cola question

I was wondering if anybody could go into detail as how to get clones with only one big cola and not a bunch of little buds. I dont really have a lot of space and seems like the best way to go but I was wondering if it would be worth it since I only have a 100 watt hps. Its in a cool tube though that is warm to the touch so i think i could get it within a couple inches of them.

JUST GROW A CLONE TO MATURE SIZE,, TRIM HER UP AS SHE GROWS,, WITH NO SATELITE SHOOTS. YOU WILL HAVE A TALL SKINNY COLA PLANT.

hey haze... as long as you keep the light as close as possible without burning the leaves you will get a BIG cola.... with only 100 watts HPS.. you better consider a short stubby indica strain (mango)...

GREAT BIG DENSE Colas rely on TIGHT nodal growth.... I would flower your plant when it has 4-6 tight nodes (on the branch of your choice, ideally this will be the main stem)

I would think that a good short strain AND LST would help you out alot. With that 100w HPS your going to want to use that light and have it cover as much of every part of the plant as possible. If you grown one single cola, it will be a bigger single like bud, BUT, if you grow out your branches, and bend to keep it low, you can make sure all parts are getting the light evenly, and your buds may not be one main cola, but you are more than likely to get a noticeably larger yield. So its a decison you have to make for what you want. I know large single cola's look fat and nice, BUT, I myself would choose 2 ounces of smaller buds than 1 ounce of a large cola. Now if you plan to grow as many as you can in a smaller space, then yeah, allowing them all to grow into one large cola would probably be best. If this is the way you choose, try harvesting the upper half and letting the lower half go a little longer for some better yield. Also, if your in a tight space, try using some reflectives like mylar...this will allow you to get more out of your HPS. Remember, HPS promotes stretching too, so you may want to consider bending and training branches, because the upper portion is going to get far more light than the lower half, especially once you reach 2 foot, and with a HPS, it won't take long. If you can afford it, add some CFL in there, 1 on all sides, or at the very least, 2 parallel to each other.

Well the strain I am going to grow is super chron so I dont really know how tall it gets. I got my idea from the indoor high yield guide by Ed Rosenthal. Theres a picture in there of a guy who has ak clones with single colas that are less than a foot tall but has them 5 per sq. foot. Also, I will be adding around 105 watts of flouros in there today so i hope that will be enough light.

You can do a little 3 by 3 foot Cea of green.
All you do is clone all the clones you need and flower them after 2 week veg.
And trim any lower buds that aren't getting enough light.
You can not do a sea of green from seeds. Only Clones.

if you can grow HEALTHY PLANTS ....then you can flower them at 4-6 nodes... and you will have beautiful dwarf plants with nice solid colas... I like your vision...

it is critical for a small plant to be healthy and have adequate food and light to produce quality colas..

I have all the requirements to grow nice healthy plants. Just had a grow not long ago of mango. Man, talk about a stinky plant though. Ed does know what hes talkin about though known. I will try to get myself a digi camera so i can make a log but there so damn expensive.

garden knowm I was wondering if you would critique this method, Im sure Im not the first one to think of it, and maybe there are some drawbacks I haven't seen, especially since I just started germinating my seeds, and its my first grow. I took these quite small peat pots, and I punched holes in the bottom along with the one that was already there, then I buried these small peat pots into a medium pot, near the surface. I plan to start my seedlings this way after germ. Do you see any problems with this method? Any advice would be appreciated.
ps I was also wondering if you have seeds that you got out of good mj does that mean the plant grown from it will be as good? or it at least has the potential to be as good right?

HI MARY,

Your planting/germinatig method sounds good.. IN the future, you should wait until your seed germinates before you putthe pellet in the 3 gallon container...

The reason is this.. you want to keep the pellet moist but you dont want to turn the soil in your pot into MUD... but you should be ok as long as you pay atention when you water...

2. are you using a soil/perlite mixture? you should be.. this prevents over watering.

3. you rseeds are probably GOOD... the reason people don't like to use bag seed is because growing MJ is, time consuming, riskiy, and can be a lot of work.. so they want to optimize their results... they can do this by purchasing seeds or clones of a variety that they are confident will produce what THEY want. That being said, bag seeds are often GREAT!!

Growing Bag seed inclued alot of luck into your grow.
They could be all hermies or just crappy genetics.
But I got a pound per plant off of my Somango bag seeds.

Yes I mixed a generous amount of perlite in, and some sand also., thanks very much for the advice. Is the 3 gallon pot the one they should end up in to finish growing?

yes.. 3 gallons is fine.. BUT if you are growing outside.. I would use nothing less than 5 gallons.... (although you can use 1 gallon or smaller if that is WHAT YOU MUST DO... but its lame) LOL
