I don't know what channels I'm supposed to go through to ask this so I'm taking a shot in the dark here.
Can I be made moderator of the Recreational forums? I love that section and I've spent most of my time on there. I'm on the computer most of the time and most of my computer time is spent on here...in Recreational...:D
I absolutely love this website and want to help out in any way I can!
Email me:

Thanks, and looking forward to being one of the volunteers,
Jake

what's the problem with not being 18? what so you haven't reached 18 yet, so you're just automaticly not to be taken seriously? i can see society's programing is in effect, even here.

I am sure if you ask the Mods, you have to be 18, he may be able to handle it , be mature, but I dont think the mods would allow it. i dunno?

you said 'Not kewl :(' like there was some problem with him being younger then 18....
 Just so you know the number of threads or posts that someone has will have nothing to do with becoming a MOD. Age does have a bit to do with it but that is not meant in a bad way. Alot of MODDING has to do with life experiances and being able to be non-judgemental. With that said I have seen a few of P.E.N posts etc and he does appear to be very mature for his age, infact I wish we had more ppl here of his age with his level of maturity.

 The ADMIN and the MODS both have a role in deciding on the new MODS. Once the MODS find a person that would suit being a MOD we then let the ADMIN know so they can allow the person or not, so its kind of a team effort......

Oh, ca'mon... we're in the cyber land of opportunity... It's P.E.N.G.U.I.N, not Charles Manson... give the guy a shot! If he's unloyal or incapable, we'll formally relieve him of his duties, like Joe Pesci in Goodfellas.

*after 2 weeks of modding he gets a call from Kiwi*
"Jake...meet me at my place. I gotta talk to you about something."
Okay, then.
*shows up at Kiwi's abode and notices some familiar cars parked in front of the house* Is there a party? Hmm...
*knocks on front door and Kiwi greets him* "Hi, come on in. I have something I think you'll be...ah...interested in."
Oh, okay.
*Kiwi leads him to a dimly lit room where the only light is coming from a suspended ceiling lamp shining down upon a table where a gorgeous ROOR is standing* HOLY SHIT!
"Go ahead, smoke it, man! It's all yours!"
*walks up to the Roor and sees it's all ready to go, packed with what looks like rock candy* Oh...my...God... *is about to pick it up when Bobbong comes up from behind him and garottes him* No......*dies*
SO, did you talk to the ADMIN and other MODS, Kiwi?

We'll watch ya jake, but right now, I think we are set...cannot speak totally for admin, but, Just to let you know...It is not a request and get an answer thing. It is an ask, and wait...One day you might get a message.
I volunteered when some Mods had left. Having been around and respected...I was considered, and told I was next...Then Del retired...(we miss ya, bro.) he's lurking about, I believe. so administration added 2 more...
It took a few months. Even after I volunteered.
so you can relax, and keep building friends, maybe one day, bro

I admire anyone who would want to be a mod, and make an added contribution to the site. It seems like alot of aggravation, having to deal with some immature (not necessarily their age) posters.
Personally, if I were looking for Mods, I'd look for more subject experts (growing, legal, activists, sexuality ... ) who would more in the foreground, as visible forum leaders, not just traffic cops.
But no matter how they are chosen, I appreciate their contribution.
and remember this...ALL MODS HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR PROFILE PAGE AND ISP INFO...something to keep in mind when picking a moderator. ask yourself if you're comfortable with this person (whomever the person is...nothing personal here and i have no one in mind) knowing where you live, right down to your phone number and name on the account. it gets much deeper than losing a post here and there or getting banned for a few days...there is heavy responsibilty with the job and knowledge like this in the wrong hands can be very costly and damaging...

All the moderators have is your email account and profile page.
They have as much access to your ISP as anyone else.
no dude they have yer IP address too man

In my experience with Forums (And I've had quite a bit of it, being a mod and admin on serveral) you seem to be more generally accepted for 'moddom' when you don't ask ;) Maybe it works differently here, I dunno...One thing you might want to display though, and this is just what I've always looked for in mods, is affinity with the forum's technology, able to help people with their technical problems ect. knowledgable about the subject of the forum of which they moderate. Doesn't participate in flaming/hazing of any kind on the forums, and helps to keep the peace. and as always, is a helpful contributor to the forums.
These are just suggestions...It's those members who've always stood out to me as an Admin.
Oh, and on the note of ISPs and IPs, having your IP is no big deal, with a bit of know-how anyone can find anyone else's IP address...Don't panic about people knowing your IP...It's not like knowing your social-security number, believe me.

JM is passionate about this website and the people and the vibe...and he wants to feel more empowered to pm people and do more shit I guess...I dont know why he wants to, but I guarantee the guy will get to 10000 post before the next 100 people combined do. JM for mod

06-17-2006, 05:03 AM
I've modded for a few forums and was the admin at two of them. A guy earlier said the best way to be a mod is stand out without drawing attention to yourself. Personally, I'd trust the people who stand out amongst thier peers as respectaed members of the community over people who advertise themselves with sensitive infromation like an IP address. Either way, good luck, dude.

If you like this site i suggest staying a regular
member once you are a moderator it kinda
drains the fun out of the server you are on.
I am a moderator on a few other sites and sometimes
I dred going to those sites. I am probably a shitty
moderator too because i have only kick one person
from one site in the past 2 years.LOL and i felt like
some kinda net cop when i did it so i leave all the
dirty work to the other mods now.

i don't see why anyone gets ragged on for wanting to be a mod, i wanted to be one at one point as well, but i'm far from non-judgemental, and honestly, i don't think i'm really cut out to be a mod, but i did want to be one, mainly to help the site out, it seemed to me even with as many mods as we had at the time, they were still heavily swamped and way in over their heads, bout the only thing i have going for me being a mod is how long i've been here and how much i prowl the boards.
NOTE: please do not consider me for mod, i can tell you now my privleges will end up revoked, as i said, i'm far from non-judgemental lol...

I have to say, and this is just my personal opinion...Being a Moderator or an Admin is highly overrated, it sounds fun at first, but it really is a chore...I respect you for trying JM :)
If there was one "Moderator-like" job I actually enjoy, it's being an IRCop or Network Admin, because then I can at least just stand back, let people fight it out, and kline (Kill line, it disconnects a client from a server) them from afar! lol I tend to look for jobs that are difficult though, I want to be a teacher O_O that should say something...I see why you want to become a mod JM, I just think you should really step back, and look at what you'd have to do, you have to be totally non-judgemental, if one of your dearest friends breaks the rules, you might have to ban them...I know how that is, I've been there, it's a very difficult position...You are going to be subject to abuse, about your decisions, such as closing a thread, or banning someone...
I mean, It's a big decision man, I just hope you thought about all this you know?

Look Jake...We all think you are a good guy. you need to help out and wait. you might as well give up this thread. I was here over a year and had helped numerous growes in the cultivation section, and as billionfold has mentioned, and like Bobbong has said numerous times; I was a Mod before I was a Mod...helping to keep things on a positive note whenever possible. I can also tell you that there are some other deserving people ahead of you...for reason above.
Can you teach growing? I cannot say that sundance won't promote you out of the Blue, but I haven't seen any indications.
Keep doing what you are doing, but broaden yourself, and in time perhaps you will get a special message. peace woody
As a matter of fact...Read up on Billionfold's efforts.

Ok, I'll say it again..a 15 year old shouldn't be mod on a "cannabis.com" site when he should be in history and english class or doing his history and english hw. And mods dont do shit except lock threads..nobody really does shit on this website except put up more banners..its just about a bunch of advertising and money for the owners....

i was 13 when i started smoking, and i'm one of the brightest people in my family, and definately the brightest of all my friends, the only person that 'out-wits' me is my wife...
maybe you're just jealous someone younger then you actually stands a chance (i think) at being a mod, eitherway pull the crab out of your ass and grow up...
then again, some [very dimwitted people] just can't accept change, and when change does happen to them, they cry moan and bitch about everything, just to be attacking 'the change' to those of you who this applies to, might as well go find another forum, the change is done, and no ammount of whining is going to bring it back, the mods/admin probably even have more 'drastic' changes planned... they said cann.com is going to be changing alot, taking away one forum, and steering people to behaving respectively (which i think personally if you're old enough to be smoking weed/be on this website, you're old enough to act like mature adults) is hardly much change.
simply put: grow up, move on or move out.
