Woman Forced to Abort Fetus at Seven Months
Local family planning office carries out compulsory abortion on woman who lacked government permit to have a child
Feng Changle / Epoch Times | June 23 2006 (http://www.theepochtimes.com/news/6-6-22/43051.html)

A 25-year-old unmarried woman was seven months pregnant when staff members from the local government family planning office forcibly took her to a clinic to give her an abortion.

Wang Liping lives in a suburb of Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. She became pregnant in November 2004. Because her boyfriend could not afford a wedding, they did not get married right away. She is the oldest sibling in her family, and her parents were excited about having grandchildren. Without a marriage certificate, however, she could not receive a government permit to give birth.

At about 6 p.m. on May 31, 2005, Wang was stopped on the street by a group of people who identified themselves as staff members from the township family planning office. They forced her into their car and took her in turn to the town clinic, an air force hospital, and Tangli Clinic. All three institutions refused to abort her fetus. At about 11 p.m., they took her to Laoyachen Clinic.

Without her consent or any pre-operation tests, the staff from the family planning office and several doctors and nurses held her arms and pushed her to the ground. She screamed for help. They also beat her, stripped off her pants, and injected a syringe of drugs into her abdominal area. She was then taken to a patient room and tied to the bed.

Wang Liping said, "I was both shocked and scared, and lost all strength to fight back. My calls for help were unanswered. I could not believe such a brutal, horrid thing was happening to me."

She said that at about 3 a.m. on June 2, after violent pains, the infant was born. The infant cried for a few minutes and then became silent and motionless. At that time, no hospital staff was around to help her. Deeply fearful, she shouted for a while before a yawning nurse appeared.
The nurse asked, "What are you shouting about?"

Wang said, "Could you check on my baby?" The nurse walked over to the bed, looked at the baby, and said, "The baby is already dead." She then tossed the body aside.

Wang was so shocked by the news that she fainted. When she woke up in the morning, a doctor was standing by her bed and asked her to pay a fee to handle the baby's remains.

When Wang said that she had no money, the doctor put the body in a plastic bag, put it on her bed and said, "If you have no money, it's easy, just take the body and handle it yourself."

Wang was allowed to contact her family only after the baby had died.

When her boyfriend and relatives went to the family planning office requesting to see the regulations that authorized such a late-term abortion, the staff ousted them out of the government offices. Meanwhile, Laoyachen Clinic sent them a bill again, asking them to pay a fee for "family planning."

Wang said, "The doctors and nurses have no sense of humanity or medical ethics. The staff at the family planning office has no conscience or understanding of basic legal concepts. I am almost at the point of a nervous breakdown. Where are our most fundamental human rights?

Modern China is the only country in history that requires a government permit to have a child. How many families have suffered because of the family planning policy?"

Anguished, she said, "Since people are eating people now [see note below], I really want to kill these men-eating beasts with my own teeth!"
Note: According to articles circulating on some Chinese web sites, some restaurants cook aborted fetuses and sell them as a tonic.

China Lawyers Beaten Trying to Help Activist

Reuters | June 23 2006

BEIJING â?? Three Chinese lawyers were beaten and detained when they travelled to the coastal province of Shandong to visit an activist who opposed forced abortions who was detained earlier this month, a colleague said on Friday.

Chen Guangcheng, a 34-year-old self-taught legal expert who exposed forced abortions and sterilisations in Shandong, was taken into police custody on June 10 on a charge of damaging property and gathering a mob to disrupt traffic.

Chen had been placed under house arrest for almost 200 days last year for drawing international attention to accusations that officials in Linyi city in Shandong had been enforcing late-term abortions and other coercive family planning measures.

Lawyer Li Jinsong was detained on Thursday when he tried to visit Chen, Beijing-based activist Zeng Jinyan said.

When a second group of three lawyers travelled to Shandong, they were beaten by a group of men who emerged from an unmarked car.

The lawyers called emergency numbers hoping for help, but instead the police took them in for questioning, Zeng said.

"Strangely, the police used all kinds of reasons to detain the three beaten lawyers at the local police station and would not let them leave," Zeng said in an e-mail.

Chen's case has drawn international attention to China's one-child policy, introduced in the early 1980s to curb its population, bolstering a traditional preference for baby boys and drawing criticism from rights groups.

Earlier this week, lawyers and civil rights activists were forced to cancel a news conference seeking Chen's release, under pressure from authorities.

In a separate case, a Shanghai activist has been forcibly admitted to a mental hospital following attempts to petition the government in Beijing over evictions to make way for urban redevelopment, New York-based Human Rights in China said.

Liu Xinjuan had been admitted to a branch of Shanghai's Jiangchuan Diduan Hospital for psychiatric treatment, the fifth time in three years she had been forced into a mental hospital, the watchdog group said.

China has a history of using psychiatric hospitals to "re-educate" political dissidents, the United Nations and activists say.

Nor did the girlfriend of my wife's cousin, yes girlfriend they weren't married. DOUBLE GASP!! Nor did any other of the many Chinese citizens with children that I personally know.

That's because the Epoch Times is connected to the Falun Gong, a weird religious-political cult from China, that I have seen in the streets of New York City many times.

Huh, I didn't notice that at first. Now wonder. Hardly unbiased reporting. Falun Gong is definitely a cult. I see them every time I go up to the Chinese consulate in San Francisco. They've got their little table set up out front with all their handouts that nobody pays attention to. China bashers love to use them as the poster child for China's oppression of religion. Maybe if we "oppressed" these "religions" the way China does there wouldn't have been a Kool-Aid party down in Guyana that killed 914 people.

Whether or not pissy's little story is true or not there is are two sentences buried in the story that should be noticed

They forced her into their car and took her in turn to the town clinic, an air force hospital, and Tangli Clinic. All three institutions refused to abort her fetus.

Amazing how in a country that does this so routinely, it took so long to find a clinic willing to do it. I'd expect pissy's next story to be one about Chinese tanks rolling into town to destry the rougue clinics

Read a little more about their agendas - they makes the communists look like pillars of freedom and democracy. The type of group religious insanity Falun Gong is practicing is worse, in many ways, than a secular dictatorship such as the one in China.

I see these people in NYC. In their street theatre, they wear theatrical blood, pose in little cages, and otherwise make themselves out to be great martyrs for (mostly) tourists that they think will believe the stories in their rag, the Epoch Times. They play on myths, lies and exaggerations. Their belief system is completely irrational, and totally negates any possibility of taking anything they say seriously.

I guess that you believe everything you read. The Chinese, as a people, LOVE children. Why else would they have so many? The more progressive among them realize that it is better to REWARD those that have one child per couple, as a means of cutting down on poverty and hardship. They are not, as far as we know, doing what the Falun Gong paper says.

The Falun Gong, a completly crazy religious political cult, is responsible for spreading the lies in their paper, Epoch Times, which I have been given in the street many times, in New York City.

P.S. the big letters and colors do not compensate for the content of your posting(s).

Come out of your little shell and see the REAL world - beyond your computer's screen. You act outraged and shocked about things that are make-believe. Those of us in a position to know better are just shaking our heads.

The women should be arrested?!?!?! Which women would that be? And ya China really has to work on their human rights problems. Starting with getting rid of all that internet censorship.

Great post??? Ya gotta be kidding me. Given the source, he might as well have posted something about the barbaric treatment hobbits get when travelling in Mordor. Seriously, the information coming from the Falun Gong is no more, if not less, reliable than the information coming from Saddam Hussien's Minister of Information in the first few days of the war in Iraq. In other words, FICTION

In all fairness, it is possible the story is true. There are a lot of isolated back-water villages in China that are still run by Boss Hog-type corrupt officials. These guys keep their position by using fear to control the people in their area and often this is done by extreme exaggeration and enforcement of the laws set forth by the Communist Party. Life in these areas is much the same today as is was back in Mao's day and the areas are so isolated that the people there don't know any difference.

What is important is that this is not the official policy set forth by the Chinese government in Beijing. This (assuming it is true) is a random incident that is more than a year old. Something like this would never happen in the morelarger, more modern cities.

Bottom line, if you dig hard enough you can find horror stories from every country in the world, including the U.S. And, if you only report those horror stories you can paint a very unfavorable portrait of that country. I'm sure if pissy tried he could do the same for the U.S.. Oh, wait, silly me, he already does.
