Anyone find being called a "pothead" offensive?
I find it being called a pothead offensive, not like "asshole" offensively, but just not as 'right' as Stoner
what do you guys think?

I'm ambivalent about it. I think you could turn "pothead" into an insult a lot more easily than "stoner", but as long as the person saying it isn't being intentionally insulting/mean, then I'm fine with either one.

I don't mind either way, because people will almost always think what they want. And even if you take the time to explain the differences or your side, there is still a high chance people will just concur with you to your face, but still think what they think.
I don't mind either name. Why? Because there's no point in taking the time to care about such things. hehe We are what we are, if I'm a pothead, I'm a pothead. If I'm a stoner, I'm a stoner. I don't care either way, I just know I love herb and I don't need any names or titles for that. =)

Ah I dont really care, people who call me names like that (which are very few) are dickheads anyway.
The kind of guys that put pictures of E pills and Hash leafs everywhere and on their Bebo/MySpace because they like dance music but wouldnt never touch a drug.

my friends and i usually call each other potheads if we ever lose each other in conversation and we say it with a funny "stoner" voice, just as a joke. other than that, who cares. anyone calling you names is probably what, 7th grade or under? and if not then they obviously need to grow up.
I try to refrain from refering to this community as stoners...not all of us are, some people smoke medicinally and i'm pretty sure not all of them want to be called stoners or potheads.
Personally if someone called me a stoner or pothead I would admit that I am (or was when I had money), I wouldn't call myself a stoner anymore I dont really smoke that much....maybe a joint a day and a couple a day on the weekends

using the word 'head' as a suffix in this manner indicates the desparity and unnecessary dependence a person has on the substance that the preceding word describes. there's cokehead and smackhead (i guess) . You'll notice there's not a lot of other labels people use for those hooked on coke or heroin. However, for those exclusively of the marijuanian persuasion, there are several appellations that I don't need to list that people use with a certain levity, having a degree of a sense of humor about it. Anyway, I think 'pothead' is definitely used as a contemptuous label to classify us into a category same as those actually hooked on harder drugs, as one who instead of having a brain in his head, it is actually filled with pot because it's all he's capable of thinking about. I'm personally offended by very little, but I know the spirit that's intended when I'm referred to as a 'pothead.'
PS didn't the guys in half baked get stamped with the word 'pothead' one by one like it was a label?

find it degrading, dont mind stoner though, just seems more casual and less like an insult

I find it offensive the way people say things. Like when my stepmom says "pot" she just sounds like such a bitch I want to smack her..
I can't describe a difference in words, but I can just feelthat I'm not a 'pothead', I'm a stoner.

Most people don't have the slightest idea I smoke, if it comes up, I gladly let them know, but mostly only my close friends know I' a stoner, and nearly everyone of them is as well.
