I'm assuming you're asking about American airports but I'm not sure. If you are asking about American airports, the answer is yes, there are sometimes drug dogs there. Within the last two years, I've seen dogs at the Miami, Las Vegas, Newark, and Dallas-Fort Worth airports, walking with officers. Sometimes they're not drug dogs but explosive-sniffing dogs. The thing is, you can't be sure which type of dogs they are. And some may be able to sniff both types of contraband.
Unless the pills you're referring to are some sort of iron- or heavy-metal containing capsules, it's unlikely a metal detector would pick those up. But the see-through technologies that look at luggage and carry-ons sometimes alert airport security to pill- and capsule-shaped medicines, which then prompts them to investigate further if they become suspicious. That's why when people travel with medicines, they ought to always leave them in the prescription drug bottle they came in so it's clear that the meds have been rightfully prescribed for you.
It'd be wise not to risk taking anything even remotely illegal through an American airport. I know people do it all the time, but they're taking a dangerous risk, especially since airports fall under federal authority, which means any crimes you're charged with can end up being more severe.
