I've heard good things, and I love the technique they used in filiming (same thing they used for Waking Life, which everyone should see).

its about an extremely addictive drug called substance d (slow death). And an undercover cop uses a scramble suit, which goes through millions of faces to hide their identity. He is assigned to track a man named bob arctor, and it turns out he is bob arctor. Its really crazy. ive read the book, but havent seen the movie yet.

Waking Life made me want to throw up. Absolutely NO plot, just scene after scene of people talking about fluffy, philosophical nothingness. I'm by no means against "artsy" movies, but Waking Life took it way too far. And now, I'm reminded of it every time one of those retarded Charles Schwab (or some investment company) commercials come on.

I do want to see A Scanner Darkly, though. Anyone know what it's about?

I have no clue what this movie is suppose to be about, but the film work looks weird as hell. It's like, hakf cartoon and half real, rooled in one. I may check it out.

yeah, it was supposed to come out two years ago, but the animation they do takes 500 hours to do a minute of the film, so they had to delay it.

i would go to it, but the only place in my state that will have it in the theatre is an hour away

i saw it friday. its pretty tight, its funny. you can feel the nervous breakdowns of these ridiculous addicts. the animation is tight, it feels like you're watching from a trippers view.

I saw it last week and I was really disappointed. The animation is great. Keanu Reeves and Woody Harrelson look great animated. The scramble suits the police wear are pretty cool but the movie never really takes off. To me it was just a room full of drug heads being dumb. This had the makings of a really good movie but it never got there. :(

hempsmoker25, I have read the book too and really thought this movie would be good like the book. Even more so since George Clooney produced it. It just did not live up to the book at all. Keep your memories of the book and don't waste your cash on the movie!

What if you've not read the book? Would the movie be a good alternative?

If you can rent it cheap...it is one of those movies that just never really takes off, you know? The only reason I stuck with it is the animation. It was fun seeing Woody Harrelson animated.
Rent it when you can and tell me what you think. I would be interested in a review from someone who has not read the book.

Ok guys. Just finished watching it and feel totally confused. The movie was hard to follow, how the hell did he watch himself on the moniters and not realize it was himself? Were the roomates talking about the secret cameras in the house, how the hell did they know and not seem to care? What was that whole conversationa about with the note on the door? WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ABOUT????!

Captain Hanks

Ok guys, just finished to movie. What the hell? I totally didn't get it. How did Bob watch himself on the moniters and not realize it was himself? How the hell did the roomates know there were cameras in their house watching them, but not do anything about it? What was that whole conversation about the note on the door about?

BlueCat

His friends were just always in a paranoid state because of the D...so they really did not know the cameras were there. The note on the door was silly. He said he left the note on the door saying come in as a trap because he didn't feel anyone WOULD actually come in and then when they saw someone DID come in they were all paranoid. I kinda thought that part was funny.

He didn't watch himself on the monitors. He watched them but there was another cop in one of those suits that watched them all.

They were actually seeing if they could trust him enough to get him to spy on the company that got people off of D which was really the company that was making it. Does any of this make sense? I am probably not explaining it very well.

You guys didn't like it? I personally loved the movie... all 4 of the main characters did really well in their acting, even Keanu Reeves, who I don't always enjoy in every film.

I liked the story too, and the overall mood of the movie... I guess for some people it gets kinda confusing but I liked it. Good points to laugh at too.

Maybe I'm just different, but I personally recommend it for anyone who likes to pay attention to somewhat-convoluted storylines.

Aw ok that makes sense now. Except the part about himself not watching himself. Wasn't he allways in the scramble suit watching the recordings in his house like where the guy was choking and when he did that chick. Also the part where that random chick turns into that other girl, and shows it on the camera's to, he was just tripping right?

Yeah I saw it was good, but it's not a movie I'd watch stoned. I don't know, to me it's kind of an anti-drug movie. Not in a big way but it's such a downer it kind of is better to watch sober. Maybe watch it stoned the second time or something.

Winona Ryder is fine.

BlueCat
12-28-2006, 06:34 AM
No he wasn't tripping she was a cop too and he did not always watch himself there was another cop in a suit watching as well. They took turns when he was off duty the other cop was watching but Reeves knew he was being watched all the time. His friends did not know. I think you are being confused by the changing suits the cops wear. :)
it is a confusing movie.

Captain Hanks
12-28-2006, 06:38 AM
Ok ok that makes sense. Yes it was, in fact midway through I though the confusion was apart of the movie. One last question, if he was watching himself part time, how did he not realize he was Bob?

Captain Hanks
12-28-2006, 06:56 AM
Another questiom, why were they "after or looking for" Arctor in the first place when he worked for them?

BlueCat
12-28-2006, 07:26 AM
They were watching Arctor to use him to infiltrate the Oh I can't remember the name...the people that were suppose to get people off D....police at the top including Winona Ryder were trying to prove these people were behind the drug to begin with.

He knew he was Arctor but the cops at the lower level didn't. None of the lower level cops knew each other. Maybe you should watch it again I bet it will fall into place then :)

Captain Hanks
12-28-2006, 07:35 AM
Ah, ok ok I get it. Those were the only things I was confused on, just didn't fit. I actually am planning on watching it again for other reasons haha.

Man...this movie is tripping me out though. I hear of it one day, might even be on these forums, then I start hearing about it many more times in a relatively short amount of time, which was tripping me out priorly.

Then I go rent a movie one day and blam the movie is on the wrong spot of the store just sitting right there...practically in my face. I picked it up, but then let it go for another movie soon after. Then as I'm waiting in line I see the movie again in the middle of a snack rack!! I was totally aware that it must have been some sign or some shit, but I surprisingly kept the movie I wanted to see anyway.

I really should rent it though...soon.

The movie follows the story line of the original novel VERY closely.so if you read the book by Philip K Dick and liked it, you will most likely enjoy the movie as well.It has a twist ending that will surprise most people (at least those who DIDNT read the novel.)

I'm surprised this movie isn't better known amongst stoners. I watched it tripping (on DXM, btw) the first time, and by the time the first song started playing I knew I was in for a ride.

I was super baked when me and my girlfriend seen this at the movies. She snuck in some henny in her purse and we proceeded to get drunk and confused as the movie went on.

I thought the acting was good, but the story wasn't that engaging, Then again I was drunk and high.

Haven't seen the movie, but the book was odd. Remember that Phillip K Dick thought aliens were beaming pink light into his brain. Maybe they were, maybe they weren't- the essence of it is that it's hard to write coherently with pink light waves invading your brain.
