Well im 19 years of age, and i smoke weed. Ive been smoking since i was 15 and i love this herb. Im currently going to community college, trying to get into a better college.

My question is inorder to have a sucessful life will i need to stop smoking this wonderful herb? Or Would i have to cut back?

Ive been thinking about this a lot recently just because my girl brought it up(she smokes as much as me). She says shes going to quit eventually and she knows it, for me i cant even see weed out of my life. I have my priorities straight, i work, and i goto school. Weed doesnt get in the way of either one, but at the same time im not accomplishing too much.

I used to have some careers in mind, but i decided that it wasnt for me, so right now im clueless on where im trying to be.

Another reason why im asking this is, i want to hear from some people on this board, that smoke weed and hold a normal succesful life. And i want to know if they had to lay off the herb to get to where they are right now or cutback or whatever you did.

All the people i know that smoke and living comfortably are Artists/Celebrities, because i only know of people my age that smoke and the people that are older than me that smoke, are not doing so well. One makes pizzas another is a mom that doesnt have it together...so i guess you can see why i need to hear from others...specially people from this board...by the way my smoking habit is pretty much a daily thing...2-3 times a day 1-2 gs a day

Thanks people

Hey, Oreo. I don't know if I can be much help or not because I probably don't truly qualify as a regular smoker. I'm more of an occasional toker, and I realized after reading several other posts describing the qualities of highs that, on the occasions I do smoke, I don't even do it to the point of being high. Just three or four puffs to the point of a light buzz.

I'm in my mid-40s and hold a professional job and have grownup responsibilities. A husband. A son. A cancer-patient sister who lives with us (and was the original reason I got into the weed scene a couple of months back). Pets. A house that needs running. A job that requires my mind to be sharp. In another seven weeks, I'm going to be returning to school to study medicine.

With all that going on, I have found that I can't handle anything more than an occasional few puffs. And for me, even those few puffs seem to take away my drive to get anything accomplished and diminish my otherwise sharp mental capacity.

This is not the case with everyone. There seem to be plenty of others who get done what they need to do and remain motivated and alert and sharp. But I'm not one of them. So, alas, I find that even light smoking works against me. I generally like the way it makes me feel, at least initially, but I know it's not going to be something I can continue along with the other things I want to accomplish in my life.

That being said, I fully intend to remain a strong advocate for its medical use, its decriminalization, and its legalization. Grass does far less damage than alcohol when used recreationally, and for many thousands of sick people, it is the only thing that works when other medicines do not.

lol, quit using that bold all the time Jay. I need sunglasses to read your posts!

Oreo, I also am a 19 year youngin', and I feel ya.

I'm majoring in graphic design, and at this point, I too am unsure exactly what type of job I want in that field. There are sooo many options it's insane. I do know that I am in the right field for me, so that's all that matters at this point.

You kind of have most of your problems figured out though man, from what I read. You said all your priorities are straight, and that weed doesn't interfere, so where's the need to quit? And don't let it be b/c of your girl. Serious.

If you're unsure about what kind of career you want, don't worry man, there are plenty others just like you that don't even smoke weed and are going through the same thing. So you're lucky that you at least get to blaze up and relax after a day of worrying about your future. Truth is, there is something out there for you, but it might take time to find. Don't get discouraged, and you'll find it. Go to some local career fairs or just cruise the net seeing what you can dig up. There are quite a bit of those tests online that sort of point you in the right direction based on your personality and likes/dislikes. I just wouldn't jump to any hasty decisions like quitting smoking when you know deep down that won't help you find a career. Hope all works out for you.

One love.

Thank YOU, Jay. You'll see I wrote you back over on the Trudeau thread. I meant absolutely no offense to you in any way there. I just loathe that charlatan Trudeau.

Toke on Oreo!!! My friends and I are successful, middle-aged folks who have started businesses, raised families and generally contributed to society in a positive way. Oh yeah, we all toke too! Use good judgement and moderation and you'll be fine.

Hey, I'm 20 years of age, so obviously I don't have many years of experience under my belt, but I have had only one job and I've had it for four years, I am a car salesman/dealer and I have been smoking at least six days a week for two years, I have actually seen positive influences from my habitual herb use, it allows me to think and observe my surrounding world a little clearer at times, I've occasionally used meditation to my advantage, but becoming successful really just depends on one thing, "self determination" and how bad you want it. As I said before, smoking has actually improved my life, in a wierd way, it has actually allowed me to become who I wanted to be. When I was 17, I was somewhat depressed, I was always worried about minute things and had a stress issue, I no longer suffer from a single one. Maybe that was just part of being 17, but I do feel that smoking pot should have no negative influences on you capturing your dreams, just keep your focus, and don't allow the general stereotyping to affect your beliefs.

Although this is just me, it also depends on what career you may have in your future, but as I have said, if used in the right manner, smoking herb will possibly help you to be successfull and allow you to become who you really want to be, it just depends on how bad you want it.

So, toke on!

I'm kind of in the same boat as the owl. I smoke reguarly, for the most part and am currently 30 yrs old. With a highschool eduation and 3 years of college I've managed to land a corporate job, get married, relocate, and have a damn good quality of life. It's all about your attitude. If all you aspire to be is a 'stoner', then that's where your life will lead. But if you set goals for yourself and focus on those goals, you can achieve that and more while managing your herb smoking. The bottom line of life, IMO, you get out of it what you put into it...

There is no reason why cannabis will hinder your success unless you let it.

Quitting weed won't necesarrily make you successful. Just use good judgement in your decisions.

Nah my girl isnt making me quit, and she knows she cant stop me. And i do have my priorities straight...i just dont have any goals set...and its hard to set some when i have no clue where im going...im out-going but so unmotivated at the same time...u guys get that? i love doing shit, i love being productive, but if i dont know what im doing or know where im going...i have nooooo motivation

i just dont want to be a late bloomer when it comes to sucess, i want to be succesful when im 25..the youngest. Success in my eyes is my own place, career i enjoy, and car(doesnt have to be a great car) and i dont want to live paycheck to paycheck

Why stop smoking? You need that time to reflect and relax.
Do your research and look at all the successful people out
there that use cannabis.

Sorry,my bad I did not read it...

My advice is to find sumthing you like to do for a living, very hard to do,seems luck plays a big part...

I quit school for 2 reasons or,,,as a result of dysfunctional family and I was incorrigible "I like that word"... I am very mechanically inclined and had no problem adapting it to my life situation... find sumthing u like...

A little life experience I encountered:::

I was the Plumber for an apartment complex... I was under the sink of an elderly lady in here 90's and it was brutally Hot like topping 100 and humid... I was sweating my balls off when the elderly Lady asked me "Do you like your job",,, I replied No... The Elderly lady then pointed and shook her finger at me and said "It's The Life You Chose" then she walk away... I was Dumbfounded for a bit then realized her wisdom...

I feel you on that one skink

life is what you make of it

unfortunately I suck at taking my own advice

there are many people out there that are bigger potheads than we could ever imagine and still lead highly successful lives

its all about taking opportunities

and keeping your head on straight

the way things sound

you have nothing to worry about

just go with the flow

Alot of it has to do with moderation. If you don't perform aswell or aren't as motivated at work/school when your high then it's best to wait till the end of the day or for the weekend and use it as a reward for your hard days/weeks work.

For me anyways I have found that it takes away some of my hunger, drive and ability to focus clearly on my personal and proffesional goals and seeing those goals through. So for me anyway I wait till nightime and sometimes I go a few days without but there are more important things than weed and if it is holding you back by all means take a break and moderate.

i just have no clue where im going...or what career im gonna end up in, i guess thats the main fear, cause when it boils down to it, i can cut back when i have a serious job, or just when i have to get serious. Getting there is what i need to figure out

Well dude, first off, to find out what you want to do with the rest of your life, what kind of stuff do you like to do?

Are you a sports guy, enjoy video games, stare at trees all day, what?

Start there, then go up and I bet you'll find a career doing something you love to do. Find that AND good money and you're set.

watch the movie "Waiting" its hilarious and a great statement about life

Im not going to give you the follow your dreams pap but I will say this: dont get stuck in a rut

too many people live tolerable lives, like purgatory theres nothing great about their life its the easy way to live but they are too afraid to make a big change towards what they really want

as long as youre getting high in your own free time and not blowing off anything for it no problem, an hour before bed is my favorite time
