends. After that you just start getting paranoid when you start seeing those huge buds start forming:p Stuff spreads fast man one day your roommate could get trashed and just open his mouth thinking that no one would tell. Just think really hard about it and check the landlord inspection thing to. Make sure to read your lease properly and look in it for inspections

GOOD LUCK

L3G10N, what do the monthly inspections consist of? Its not like the landlord is gonna rummage through my closets and open everything up is it? My roommate has a girlfriend (not a smoker), although I bet he has told her...
AHHHH I dont know what to do. I may wait until like...a few months and THEN bring in the stealth grow? Would that make any difference or what? Frustrations!

Well, the inspection usually consist of checking a/c filters, and fire alarms. Apartments i lived in before had monthly walk throughs just to make sure people were not screwing up their apartments. And also they had monthly pest control spray the apartment, even going into our rooms while not home.

A locked grow cabinet can prevent in any snooping cant it? They dont have the right to search through my things do they?

No not with your permission or a warrant. They have no right to search your personal belongings thats why you should always go stealth box with a lock in those types of situations. I seen all types of clever stealth boxes made here on this site like a huge speaker box, computer towers and recently a big cabinet well heres the post, need to be handy with the wood tho:thumbsup:

You already got TWO people who are going to know about your grow. You are going to grow in an apartment that gets monthly inspections. Now, you are honeslty that fuckin stupid to think it is safe ? Jesus Christ man, have someone kick you in the nuts, you done lost your fuckin mind. Stop beggin for someone to hold your dumbass hand and send you to prison while they do it. Get real, d00d. DO NOT GROW THERE!

Thats really bummin me out. I've talked to my roommate more and he hasnt told his girlfriend. I still havent decided...but I'm leaning more towards no grow... I appreciate your comments everyone, there were even a few heartwarming ones HA. Anyways, I just drew up some plans for what would be my grow box. Figured I'd share it with y'all just to see what you think, even though it probably wont be happening...

There are a few things about this that I have always pondered on:
1) Would a 10-gal res/plant container be enough nute solution to support four plants in net pots?
2) With a drip setup like this, what size pump should be used, and how often should it be run?
3) A carbon filter should be used with a centrifugal fan correct? An inline blower from Home Depot possible?
4) How should seedlings be started in a hydro grow? In rockwool cubes or what?

The front would be faux finished to look as a dresser with drawers and handles and all, with the intake fans in back and the carbon filter exhaust coming out the back. In the seedling chamber I was planning on using a heat mat with a thin germination tray and 2 x 2ft flouro tubes.
Anyways, if you have any questions or comments, theyre greatly appreciated, and itd be awesome if I didnt get any bashing this time...just looking for help here.

Forget what YOU think will work. Get yourself a grow manual, be it a book, DVD, etc. (Me? I used a overview grow guide from Nick@Dutch Seeds) takes you from A to Z...you can find his site off High Times) My first grow?.....30 glass quart jars of the best White Widow...couchlock weed! EIGHT MILES HIGH

Yeah I have read all the books, but the forums seem to be the best way to go to get specific questions answered. I have the Cannabis Grow Bible, read it a few times in fact, so thanks. If someone could help me to upload a picture though, thatd be great!

Can't help you with the picture info. (picture of what?) The forums fill in the blanks. Your grow guide shouldn't leave too many blanks.

Ive been told that 10 gal res is only adequate for one plant... 1 plant per 10 gal. rez. 20 gallon, two plants... 30 gallon 3 plants.. and so on.
