I started 6 Romulan x N.L. seeds in these JIFFY pellets 3 days ago. 1 shows some life but the other 5 might grow, might not. The tray has spots for 25 JIFFY pellets and a humidity dome that fits over it, and it fits right into the broiler of my oven. Warm from the pilot light and nice and dark. Hell, just thinking about it makes me wanna grow.
[attachment=o71422]
Last night I took 3 Martha's Triumph seeds and put 'em between wet paper towels. They are in the JIFFY tray next to the peat pellets. I can't see what's going on under the peat, and in the words of that guy looking up the barrel of Dirty Harry's .44 magnum, "I gots t'know, I gots t'know!"

Here we are, day 5. Still no activity from the other 5 JIFFY pots so I took 3 more Romulan x seeds and put them between wet paper towels. The 3 Martha's Triumph all popped. Yesterday afternoon I could see a root starting to come out of each seed, a little speck about the size of the head of a pin. This morning each one had a root about an inch long so I soaked 3 more JIFFYs and planted them. When I got home from work, I could see the tops of the seed husks starting to poke up through the peat. I didn't even try to get these because, as you can see from these pix, either my camera takes shitty close ups or I'm a shitty photographer.

Well at least I figured out how to work the camera. This is the Romulan x. Is that purple in the stem normal? Anybody know? :confused:

These 3 are Martha's. What a difference a day makes. :) These are going under the fluoros now.

i think iv heard that if your stem changes from green to purple its because there was a drastic temp change is the grow area......i dont think it will effect the plant at all......i have 2 northernlights and one of my stems is a dark purple, it looks pretty cool with the green leaves....goodluck

Using the broiler compartment of the oven for germinating seeds is a good idea. Forgetting to take the son of a bitchin' Jiffy tray and shit OUT of said compartment before you bake a pizza however, is not only a bad idea, it makes you look and feel PRETTY FUCKING STUPID! :cursing: I don't even smoke anymore so I can't use "I got stoned and I missed it" as an excuse. :mad: I swear, for someone who considers himself fairly intelligent, sometimes I seem to put the shit in DUMBSHIT. :o Not only did I bake the 5 peat pellets with the Romulan seeds that hadn't popped out yet, I pretty much poached the 3 Romulan seeds in the paper towel. Hell, I even melted the shit out of my cool little JIFFY tray. I disected 1 of the peat pellets and found that the seed had a root about half an inch long. I don't know if they were still growing, just slower than the one that already sprouted, or if something went wrong prior to this and they were already dead. I poured cold water on the paper towel to cool it off enough to pick it up then opened it up. All 3 seeds had popped open and were growing a root. 2 were just bumps but 1 was about a quarter of an inch long. Damn. I bought 12 of those seeds, planted 8, and fuckin' killed 7 of 'em. Oh well, live and learn. :)
NOTE TO SELF: Steaming does not seem to be a method of germination which is well tolerated by cannabis. This probably rules out baking, boiling, broiling, stir frying, and nukin' 'em in the microwave as well, you stupid ass. ;) LMSFAO

Well I've still got 4 little darlings that I've managed not to kill yet. 1 Rom. X N.L. which I believe is mostly indica, and 3 Martha's Triumph which the guy at the club said is a mostly sativa hybrid. I wanted to go with a mostly indica mix because I going to divide my closet into 3 chambers. 1 for cloning, 1 for the mother(s) and vegging, and the top for flowering. Since indica grows shorter, I think it'll be more managable but since I've got 3 mostly sativas, it seems 3 times more likely I'll get a female sativa than a female indica (unless I missed something in the math). Might try LST and ScrOG. Worst that could happen is I wipe out the entire crop, right? :eek: Then just try again 'til I get it right. My closet is 50" wide, 30" deep, and 96" high (it's actually 100" but I have a 3 speed, 20" box fan attached to the attic access blowing out of the closet and the fan is 4" thick).
[attachment=o72643]
I don't know how many cfm it moves but when its on high you can hear the air whistling through the inch or so gap between the floor and the bottom of the door. I also have this fan to circulate the air and simulate the breezes outside (Sort of, Perhaps, I hope.) ;)
[attachment=o72644]
The first time I tried this I had 10 of this size container and had a hell of a time trying to fit 'em in here. Plus I think 8 x 4' fluoro tubes 'aint enough for ten plants. 4 pots of this size fits well.
[attachment=o72645]
I also changed the light configuration from this:
[attachment=o72650]
to this:
[attachment=o72646]
this frame is adjustable so the outer two fixtures can be set at 90, 45, or 0 degrees relative to the inner two. Also, instead of chains, each side is suspended by nylon clothesline through an upper and lower pulley. Much easier to control. I found out (the hard way) that when adjusting the chains you gotta be ready for gravity 'cause gravity is always ready, just waiting for the chance to pull your shit down to the floor and smash your tubes, or plants, or both.

This is Rom. X N.L., 11 days since I planted it in the peat pellet:
(I don't know what the brown spots are from. They appeared after I planted the peat chingadero in the pot)
[attachment=o72655]
These are Martha's, 8 days after putting them in a wet paper towel:
[attachment=o72657] [attachment=o72658] [attachment=o72659]
I had to put the cardboard in the pot because my auto focusing camera kept focusing perfectly on the surface of the soil and leaving the plant out of focus. There is probably a way to manually focus the damn thing but this seems to work. The people at CANNON would think "what a retard" but.... never mind, that's for a different forum. ;)

If anyone's checking it out, here's day 13 since I started this grow. It's a learning experience just like life. And since no posts in this thread have been deleted (yet), I guess I'm not being too big a pain in the ass. And if my screw-ups make someone laugh, so much the better. :D
Here's the lone Romulan cross 13 days old. I don't know what the yellow patches are on the bottom leaves. They appeared the morning after I planted the peat chingadero in the Ocean Forest soil. Maybe it was a bit too rich of a first meal. :confused: It's not on any other leaves so I won't worry.
[attachment=o73222]
These 3 are 3 days younger but they're the same size. In fact 1 is even taller. Maybe more sativa in this strain. The white spots are from water that splashed when I watered. Are water spots a problem, should I wipe off the leaves next time, or is this a stupid question? Anybody know?

[attachment=o73672] This is the Rom. x N.L.
[attachment=o73673][attachment=o73674][attachment=o73675] And these are Martha's Triumph.
I think I'll start posting updates once a week instead of like every day. Thanks to all for letting me realize this on my own. :o I reminded myself of the guy at work with his first kid and the pictures. ;)

I don't know if the discoloration shows in this picture but it wasn't there the last time I took pictures. It's only on the Romulan. I haven't given any of them anything but water. It's tap water, but I fill a 5 gal. bucket and let it stand for 3 days so the chlorine disipates. I use this to water the pots and in the sprayer that I use for misting.
[attachment=o74423]
I don't do anything different with these 3 and there's no yellow. These are 3 days younger though. Maybe I should start feeding them something. Anybody got any good ideas? But not Miracle Grow, it's pretty and blue and all, but I just don't think I'll use it for this. Maybe in the flower beds or something.

E Man. Lookn good bro .Cant belive barley no one has posted on this thread.But hey its cool no one post anything on my threads either lol.Could the yellow be where water has set ony the leaves and dried up?
yeah, don't worry about the yellow (yet) if it gets worse check around, but it looks like "wear-and-tear" spots to me.
My thread is being "watched" a lot too, so hopefully by the time we have fat buds I'm sure everyone will chime in.

Well I decided that the plants on either end of the garden were too tall so I topped 'em night before last. The next morning, the lower growth just exploded and the Romulan had grown up into the light. Now that it's done, I think I should have waited a couple more days and cut above the next lowest node. Would have given me a bit longer cutting to root.

These two had a growth spurt too, almost like they were connected. Different pots, roots or leaves don't touch, but these plants definately had some kind of reaction. Circle of Life? The Force? Beats me.

This plant is handicapped or something. The stem is twisting around all by itself.
[attachment=o76368][attachment=o76369][attachment=o76370][attachment=o76371]
This top node has 2 branches on one side and 2 on the other. It's like one side of the main stem is growing faster than the other. Maybe it's LSTing itself:what:
E Man
07-18-2006, 08:24 AM
Look at difference between these 2 plants. They're the same strain and age. The top growth tip on the left one is twisting or something. The leaves aren't growing like the one on the right. Not symmetric.
[attachment=o76397][attachment=o76398]
Here's the stem of the one that's not doing funny shit. Compare it to the previous post and see wacha think :eek:

E-man...plants looking good bro! I've never seen that twisting effect though. When you say you topped the plant, do you mean cut it with a razor blade or just pinch it off? Keep up the good work!

Rooster,
I used a blade on the ones that I topped but that wasn't even one of them. Pretty weird, it's like I cut one and the other one felt it. Reminds me of that old Cheech & Chong movie "The Corsican Brothers". Thanks for checking it out.
BTW, what are you guys using for reflectivity in your cabinet?

Thanks Ithg,
The two that I topped were 30 days since being planted. They had 5 nodes and the growing tip. I cut just above the 4th node and tried to plant them but they died before they got roots. If I was doing it again I would wait 3 or 4 more days or until there were 6 nodes and then cut at the 4th node.
