It's basically topping anf topping again. You get about 5 nodes, and pinch just at the top internode, you then get 2 shoots, and you can let them grow out for a week or 2 and pinch them too and you end up getting a bushy slut plant that's yeild very high if in right conditions.

FIMing is different than topping. In order to FIM, which I've never been able to figure out how to do properly, you need to cut a certain shape out of a new shoot at precisely the right spot. When you pinch off a shoot you get two new ones. When you FIM properly, you get 6 or 8 new ones, from what I've read.

I recently tryed this.
You need to cut about a third of the top 3 tops off.
So basicly you take the top and cut about half of it off.
It stunts the main cola. But only enough to stunt it not kil it.
The idea is to make the side branches grow and then have the main cola heal and keep growing.
I'll let you guys know if this works.

the growing tip contains the growth 'enzymes', (not sure if thats the right term) ... anyway, the highest point on the plant contains this growth factor ... cutting off the main tip, lower than the surrounding stems, makes those stems become the highest point of the plant, and then they will ALL form colas ... WARNING: ... too much pruning like this causes stress, and can hermie the plant ... a little is good, a lot is not ... personally, I snip only the main tip ... :smokin:

so between the 4 and 5th node, i grab the highest part of the stem above the 4th node and , with sissors, snip half way into the stem and let the other half be. do i do this before or after i start flowering? and should i tie the main cola up because wont it fall over?

You could do this, but this has nothing to do with FIM.

Then, what does? ;)

I saw a post on FIM'ing, then I found this one while searching for more info... I just have no idea what anyone is talking about. Is the node just above or just below the petiole? I mean.. I thought that to top a plant, you cut somewhere in the internode region (preferably as close to the bottom node as possible. But to cut "60-80% of the node" ????? I'm so confused and don't understand the pictures and diagrams. I'm intrigued, though --- pretty pretty please will someone enlighten me?
