I want to buy a 400W HPS reflector with remote ballast and I'm trying to decide between two types: the Cool Tube or the Econocool SS-10. They're both about the same price and I was wondering if anyone has any experience using either of these lights and can offer a critique of them. Thanks. :smokin:

Hi Trip...
I have not used either of these products personaly.
That being said, if you exhaust a hood or any light fixture/enclosing..with a decent fan you should get GREAT results. Pulling the heat away from your light/plants and exhausting it AWAY from your grow allows you to get the light closer to your plants... With adequate ventilation they should be nearly equal... which means it will come down to your preference and space...

I use a cooltube with a 400 watt HPS, Seen the EconoCools too, but I decided on a cooltube for myself, and have no regrets.

i have had experience with both. i had a 1000w econocool and damn that thing put up a lot of heat. about 92-105 degrees. I now have a cool tube after returning the econo. I love the cooltube. Its save a lot of space compared to the econo. The econo reflector are the same size. The cooltube IMO is good and never regreted it. I'm about to get another 400w cooltube for the hell of it to see if i can pull over 1 1/2 lb with 5 plant. The only difference i think would be the space it takes up and the light that are being reflected down.

i just switched from a cool tube to a econocool reflector, the cooltube is better at cooling than reflecting, the econocool is a better reflector.i switched becouse i added a portable ac to the room.if you have problems with temps go with the cooltube

MY GOD...!!!!!
LOL
NICE BUSH!!!!!!! ahahahhah
very NICE JAM.. what happened..? were you planning to keep these plants short.. and then they just GOT away from you?
When you grab that cool tube, does it burn your hand? I love how close you have it to your foilage!
Another LIGHT will have a substantial effect on your YIELD.. THAT canopy is so darn THICK and you must get very little penetration..!!
BEAUTIFUL PLANTS!!
thanks for the picture!!!

Lol, yes, was planning on keeping them short, standard ScroG. But I didn't want to start flowering until I got back from Bonnaroo, which resulted in them getting an extra six weeks of veg time. Then when I put them into 12/12, KABOOM, they tripled in size. It's like a compressed jungle in there now, freaks me out whenever I look. Fortunately, they seem to have stopped growing, and just in time, since the light's about as high as it can go. I did have to tie the two tallest stalks over as they did get too close to the light.
As for yield, I'm not really worried about it. I mean, I don't sell anything, so I'll be happy with whatever that jungle from hell produces. ;)
The tube doesn't really get too hot to touch. It does get quite warm, but I can hold my hand on it no prob. And I have a 6" fan near the light blowing on both the tube and the plants near it, which seems to work good, as there are no signs of heat stress anywhere.
Not a whole lot I can do about light penetration. I mean, yeah, I could start hacking off fan leaves left and right, but that'd divert energy from bud and trichome production, so I don't really want to do that. So, it is what it is, and I'll get what I get.
Around 39 days more 'til harvest. I'm very interested in seeing what these bushes from hell produce! ;)
