Ok so i know you can use a green light to visit your grow room when it is in its dark period..correct? Are there any restirctions on how long the light can be on? Just for instance could it be on 24/7 and not disturb the flowering process? I dont want it on 24/7 i am just curious. Is there any certian type of bulb i need? Or just a regualar green light bulb?? thanks guys!!!:rasta:  :rasta:

sorta like in highschool when you did photo lab, they had thoughs red lights on for a while. I would think pictures would be more sensitive to any light than plants, so having it on for awhile shouldnt be a problem, but don't take my advice(making it usless, lol).

Yeah i really want to figure this one out...the more research i do, the more i find mix answers. Some say it is a rumor and other say it is true. So does a regular bulb that is green (party lights) not interupt the darkcycle?? Someone squash this for me...

FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND,, A GREEN LITE IS NOT ABSORBED BY PLANTS.

BUT,,,,, AS WITH ANY OTHER LIGHT, GREEN, RED, YELLOW, SWITCH LITE, WHATEVER,,,, IT CAN CAUSE PROBS WITH A FLOWERING PLANT. IT STILL BECOMES A LITE LEAK.

I USE MINE FOR SHORT PERIODS ONCE IN A WHILE, WITH NO ILL EFFECTS.

GOOD LUCK

If absolutely necessary you can use a green bulb for prolonged visits to your flower room after lights out...

boyz is right...green light is not absorbed by the plant.

I know you can put a green lens on your flashlight when you visit them, and it not affect growth at all. There is the moon at night if they were to be outdoors. It emits light and does'nt disturb the flowering stage!But....... It's not green, either.Good luck with that 1!!

Green spectrum is invisble to plant, so yes its ok, although i'd only have it on for 30 mins at a time.

Actually the moon doesnt emit any light what-so-ever. It is infact the sunlight being releted back.

You cannot compare indoor to outdoor.
They are totally different.
It's like trying to breed pandas in captivaty.
It is extremly difficult.

recently I visited a large grow room that was used strickly for flowering plants... the grower had a green cfl light on in the room 24/7... he claimed no ill effects... and from what I could see.. his plants looked great ... several pounds of bud in different stages of flowering ... from 1 week to 8 weeks... they all looked great...

I personally would not do it myself... unless I had too..

I couldnt' find info on why "no blacklight", but I know you are not supposed to use one...It is just wrong in so many ways...
sorry, I cannot be more specific at this time. there are lights to use and lights not to use

Why would you even want to do that.
Leave your plants alone in there dark period.
If a black light has UV's of course it won't be ok.
But a green light isn't a great idea anyway. Other then just incase.
But stay out of there while they are sleeping.
How hard is that?

ummmmmmmmmmmmmm..

THEY SELL LITTLE GREEN CFLS THAT YOU CAN USE >> THAT WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR GROW DURINHG THE DARK PERIOD

Okay here it is:
A green party light CAN AND WILL mess up your plants flowering cycle.
They are normal incandescents painted green. Some non-green light does escape.

They are fine for once in a while... but... I was an idiot once and left one on for 2 days about 2 weeks into flowering and man, did it slow the girls down.

As the Knowm says, go for the flourescents. They are designed with a much narrower wavelength range and will be much safer if you are forgetful like me and can't remember to turn a damn light off.

Here you go...thanks to cmorbud, I retrieved this from another thread; Green lights galore!
http://www.buylighting.com/subcat.asp?catid=238

However, I agree...stay out of there at night. these should just be a safety precaution incase something go's wrong and cannot wait several hours...

The plants simply do not use green light, to them it's as if it does not exist

The plants simply do not use green light, to them it's as if it does not exist

This a scientific proved false statement.

Plants use green light, although they are less sensitive to it than to other wavelenghts. Green light can stop the flowering stage, but more intensity (in micromols, not in lm) or duration of green light are required than any other wavelenght. So, if it absolutely neccesary to check something during the dark period, the best is use green light, because plants are less sensitive to it and because humans have the max sensitivity to green light.

But dont think green light is safe, it isnt. Use it at the minimun possible.
