Hey, Im planning on building a 5'6"H X 2'6"W X 2'4"L Grow box, im gonna use a 400W HPS light with a Sylvania bulb. Im planning on getting these and having one for active intake/blowing on plants and 1 for cooling the heat from the light.

Nope
You should use an air mover with a reating of several hundred cfm.
Try to locate a dayton or vortex blower.
Those only put out at most in the low 50 cfm at most. It may work in a small grow area for fresh air in but not an active exhause.

Hit a Walmart or some mega-hardware store...$5-10 desk or personal fans move tons of air, are small enough to hang, clamp, shove, anywhere ya want. That and they're plug n play. No need to wire anything.
I have a fan directly under my two 150 hps lamps, upside down to pull the hot air down before it rises up and reaches the plant, directly under that fan is another at a 90 degree angle (facing rightside up and pulling on the air that the other is blowing down blowing it out away from the closet.
The lamps are hella close to the plants...with how the fans are arranged, the leaves bask in the light less than 10'' from the lamps. No burn..not even a lil singe.
You want added peace of mind...get some air duct flex tubing and aim it tween your plants and lights. With that set up, the temps I see never go above 80 degrees. Usually tween 74-78 degrees.
It's rigged to all hell my closet grow is...but damned if it doesn't work like a charm!

thats gonna be a proper hot box witha 400hps
my extractor fuked up last night (faulty timer)
i still had a 95m3h inlet fan and a 12" ocilator goin but temp was 46c this morning
to keep my tent @ 26c i need a 590m3h on constant + inlet + circulator with the 600 hps my grow tent has 3-4m3 of airspace

IIRC, you want a fan with CFM (cubic feet per minute) of three times the cubic feet of your grow cabinet.
Your cabinet's cubic feet are around 31 feet.
Therefore, 3*31=93 CFM should be the minimum rating of your exhaust fan.
Look into getting a squirrel cage fan with 100+ CFM. They are powerful and fairly compact. Durable, too.
You can also lookinto getting a hurricane fan as well, but I don't have any experience with those.

k thanks for the help, ill look into that, yea im tryin to stay away from dayton/vortex blowers due to funding (funny how ill spend 200$ on weed like its nothing though..) I know it'd prob be worth it, but im tryin to find alternatives. Its 5" across, its old but seems to blow pretty good. ill post a pic or 2 once my shitty ebay webcam comes in the mail:D

I guess what im wondering if its worth the extra $15 to get the 265 cfm over the 180 cfm, and is it really a big difference? Im thinking of maybe going for the 265 just in case i do bigger grow in the future, also do you think the noise factor would be a big diff between these 2 models?

Those inline fans dont look to bad keep the hose run as short as posible and they would work for you.
Now how about an exhaust for the whole grow room?

So in 3mo. I am planning on building about the same setup as Mrgreenfingaz with a 400w hps also and I was planning on using a fan from walmart as my air mover inside my grow room, what type of fans(s) would U recommend for an exhaust? I also plan on having a fan mounted across from my light blowing all heat away and out my exhaust.
I have 2 sprouts, 2- 2week old plants and 1 4week old going right now. I have the 2 sprouts under 2-100w sun cfl's, and the other 3 under my 150 hps on 18/6. Should my sprouts grow good at 18/6?

dude, look at the links i put up..
So Zandor do you think the 240cfm duct-fan would be sufficient for a carbonfilter/exhaust? They say you can wire it to plug into the wall also.
Zandor

I say it's the minimum you could use. You should have a sealed open space between the out of the fans and the carbon filter. Or you don't get the full benefit of having the carbon; you only get that one small area and not the whole filter. Does that make since?

I think i get what your saying, do you mean something like the first pic, ill show u my other ideas i got. Do you think the cooltube idea would wourk with the fan?

I will find a way to draw it out for you and put it up later. it won't be an autocad drawing my computer has crashed but I will find a way.

I bought that exact fan. I hooked it up to home made cooltube and it was awesome. I used to be that putting my hand 4in under the bulb was uncomfortable, let alone constantly burning the tops of my plants. Now I can keep the cooltube about and inch or so away from the tops and there is no heat whatsoever. I have a 400w hps running the horilux eye bulb, but yeah those fans are a good buy imo:thumbsup: . As far as an exhaust fans for the cab go, if you are really tight on cash you can pick up a bathroom exhaust fan at Home Depot for about 15 bucks. i think they are rated at 80cfm. The only thing about those is you might have to spend a little extra time to sound proof some of it since i think those are noisy, but that all depends on how stealthy you are wanting your cab to be. Just my 2 cents. Good luck! -Diz:rasta:

K that would be dec Zandor :rasta:, also do you think that if i got a 420 CFM fan my third idea would work? just curious, urs is prob better.
Yo thanks for the help jdzz, thats good shit to know, ill look into a bathroom fan, but do u think itd be enough to pull air through a carbon filter though?

boo yea

That depends on how big you make your filter. It can be as small as a gallon jug or as large as a laundry basket. It just all depends on your needs. If you are concerned about the fans power, then just make the filter smaller and change the carbon more often. Good luck- Diz:rasta:

alright thanks man, HAS ANYONE OUT THERE EVER DONE MY 3RD IDEA?? Any other ventilation links would be dec too, im thinking of doin my cool tube/carbonfilter/exhaust, to save money and i dont wanna have to fuck around with having an intake/outake just specifically for the cooltube, then another for the air circulation. If i cant do this ill prob just make a homemade reflector and have a regular intake/outake. anywayz thanks for the help so far doggs.
