So. I have this plant that started outside 2 weeks ago in a controlled enviorment now for the last few days.
The plants are a few inches high, the stem is not all green. I have 2 lights about 5 inches above them. I am not sure if these are the correct bulbs. Could someone take a look for me?

What light are you using? What ever it is it looks to be too much on the red side of the light spectrum.

Well for one thats a warm white, that should only be used for flowering or mixed up with cool white lights. I recommend you getting some cool white incandescent lights and replacing that one for the time being and just go out and buy a cool white light. Btw where did you buy that light? :)
And 23w = 100w only means it emits just as much as a 100w light but only uses 23 watts.

It's under two of these about 18 hours a day. The type of lights that you mention, are they CFL lights like this?

Yes, with fluoro's and incandescents there are 3 types of lights (if I'm not mistaken) and thats soft white, cool white, and warm white, right now you really only need a cool white CFL.

Compact Fluorescent or Compact Fluorescent Light, exactly what you have :).
And like I asked before, where did you get that light from? I'm trying to buy a couple.

you boys are getting ripped off...trust me...i have looked at prices and types of lights for non stop the last 3 weeks..and i am here to tell you...you are buy little cheap ass lights that you will end up needing a whole sht load more of because they are not 100 actual wattages...they are equivelents...they are probably really 13watts or 23 watts...something in that range...its a lot cheaper...TRUST ME...to just buy an actual 150watt CFL off the internet for AT MOST 65$...then this is pretty much the only lighting you would need for a small personal grow

The bulbs are 120watt "Agro-Lite" by phillips. Model BR40. 5 inch diameter.
These are not like the smallers spiral type of cfl I had, these are big old bouys.
I left only one of them on overnight and the plant REALLY seems to like it. Maybe an inch growth...

I rigged the two lights to the top of a grill/smoker (guess I won't be smoking any ribs for a while. From the soil to the light bulb is about 3.5 feet. Since the bottom is open, I have a fan blowing up the smoker and the vent on top fully open.
What would be the best to line the inside of this smoker with? I know about whight paint, and Mylar coating, but is there anything less expensive and easier to apply and is also fireproof?
scottjamez

The temp inside is 90F and humidity at 60%.
Is this plant too small to give nuts to?

If I could afford an HID I would. I can only affor $20 - $30 per week right now. Maybe sometime down the road.
With the two 120Watt incadesants and the two 100watt "warm" cfl's that I have, will I be able to grow a small plant inside this smoker?

So I got a 14 day old plant that sprouted and grew with all of the wrong lighting and temp conditions. After 10 hours with 240 watts of the correct light it sprang to life and doubled in height.
The bottom part of the stem still has a redish/yellowish color to it. Doesn't look that bad, just worries me.
I have a thermostat sitting right next to the plant. 90 Deg. F / 58% Rel. Humidity.
I was thinking about going to pick up some nutrients and fert for it today. The
This smoker comes aprt in three places from top to bottom. I think one good thing about growing it in this smoker is that I can Flower the hell out of the top while still growing the bottom third to veg.
Any advise on light timing? How many hour / day should I keep the lights on?
Experts?? Comments? Suggestions?
i veg mine using 20/4...but what kind of bulbs have ya got there?

The bulbs are two 120watt "growing" bulbs. Incadesant I beleive. I have some other CFL's that are pretty stong but I was told they are only good for plwering. Take a look up the thread, I have pics of them all.

Yes, thats the right light . If you have enough of those light, you can even flower you plant with them, but not many people do so.

I think those are more like a halogen and produce more heat if anything try to use a fan to cool those things down. Keep the light at 18 on 6 off for Veg, trust me you dont want to go 24hour cause of your set up. That smoker is like an oven with all that metal your going to be toasting that plant try to keep an AC on in your room at least when you have the lights on if you have one. I see that your growing only 1 plant, would you be pissed if you have a male or are those Fem seeds? Good luck I'm just trying to help you out;)

She is getting about 8.5 inches tall. Real skinny on the bottom stem. I just moved it to a smaller pot that has pearlite in it. She also got some cactus juices stuff. Hopefully it will grow better stem and roots in the new enciorment with a low watt bulb right next to the stem and having it kept real cool inside. The bottom is almost empty and I have a strong fan blowing up.
As far as it being a male/female, I sprowted one seed and planted it for shits and now I guess I have a 50/50 chance. if it is a male, at least I got practice growing and I will know if the cooker will work well or not.
I'll get some pics up soon

I'd save up then, I did the same thing you did, kept buying CFL's till my nose bled, they do work, but compared to HID, they aren't good for much (other than lighting your house cheaply). the nice thing they have going is you can stick them in tight spots really close to buds, but again, a $79 150w HPS from home depot replaces 10-15 of those cfls.
http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=67935 I used to use CFL's till I upgraded to hids (all under $200 btw), check it out. Just can't do that (in that timeframe) with cfls. BTW those "plant lights" you have may be ok, but put out too much heat, 90 degrees in your "smoker" will hermie your plant.
Dont mean to step on anyones toes, CFLs can work wonders on single plant (b/c you can tuck them everywhere) but for anything over 2-3 plants pretty much requires some sort of HID imo. :stoned:

What would you get at home depot or lowes that would be good for 2 4ft plants?
How much more heat is generated from an HID, a decent one?

Well I got rid of that one plant. Killed it. put 3 seeds in each of 4 pellets... water... soil on top. Got them sitting in the oven now. I took off the side door and am blowing cool air into it. Hot air is coming out of the vent on top.
Is it bad to start them three per pellet? I figure thatI will just kill off the 2 smallst at one point pretty early on. I have 4 larger pots for them to go into.
