Ill try and chime in a little here...
Whats the pH of the water/soil?
What brand of soil are you using?
And most importantly... youre not using any nutes are you? The last one is mainly for beginners, sorry if Ive offended your intellect a little there :)

smackem...
you need to lower the light... do you have a fan? have the fan blowing up towards the light.. blowing the heat away from your plants.. lower the light a couple inches everyday.... you shuld be able to get the light 1 foot from your plants.. for now try to get it 2 feet from your plants.. there is no use in having a 1000 watt hps if it is going to be 4 feet away from your plants..

basicaly, the rule is this..
put your hand where the canopy of your plants are.. if your hand can stand the heat, so can your plants.. 4 feet is to far... : ) start LOWERING
you need to get this...

it will be the best investment you could ever make!!

PH is the corner stone of indoor growing!!

GK, do you recommend having the pH at a constant level all the time (6.3), or do you think its better to have it fluctuate between 6.0 and 6.5? In theory a slight fluctuation would be better as it means the plant can uptake all the nutrients it needs. Or can MJ in soil, with a pH of 6.3, uptake all the essential nutrients?

HI Tom...
Yeah I think some fluctuation is nice... I think that human error probably provides enough fluctuation.. In aeroponic/hydroponic systems, even with expensive PH meters the PH fluctuates between 5 and 6 and the plants seem to be fine... and like you said, it allows all the nutrients to become 100% available..

When I grow soil.. I shoot for 6.8...
