For right now I've been putting it outside during the day as its been very very sunny here in MN as of late, but then I switch it inside later on. I'm using a 40 watt bulb that puts out around 2500 lumens, and I've been really excited watching the new plants progress!

My question is, how far away is safe, or need I should say for this to turn out? I've read 1-2 inches and I've seen others mentioning that it shouldn't be as close in the early stages. Obviously later on if they are to touch the light then I'd have problems... but I'm not there yet

Here are some pictures of the light and how far along the plant is....

Im not honestly sure, but it really isn't that hot you can put your hand underneath it and it isn't very warm at all.

Most flourescents (if that is one im pretty sure) are cool bulbs and wont get too hot. If you are going to keep it inside yr gonna need a better light wonts its not a seedling anymore. If your keeping it outside the constant change from in to out can cause unwanted stress.

The light should be as close as it can get without huriting the back of your hand when you put it at the plants height. (about 1-3 inches)

Yes indeed its flourescent. I wish I had more money than 20c to my name or I'd try it... maybe when I take out my loans for Uni. next semester I'll grab a few hundred more and invest for the future :)
If the seed grows at all I'm happy, considering its bag seed I wasn't expecting much from it in the first place. Though I was reading about people using bulbs from Walmart that were reasonably cheap so maybe that'll be an option in a week or two?

I lived in NM great part of the country.

You need to have a fan gently moving the air around it will strength the stock and you should be exchanging the air on the underside of the leafs for a healthy grow.

what i meant by temp...the color temp...you are using a cool right?...kinda look soft to me...

As far as the cool or soft Iâ??m not honestly even sure.... I don't have the packaging anymore, looking on-line at the lights maker doesnâ??t state it either... it a 40 watt mini, made by http://www.feit.com/ I can't even find it on google even, but the thing is the 30w bulb is equvialent to 125w bulb so what I have would be even more if that makes a differance

As of right now I have the plant inside of an old hamper that is painted completely in a dull light, with the light source hanging above the plant 1.5 " away.... I figure I could just cut out a side of the hamper and add a fan right through the back of that. Its made a lot of progress over night and started opening up more along with getting taller.

Iâ??m going to go look around town and see if I can't find at least a 250w HPS, other wise I'm just going to have to get more of the highest lumen floorâ??s I can get I figure...

The one I have now is about the equvialent of 150w even though it only runs at 40w and it cost about 10$.... I was going to go look at the local fleet farm and see what they have there

FLEET FARM ?

HAHA, well in Minnesota we have them of course, they're geared twoards farming people, out door sports, sinks lumber like that.

They had a 300 watt halogen hanging light system for under 20$, other wise I saw some standard lightbulbs at walmart that were 72c for 4 bulbs each had a little under 1800 lumens in them and I was thinking if I setup multiple bulbs like that it could do the trick...

Dont get any halogens or incandescent lights (standard light bulbs).

I'd like to create some FAQ's once I actually know what I'm doing with my things, there isn't a lot dealing with lights, other than people say I have this and I got it here, it cost this much. I spent an hour last night browsing through all the back pages of these fourms for anyting that dealt with growth via fluorescent lights.

Ok that is fine but only a moderator can post there so do your write up and as long as the information is accurate and to the point then sure we need lots more FAQ's. It's a new section I started this year.

Did you see this in the indoor section?

Well slap me in the face! I'm sitting here watching Click on my xbox, (there is a great TS out on the internet right now FYI) and I'm browsing the forums and I JUST SAW THAT THREAD you linked me to and I was coming here to post about it and low and behold.

But if I get the chance I would love. The dumb mistake I made was thinking when everyone said to use the FAQ, I looked right to the "Grow FAQs" I never realized/saw the FAQ in the indoor growing thread.

But I've typed too much as it is, peace.

that thread is still growing and when BobBong is finished he will make it a sticky.
