Thats hilarious! As for my personal tastes, I can't think of any halfway decent music thats come out in the last decade or so. I really don't listen to much of anything post-early 90's. Everything today just all sounds the same.

One caveat to all this. Most people have music tastes loosely based on their age and era. I generally like most stuff from the 70's through the early 90's but I'm also 32 years old. My parents mostly like the 50's through the 70's. Most of you kids will probably like mainly post Y2K.

I'll stop rambling. I'm high.

Well, I used to be HUGE into emo and stuff like that, Hawthorne Heights, Fall Out Boy, Panic!, The Academy Is, Senses Fail etc etc etc but now when I listen to it, I'm just like, 'Would you please shut the fuck up and stop bitching so much? Every fucking song you make is about some bitch that doesn't like you anymore PROBLY CUZ YOU WHINE SO FUCKING MUCH'

Country is the same way, its like every effing country song is about the woman who got away and how lonely and sad they are BOO-HOO! They're all the same, its like there is no depth to country songs. Then again, I don't think there is much depth to ANY of the music coming out now, but at least some of the other shit is catchy. I was brought up on country, but as soon as I, ya know, GOT A MIND OF MY OWN, I realize it just gives me a headache, literally.

Let's see....I hate deathmetal. Because I don't think that's really music, its just a couple guitar cords and some screaming thrown in. Slipknot is ALMOST like this, in my opinion, but at least they have Vermillion Part 1 and 2.

I think that's about it.

I completely agree. All the bands you named (and the thousands of similar ones) are all hung up on sounding tough, with their deep raspy vocals and ominous musical atmospheres. Tool for example sounds like Genesis or King Crimson on steroids (and hit in the head with a baseball bat).

iron maiden etc people who sing about depressing stuff and that you can hardly understand

Everything you just said about Iron Maiden is 100% wrong: the lead singer's voice is one of the clearest. So much so you can actually understand the lyrics as opposed to groups like Slipknot

Additionally, Iron Maiden does not sing about depressing stuff, IMO. They sing about things like the glory of fighting for your country from the eyes of a soldier, they sing about the internal struggle one goes through as a leader, and they recreate classic tales and poems into contemporary song. I've been listening to Maiden for 20+ years and I never feel depressed when I listen to their albums.

They put on a damn good live show, too, btw. :)

Emo, on the other hand...If you replaced "Iron Maiden" with "Emo", I'd totally agree with you.

Emo sucks the shit out of a dead racoon's ass.

Tool is the shit. They're modern day Pink Floyd. I don't see how they sound the same, they've got one of the more unique sounds out there. System of a down is also pretty unique sounding.

I don't care whether or not you like death metal, I'm just saying that a lot of people have little to no understanding of it and just because of it's brutality they make a judgement about it which is completely incorrect. Not to mention, most people who say they hate/dislike death metal have never heard it in the first place.

and yes death metal is one of the most complex of all music.a very high technical level is required to play it by all musicians of the band to be a 'good' death metal band.

So much ignorance about music, Lemme tell you something, If it wasnt for Metal my fuckin ass would be in jail. Or they base their opinion on listening to bands like slipknot....I completly agree, Death Metal has got to be one of the hardest genres of music to play well....imo! Just because of the extreme technicality and speed of the songs...

(yeah slipknot it's Nu-Metal....not that it really smatters....you either listen to it or not)

I wouldn't go as far to say I hate any music...but I really dislike really "scene" shit....especially rap, like 50 cent, lil Jon....not into that at all.

my brother listens to it all the time, bands like in flames, trivium, falkenbach, as i lay dying, dark tranquility, amon amarth, and etc, and i basically hate it all. the drumming i like cause its so intense, but screaming into the mic hardly constitutes as lyrics. and to me, alot of times the guitar work is more like who can make it sound like they are really skilled as opposed to who can play something that sounds good.

i hate death metal/grindcore/etc, country, and most of mainstream rap.

Interesting magazine. There's an independant bookshop around the corner (a rarity these days, I know), and I'll pick up an issue.

I'm not really on board with the anarchy thing. Governments should still be in place with only the slightest of regulatory powers. Countries such as Afghanistan and Somalia are good examples of why anarchy isn't a viable form of society.

It is refreshing to meet people who are willing to discard the current, corrupt political systems, as opposed to those who want to keep the system, but insist it is fixable: It's broken because it is corrupt. therefore, it must be eliminated and a country's political system needs to be created anew.

It seems like it's been a while since there have been any really, really good bands/ singers/musicians out there. What do I mean by that? Ok, sure, there are some fantasic guitar players and there's a lot of catchy tunes but not since the late 60's/ early 70's have there been any bands that will be able to stand the test of time. It just seems like now-a-days bands are more interested in making a catchy tune that will get them a quick buck than writing really good music.

Think about it. The Beatles broke up more than 35years ago, Pink Floyd made Dark Side of the Moon 33 years ago, and it's been 26 years since Zeppelin broke up. Not to mention all the other bands from the same period that are still immensely popular. How many of today's bands will be discussed on this board 30 years from now? My guess is, come 2036, people will still be talking about Pink Floyd but few will remember Creed, Tool, etc. If they do, it will be like I remember Shaun Cassidy and the Bay City Rollers. Haha, goofy shit from when I was a kid.

I've gotta agree with ya a bit here. For the most part, music today has too much hype and 'meaning' to it so its mostly just pop-shit. I do think a few bands will make it to the unforgettable club, but it's really hard to tell now who they may be. Nirvana would be a good example. If they has just come out now, then people wouldn't think much of smells like teen spirit, but I hear something from nirvana unplugged every day on the radio. Same goes for bands like Alica and Chains. These are bands I gre up listening to and enjoyed. When I'm 50, I'll prolly be chilling on my porch listening to Lithium. I say we enjoy what we can now and see what we still like a few years later. Those are the ones that'll allways be in your playlist somewhere throughout life.

i think people will remember tool. their music is talented, with inspired and meaningful lyrics. and red hot chili peppers will go down as one of the best bands of all time. its gonna take another 10 years to see how todays music will be judged, but i definitly agree that the quality of music has gone down. along with the quality of television, movies, and pretty much everything that is driven by money.

Just make sure every political conversation in which you get involved, you make it clear that you are a libertarian and that you vote libertarian. You don't need to win converts, you just need to raise the public's awareness about the party's existence. Those who realize the republicans and democrats are destroying the USA will seek you out for more information. Then, you proselytize.

Good luck!

BTW, on a more relevant topic, Nirvana is good and groundbraeaking, but:
a) the lyrics were disjointed and simplistic
b) Kurt couldn't play guitar
c) they are nowhere near the level of cultural/musical impact of Led Zepplin or Bob Dylan (I think Dylan sucks ass, but there is no denying that people still revere his music and myriad of mucisians quote him as a major influence in their art).

I loathe death metal. Anyone can make a song (if you can call it that) in the Death Metal genre. It all sounds the fucking same, some idiot 'playing' a guitar and another idiot in the background screaming 'DIE' and 'SATAN' randomly in a microphone.
I hate some R&B, but some of it is OK. Craig David rocks.
Dance is alright, but I have to be in the mood for it. It makes for good driving music, shortly before you crash into a wall at 120mph because for some reason, it makes you want to drive faster.
The less said about Garage/Drum and Bass/techno the better.

Mellow Marie, who is that in your avatar? They look familiar for some reason

Edit: just looked at yer Myspace page... you live in Zimbabwe? Damn thats a random place to live. Cool, but random. Oh, and the lead singer from The Vines is pretty cute! :)
