Odor Question

Hey, I'm new to growing and am growing two plants in an enclosed area. They are very young (5 days), I am wondering how strong they will be when they are flowering and what to expect? What precautions do I need to take? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks....

You need a carbon Scrubber.
Or everyone who comes in your house will smell it.

image reaper has these cfl bulbs that take out odor. i don't have one myself but i am interested. he said they give off 167 F heat on surface? idk what thats means but i'm trying to find out how much heat it would give off. it seems like a good investment till i get a filter.

It's a canister filled with carbon filters.Odor is a particle.It can be caught in a manner than it would be displaced or removed odorless! Much like what charcol does for moisture.It removes it from the grow room and traps it.I'll tell ya a simple way to remove moisture.Build a small can out of sheet metal or use a five gallon bucket.Fill it with KINGSFORD charcol,to the top! Cut a 4 inch hole in the bottom before ya fill it.Cut the same in the top.Attach 4 inch dryer flex to it on both end put a fan drawing not blowing,and vent to underneath the house.Change the charcol twice a month.Moisture will make charcol mold and mildew.No worrys bout mold if ya change it.

Activated Charcoal

Definition
Activated charcoal or activated carbon is an amorphous form of carbon. This means that it has no regular atomic structure, unlike the other forms (allotropes) of elemental carbon: diamond, graphite, fullerenes or nanotubes.
Activated charcoal differs from the familiar charcoal that is used in barbecue grills. Common charcoal contains other organic residues, is much less porous, and has a lower surface area.

Trade names for activated carbon include Norit and Ultracarbon.

Charcoal is obtained by burning wood, nutshells, coconut husks, animal bones, and/or other carbonaceous (carbon-containing) materials. Charcoal becomes activated by heating it with steam to approximately 1000 oC in the absence of oxygen (O2). This treatment removes residual non-carbon elements and produces a porous internal microstructure having an extremely high surface area. A single gram of such material can have 400 to 1,200 square meters of surface area, 98% of it internal!
The chemical nature of amorphous carbon, combined with a high surface area and porosity, makes it an ideal medium for the adsorption and absorption of organic chemicals. Adsorption means that the chemical has an interaction with the surface of the material; absorption is incorporation into a host structure through pores (interstices). To avoid confusion, we can refer to the incorporated material as "sorbed".

Activated carbon can remove organic materials from gas streams or solutions. The amount of material removed depends on the capacity of the activated carbon as well as the affinity of the material for the carbon. Typical uses are to remove odors and volatile organic compounds (VOC's).

the "activated" of activated charcoal means charcoal that has been exposed to a chemical or process like described above which increases the effective surface area by some moderate percentage.. I understand that this may be critical in efficiency ratings of expensive fish tank setups but for getting dank odor out of the air I dont think the difference will be worth the cost. *I could be wrong..

I just ordered a charcoal filter and i have a bag of kingsford sitting here.. although I would highly reccomend you dont use the "match light" or "lighterfluid not req" versions since that would be.. stupid.

I have good ole hard as hell to light plain jane charcoal and Im going to bash it up.. wash it off in the bathtub.. then refill my filter with it.. which as I understand may not last as long as "activated" charcoal but should have the same effectiveness for maybe (Im hoping) at least half the life of activated.

If so it will be my new solution to odor control.. cuz activated is expensive!!

When mine was in veg it smelled very strongly. Now into flowering, I hardly smell anything...go figure

And even more ,wait till you harvest!

I'm buying a carbon scrubber.
I already have the blower.
I'm also getting a small intake fan to replace the co2 that gets sucked out of the room all day. I'll run it threw the ac vent probably.

That Jack was the same way!Loud at first,then the more it flowered the less it smelled.I ain't at all used to that! It's for real,though!Not very pungent like that indica and aff I'm used to smokin'!But lemme tell ya! The crystals on these buds will be in great numbers 2 weeks from now! Well worth the headache! Cause now I'll have sunthin' for it!

If stealth is very important to you, you must not let people into the room where your grow is, and in that room you must use as much odor control as you can afford. I would use a big carbon scrubber with a lot of air exchange pushed or pulled through it. I do this in a closet in a room where no one is let into. In the room I have an air purifiyer during flowering. Depends on your strain, but you may need a big air purifyer.

Remember noise and light are also major stealth concerns.

You cannot grow where people will be and get away with it. You are stoned or otherwise not thinking clearly if you think otherwise. I don't care how stealthy your cabinet is. And like I told some other guy, if cousin Randy finds out, then your whole family will know. Both sides. Trust me.

ok im needing a carbon scrubber, im bout a week into flowering and was wondering whats a good place to get these? would they carry these at a local grow shop? Is it a one piece product u buy and how much do they run, i only have 3 females to cover up. thanks

yeah i saw those CFL that get rid of odor but they come in too small (wattages) so i think i will just get some activated carbon filters

Yo Opie! As they get later in flower stage,mine are 4 weeks now! And the odor is starting to increase as more flowering occurs! So to answer your question! The more this Jack Herer gets into the flowering stage.The more it will smell.It's not that overpowering! However it does have a definate smell! WEED! IN FLOWER!
