53 miles in 3 days, then I would be dead
I am thinking more on the lines of 15-20 for 2 days

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed
he was walking along the beach with the Geo Nagual.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand: one belonging
to him, and the other to the Geo Nagual.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he
questioned the Nagual about it:
"NAGUAL, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me."
The Nagual replied:
"My Blunt smoking son,
I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

I've been trying to find a break to get out to L.A. to see some old friends but would like to cooridinate my trip to coincide with your hike. I will be out there from Thursday to Sunday and although I want to see the Flaming Lips show July 27th, hanging out with you dudes will be more fun. So pick any weekend and I will try to make it. I vote for a 2 day hike as opposed to a 3.
Make it hempen Geonagual. Oh, I'll be staying in Silver Lake and will probably have a house party 1 nite so ya'll would be invited to that as well.

Yea! The end of July sounds good for me:thumbsup:
I would prefer two small a day trips
Hike Sat morning chill Sat. night around a campfire! and a short hike Sunday morning
There's a secret waterfall and wadding pools just south of me
(I'm in the Inland Empire)
In the Cleveland Nat. Forrest. Sheep Camp Creek/Boulder Creek
Julian is very close to that and has lodging/campsites
From what I understand it's about a 5 mile round trip hike and from what I've heard it's pretty spectacular!
Adventure Pass is recommended ($5)
If anyone has any other ideas post them here!
I will look at the topo's and post what hotels or campground are close and available
I love it when a plan comes together!

Should we keep it in So Cal? or move it north some.
I am thinking we want something that will be tottally isolated hike and camp. San Jacinto was good but there was alot of friggin people up there and that is not cool. So, I don't want to do a popular trail at all. Out in the boondocks. The end of July will work nice. Give me a few more days and I will find some good ones and I will run it by everyone.Peace

Anacapa Island is located 14 miles off the coast from Ventura. It is the only Channel Island to retain its American Indian name, derived from the Chumash word, "Eneepah", meaning island of deception or mirage. Ocean waves have eroded the perimeter of the island, creating steep sea cliffs towering hundreds of feet in height and exposing the volcanic origins of air pockets, lava tubes, and sea caves. At the east end of Anacapa a natural bridge has formed in the ocean. Forty-foot high Arch Rock is a trademark of Anacapa and Channel Islands National Park.
What to see: Sea birds are the most conspicuous wildlife on Anacapa. The largest breeding colony of the endangered California brown pelican is located on West Anacapa. Other sea birds include western gulls and several species of cormorants. The island's rocky shores provide resting and breeding areas for California sea lions and harbor seals. Catch a glimpse of the fascinating undersea world of the kelp forest without even getting wet. During the summer, park rangers dive into the Landing Cove on East Anacapa with a video camera. Visitors can see, through the eye of the camera, what the diver is seeing by watching video monitors on the dock. Pristine tidepools can be explored. Springtime brings colorful flowers, including the strange tree sunflower, or coreopsis, a plant found only on the Channel Islands and a few isolated areas on the mainland. Visit the museum on the island, which houses the original crystal and brass Fresnel lens from the lighthouse.
What to do: Camping, hiking, ranger-led interpretive hikes, picnicking, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, swimming, kayaking, bird watching, exploring tidepools, and getting away from the mainland city-congestion are some of the activities you can do on Anacapa Island.

Parson's Landing Campgrounds
Secluded beach camping
The Parsonâ??s Landing Campground is a secluded beach camping site located seven miles west of the village of Two Harbors. The eight primitive campsites accommodate up to six people each and are accessible only via a moderately difficult hike or kayak trip. Shade structures and running water are not provided; you must pack in your supplies.
BBQ and fire ring
Picnic Table
One bundle of firewood and 2.5 gallons of water are included in your fees. More wood and water are available by advance purchase only.
Directions to Campground
The Parsonâ??s Landing Campground is accessible via a moderately difficult seven-mile hike from Two Harbors or a two-and-a-half-mile hike from Emerald Bay . You can also kayak to the campground. It is 12$ per campsite and site holds 6 people. So, 2$ a piece. Cheap
So, we are looking at a 7 mile hike to and fro
Hike, swim, snorkel, fish
I got some other ones to. One is in the Angeles National Forest and the other in San Gabriels.
How does the 29-30th work for everyone or would you rather go during the week?

Camp at South fork camp. Start at the Buckhorn Trailhead. Camp at 6,300 ft among pine and Cedar Trees. Remote. 10 mile hike each way
Mt. Waterman and the Twin Peaks stand guard over some of the most remote country in the San Gabriel Mountains. The San Gabriel Wilderness Area here and the Sheep Mountain Wilderness Area to the east both have a large area without trails or roads, leaving them mostly undisturbed by a human presence. Both areas have significant populations of Bighorn Sheep due to this remoteness.
The countryside is magnificent here, with Mount Waterman and Twin Peaks towering 4000' above Devils Canyon to the West, 4500' above Bear Creek to the East, and 5000' above San Gabriel River Canyon to the South. Nearly the entire San Gabriels can be seen from atop those peaks. The peaks and most of the slopes below them are covered with Jeffrey and ponderosa pine, with incense cedar at Twin Peaks Saddle.

I have been researching a bunch a campsites
and this is what I have come up with
After thinking of a beach campout, I have had it stuck in my head
There are other campsites on Catalina that are still available
On is BlackJack. It is on top of the highest mountain on Catalina (around 2000 ft). It is connected to a bunch of trails. The hike is 1 1/2 miles to the campsite. Probably a 15-20 minutes to the beach.
Also, Hermit Gulch. Right by the water. There is a 2 night minimum for all campsites on Catalina. $12 per person per night.
I was also thinking San Clemente State Beach.
A great campsite on the cliffs in San Clemente, the pacific ocean 5 minue walk away. No hike to the campsite. It is like $15 for a campsite for a night. It is a big campsite, so it will be fun dancing with mush and wandering everywhere, messing with people, building a huge campfire, smoking blunts/joints and going in the ocean at night.
o
FO, would you rather go deep in the forest? I am not sure if everyone will be equipped enough.
I should have all of this done in the next couple of days. I got no comp. But no biggie, I will lock a place and it will be done. Peace

Santa Cruz Island is located about 20 miles from the mainland coast, and travel time from Ventura Harbor on one of our swift catamarans is only one hour to east Santa Cruz Island Scorpion Anchorage, or one hour and twenty minutes to Mid Santa Cruz Island Prisoners Harbor. Being the largest Channel Island, Santa Cruz is also the most diverse with interesting geological features including two mountain ranges, many canyons and a rugged shoreline. At least 600 plant species, well over 120 species of land birds including the endemic Island scrub jay, and a vast expanse of wilderness area exist for the curious to explore by land or sea. View the Santa Cruz hiking guide.
East Santa Cruz Island Scorpion Anchorage
Since this part of the park opened to the public in the late 1990â??s it has grown in popularity and is a favorite for both campers and kayakers. Hikers can enjoy a wide range of trails that travel both inland and along coastal bluffs. There is a small pier at Scorpion Anchorage, visitors step from the boat onto a ladder and climb a few rungs to the pier. The beach is a mix of sand and cobble with a small shallow kelp forest near the pier. Facilities include picnic tables both on the sun bathed beach or in the tree shaded area near the historic Scorpion Ranch buildings. There are outhouse style restroom facilities near picnic areas and in the campground.
Camping at Scorpion
Hike in camping is available on the island about 1⁄2 mile up a dirt road from the pier. A picnic table and small storage box is included in each campsite. You must contain and pack out all trash. Be prepared to secure your food and trash from island animals including, mice, foxes, skunks, ravens, gulls and feral pigs. Several outhouse style restrooms are located adjacent to the campsites. Island Packers will transport your camping gear but each packed bag must not exceed 45 pounds in weight. Water and any camping fuel should not be included in packed bags but may be carried on board for special storage. Potable water is available from a public spigot at the campground. No fires are allowed in the campground, propane/gas camp stoves are permitted. During some parts of the year (usually winter) the park ranger may allow fires on the beach in designated fire rings (dura-flame type logs only). You may not transport wood onto the island since it can introduce seeds, insects and tree diseases that can endanger unique island species, check park camping regulations for more information when making you required camping reservation. Camping reservations are required and are made directly with the National Park, for complete camping information in the Channel Islands National Park and to make a reservation go to; http://www.nps.gov/chis/camping.htm .
Watersports
Access to the water is from sand/cobble beach at Scorpion Anchorage where the beach slopes gently to about 30 feet deep inside the cove. Kayaks may be stowed onshore in the designated area (see ranger at island for more information). Water temperature ranges average from 55-65 degrees and is warmest during summer and fall. Anyone spending time in the water should dress appropriately for exposure in cold water, which includes some type of wetsuit. Please visit the watersports page for details including information on kayaking, kayak transportation and guided kayak tours, which are highly recommended. Fishing from the pier or shore within Scorpion Anchorage is not permitted because it is within the Scorpion Santa Cruz Island Marine Protected Area. Fishing outside of the Marine Protected Area is accessible by kayak or by hiking 4 miles to Smugglers Cove. For more information on the Channel Islands Marine Protected areas go to: www.dfg.ca.gov/mrd/channel_islands/index.html
Mid Santa Cruz Island Prisoners Harbor
To access Prisonersâ?? Harbor visitors must step onto a ladder from the boat and climb several ladder rungs to reach the top of the pier. There is a cobble beach with a small estuary at the eastern end that is frequented by many types of shorebirds. There are remnants of the old ranch site that was named La Playa, but the actual ranch house was demolished in the 60â??s. Picnic tables are set up near the scenic beach and also under shade trees adjacent to the beach. A single outhouse style restroom rounds out the facilities available at Prisonersâ?? Harbor.
This area is directly on the property line for the two landholders of Santa Cruz Island, The National Park, and the Nature Conservancy. There are several roads leading into the National Park property and all can be accessed for hiking. Hiking on the Nature Conservancy (TNC) side is limited to permit holders and/or guided hikes with an Island Packer naturalist. Hikers with permits are allowed only on the trail known as the TNC Prisonersâ?? to Pelican Interpretive Trail. This trail is steep and narrow in some places so you will want to pack your water, snacks and other supplies in a backpack or similar style bag. Visitors traveling with Island Packers and planning to hike on the TNC property must sign a release and waiver form in order to participate in the hike. You may download the form in advance or pick one up from an Island Packers receptionist when checking in the morning of the trip. You may hike the Del Norte trail and roads on the National Park property without this waiver. Please be aware that hikers entering the TNC property without first signing a release form are considered trespassing, and there is also no off trail hiking allowed.
Back Country Camping at Del Norte
This primitive camping area is designed for backpack style camping since it is a 3.5-mile uphill trek by trail, or 4.5 miles by road from the Prisonersâ?? Harbor pier. The isolation is well worth the hike and many adventurous campers will stay a night or two at Del Norte then backpack out over 12 miles of rugged island terrain to the Scorpion campground at east Santa Cruz Island. The backcountry hike is strenuous, and recommended for experienced hikers only. Picnic tables and a pit toilet (bring your own toilet paper) are provided at the campground; however there is no potable water available at this site. No fires are allowed in the campground, propane/gas camp stoves are permitted. You must contain and pack out all trash. Be prepared to secure your food and trash from island animals including, mice, foxes, skunks, ravens, gulls, and feral pigs. Reservations are required and are made directly with the National Park, for complete camping information in the Channel Islands National Park and to make a reservation go to; http://www.nps.gov/chis/camping.htm. Before you make your camping reservation you should secure transportation with Island Packers.
Watersports
Access to the water is from sand/cobble beach or the dingy dock at the end of the pier. The beach slopes gently to about 30 feet deep inside the harbor area. Kayaks may be stowed onshore in the designated area (see ranger or Island Packer crew member at the island for more information). Water temperature ranges on an average from 55-65 degrees and is warmest during the summer and fall. Anyone spending time in the water should dress appropriately for exposure in cold water, which includes some type of wetsuit. Please visit the watersports page for details including information on kayaking, kayak transportation and guided kayak tours, which are highly recommended. Fishing from the pier is permitted with a California ocean fishing license.
Seasonal Highlights
All year round an easy stroll to the ranch site at Prisoners Harbor at mid Santa Cruz, or a rugged hike up Scorpion Canyon on east Santa Cruz are both good locations for viewing the endemic island scrub jay.
December through March, migrating gray whales can often be observed from Cavern point on east Santa Cruz or from the coastal bluffs mid Santa Cruz as the whales pass near the island.
From about February through April the grasslands of Santa Cruz Island are green and you are likely to encounter a bloom of native wildflowers. Intensity and duration of the bloom varies a bit each year due to varied rainfall and temperature. The Prisonersâ?? to Pelican trail has some of the best wildflower displays on the island. Scorpion Canyon and the Potato Harbor trail are excellent places to see wildflowers on the eastern portion of Santa Cruz Island.
In summer through fall, the ocean conditions are usually some of the best for kayaking and snorkeling. Island endemic wildflowers including several species of buckwheat, asters, and other sunflowers bloom. During summer there is also a chance to see blue or humpback whales in the deep water during travels to and from Santa Cruz Island.

Naw, this was last year..
I just pulled it up to move it over here
I want to camp this summer on the beach
but you gotta make frigging reservations a year ahead of time
unless you dont mind San Onofre..blah
But you can always move inland!
Do a 2 day hike..
12-15 miles
The fungi would be hella fun...at a campground on some flatland on the way up a mountain. Smoking the finest herb...
This last one kind of fell through. I think we have enough So cal hikers on this board to do something fun as hell, a nice hike and camp and get stoned silly. I am up for it if someone else is. I am sure a few of my friends would be down. A good day trip too, would be a hike to a punchbowl for smoking, swimming and jumping.:pimp:

im always down for day hikes. i go hike all the time out here, weather permitting. it was warm yesterday, and it rained today and now its all cold. funky!
devils punchbowl so cal would be fun. its only a few hours hike to it, but still could be somethin.
I'd love to go for a hike this time of year, especially with the weather we've been having over here. It'd be lovely. I'm an outdoors person anytime, but good weather, lovely nature and a phat joint of smelly greens would be heaven for me.
