lettuce heads and about 500 tomato plants, a beautiful operation. All were in greenhouses, about 2gal buckets filled with perlite and a dripper attached for the tomatoes. They used a string from the bucket to a wire above to support the vines. I have never seen anything like it!! The vines were about sixteen ft long, the green house produces about 50,000 pounds of tomatoes a year. What a setup! The greenhouse was as clean as your own house, they even used bumble bees to polinate the tomatoes. It was treat to see such a large hydro setup workig like a fine tuned clock.
The lettuce heads were being grown in a setup like the aeroflow design, 10ft 2in round tubes with holes cut into one side. They started the extremely small seedlings in rockwool then when they were ready they just dropped them into the holes. At one end of the tubes they had a dripper attached and it feed the nute solution through the tube for the roots. 5000 lettuce heads in a controlled hydro greenhouse, its a beautiful thing. I learned alot from my visit about hydro and hope I can use some of the knowledge for my own grows. If you ever get a chance to visit a setup like that give it a try.:D
