Anyone know some up-beat, positive music? I don't particulary care about what genre it is. I'm going through some hard times, and a lot of the music I normally listen to isn't helping.

If I understand it correctly, you're looking for some kind music that 'll cheer you up. To be honest, I think good music is almost always aimed at making you ponder, and I'm not quite sure if that can be cheering in the classical sense. However, there is - I think- a cheerful (most times in the sense of ironical defiance) mood in Cypress Hill 's songs, though it doesn't hinder it's social-political message at all. You can even try listening to (the few) good mainstream pop bands, (I'd suggest Bee Gees or The Beatles) or mainstream reggae bands like (post-Jacob Miller) Inner Circle or Big Mountain

Good positive music, in the sense of making you feel good or empowered, is personal to Your Self. The lyrics and rythmn that puts one person on top of the highest mountain could certainly put another in the lowest valley. What kind of music do you normally listen to? I have friends who listen to some of the most depressing rock/metal and they wonder why they feel the way they do ALL the time!

For me, positive music is Macka B; Bob Marley; Immortal Technique; Dead Prez; and Garnett Silk. But to a next person it could be what they least want to hear. So my question is 'what exactly are you seeking out of the music?'

Other tunes from yesteryear Smokey Robinson; Teddy Pendergrass; The Chi-Lites; The Detroit Spinners; The Commodores; The Four Tops; The Isley Brothers; The Stylistics; The Manhattans; The Temptations, Donald Byrd... I listen to those artists when yesterday seems better than today.

listen to the band Staple seriously. They are a hard rock christian band that uses no swearing and plenty of up-beat but furious lyrics. Get the album "of truth and reconciliation" listen to the song called best of times. THEY ARE GREAT!

Bluntman be right when he said 'psychedelic' music. The Dead are a sure-fire way to crack a smile.

I also must recommend Perpetual Groove. You have to listen to them. They are in a genre all by themselves. Every song just makes you feel good inside, like you're smiling all the time. They have the most intense jams I've ever heard, too. Give 'em a try. ~

I think I finally chose the most uplifting Perpetual Groove song, but really, they're all positive.

Try and download "Robot Waltz" by these guys. I kid you not, the intro alone with a lone guitar and piano whisk me away every time I hear it. Really brightens up my day! ~
