Hello Everyone,

Im new to the boards here while not new to the scene.

Im looking to do my first hydro grow. I would like to know if anyone could recommend a excellent set up for me. I would like to purchase everything already put together rather than assemble it myself. It may appear that im being lazy but id rather spend the money and get it build correct the first time(im not much of a builder). I have around $500 to work with. In your recommendation I would like a complete set up including a grow box. I only plan to have 4 plants maximum at anytime. I also want to go with a 600w HPS light as well. I would like this setup to include exhaust fans, carbon scrubber, and anything else needed.

This setup will be going into a closest which really dont have a exhaust to the outside of the house but I can make it work. There is a small door inside the closest that leads directly to the roof line so i can run something out there if need be.

Thanks in advance for all your help. I looked around the search function as well and couldnt seem to find the full setup already complete that I was looking for. Id rather have it all together and know im not missing any peices.

Well, that is going to be tough.

Nearly impossible if you don't want to build it yourself.

So do you already own the light and buckets or anything at all? or is this just from scratch?

Everything will be from scratch. If it goes a little over $500 that is ok. Im only going with 2 to 4 plants maximum so nothing big.

Is this a pretty decent kit? I notice it doesnt have the grow box with it.

500-600 bucks is very little to do what you want. even though you said you couldn't build; FYI, the kit you are looking at is a simple system, can be built for around 100 bucks. If you can buy a 3.5"holesaw and drill 6 holes in the top of a tub...you can purchase everything in the picture
for around 100 bucks, and you don't necessarily need the water pump, it is a little better , especially if you are experienced , but you don't need it! That's all they did...Drilled 6 holes, and threw together a little nutrient package, and some mushroom powder or whatever

If you can buy some panda plastic, and screw screws into 1"x2"s you can easily make a box, but, you must have good ventilation, if this is going to be enclosed. You have to have a way to keep the heat and humidity inside the box low enough for your plants to grow. That is where the big expense comes from (aside from growlights, they're not cheap either). Good quality Fans are rather expensive.
Goodluck

Do you think that is a pretty good setup or could you recommend better?

How much would a 2 to 4 plant system go for with a 600w HPS light system? I thought I was in the right ball park in price but I take it im wrong. I dont mind spending a little extra to get a good setup.

After looking at that setup it does look pretty simple to make. Would that setup require putting it in a grow box with ventilation or could you grow as it is in a closet?

Sorry im not sure how to edit my last post but I did find a upgrade to the previous kit I saw. Check out this link. Instead of the weak light system the other had, this one has a 400w HPS light. https://secure.irie.tc/stealthhydro/product.php?xProd=22&xSec=2&jssCart=21c3dbb91881afa5423491cbef4746c7

a closet would be better, but you still have to vent heat or leave the door open

go look at bghydrodotcom...peruse their site...look at all the lights and all the different hydro systems

and at the link you showed they are selling a 6 month supply of nutes for 35 bucks...You could purchase GH 3-part, and that would last a year or more at the rate you want to grow.

the site I told you about is a favorite of mine and they have everything. peace

Well, now for what i would do if money was an issue and i wanted to grow 4 plants. I am assuming that you have at least a 4x4 space to flower in. I will let you find a way to veg because if you use the same space for both and you are growing for personal this will work fine and produce way more then you could smoke.

Here is what i would use and what i would expect.

600W HPS with quality hood and ventilation= $500
http://www.1000bulbs.com/products.php?cat=600-Watt-High-Pressure-Sodium
http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=HLRESS&eq=&Tp=
http://www.1000bulbs.com/products.php?cat=600-Watt-Hortilux
http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=AEFSC082&eq=&Tp=

Hydro system = 200
http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/variant.asp?catalog%5Fname=USPlastic&category%5Fname=20327&product%5Fid=26588&variant%5Fid=3827
http://www.angelsplus.com/Alita.htm (the AL 15 for 125)
Tubing and connectors are cheap and available anywhere

Air filtration and movement - $300
I would use the carbon filter fan to move air in the room as well.

http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=AEFE06&eq=&Tp=

Then you have nutes and medium and all should be good. That is the basics i think one could very successfully manage a closet grow with. I would assume that each harvest would produce at least 1lb+ if you paid attention to what was going on. Feel free to ask and I will help with what i can.

Late and Bacherlor thanks for all the help. Im going to examine all the parts you two have mentioned and see what I can put together. I guess I need to figure out exactly how much I want to throw down.

I know ive asked this before but as a cheaper alternative just in case I cant spend the money in the setup listed above .... Would this set up be ok? I can build it pretty cheap and buy the light it has seperatly. https://secure.irie.tc/stealthhydro/product.php?xProd=22&xSec=2

If I would be waisting my time with the cheaper setup please tell me. I have read alot of good comments on it and it seems to work with the space in the closet I have. I can probably build a box to put it in if neccasary so that I can add the correct fans, exhaust, and carbon scrubber. If all else fails it will at least teach me the bascis so that I can build my own high quality grow area in the future.

That has to be the easist system to build. You can build that 400$ system for 80 bucks! lol

People here can tell ya how to build great things. Just ask. If your typing on a keyboard then you can build that bubbler.

Im super high

So is the setup White Snoop recommended? :) It seems pretty easy to use for a novice and it is cheap.

keep in mind what makes it expensive. The actual grow system is cheap. The light/hood/ventilation for a small space are almost guaranteed to be necessary. You were worried about smell, so the carbon filter/fan are expensive. The system, regardless of what you use, is usually minimal cost.

Is a expensive carbon fan necessary or would a decent one work?

Im super high

Can you explain to me how to build that for $80? I was looking around for a light set up that has a 400w HPS system and they usually go for $120 and up. I can see the plastic bin but im not sure what size it is? If someone could detail this for me I would greatly appreciate it.

On a side note I saw this http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=13327 . It looks really easy to make but doesnt saw what kind of lighting you would need for one of those plants. Im just looking to grow enough tomatoes for personal use which would be 4oz or so a month. THanks in advance.
