carbon in the states?

anyone in the U.S. know where to buy some carbon, that is used in the carbon filter..
i dont want a filter, i just want the carbon that comes inside...
is it the same as activated charcoal?
trying to be cheap and make my own air purifier for the smell..

just get a bag of BBQ brickettes that is the same stuff crush it up to the size ya need

you might be abel to find some at an aqurium supply store they sometimes sell it in packages by it's self for filter systems

petco, petsmart, in the fish section. They sell them in containers that look like milk cartons.
