high all growers, i can´t afford to order perlite (the shipping its to expensive for me at the moment), around here garden centers just dont sell it (most even asked me what perlite was), my question is pretty simple can i use expanded clay insted in my soil mix????

or even better ...... what would be an ideal soil mix????

Peace and happy growing :D

composted cow manure and Pro Mix Potting soil.Perilite and Vermiculite are bad for your lungs if the given the chance to dry out can become airborne and settle on your bud and you breathe it in as well. It's fine if ya keep it damp.

walmart sells perlite for 3 bucks a bag

a nice mix I made; Available at walmart
bag schultz Orchid mix for every 1/2 bag of perlite and peatmoss...great drainage, and healthy roots. or

2 bags orchid mix...one bag peat moss...one bag of perlite.

yes, you can use expanded clay...you can also buy a bag of lava rock at walmart...take it home...wrap in it several layers of plastic...and beat the crap out of it to crumble it up. It works great! The idea is too have something porous to hold a little nutrient. Most of all to allow good drainage, and oxygen in the root area. does this answer your question?

Latewood-

So you are saying that a soil mix designed for growing orchids is also good for growing other things? Would an orchid liquid or powder fertilizer also be good for growing other things?

best,

Use Foxfarm and other MJ products.
These products were made for growing MJ.
So why waist your time with crappy soil.
Or OK soil.
Nothing beats Fox Farm.
Order it off the net.

You should use a soilless mix (Peat, verm, perlite) and use all of fox farms liquid nutes like i do. I use grow big for veg, then i use tiger bloom and big bloom for early-mid flower, and at the end i use cha ching. I supplement these with Liquid karma, and that new stuff I just started using called Sweet (big write up about it in high times this month). My buds are sugary, like someone dusted them with sugar, and fat, and very pungent smelling. I vent the air to the outside, and my house still stinks! lol. peace.
