600W in a C-22???

A good friend grows in the model C-22 closets (2x4 ft) using 400W MH & HPS.

Realizing that more wattage equals greater yields he wants to go to 600W systems all around. But, he says that he will not be able to control the heat.

I say that he will be able to do so with proper cooling and venting.

What do you guys think? Can a C-22 support a 600W system?

What other factors must be considered?

hmmmm for that size of a space why not grow with a 400watt, not as hot and is suitable for the amout of space. also, getting greater yeilds depends on ventilation, so adding a bigger light might contribute to a harder yeild........my 2 cents, good luck

My boy's currently using a 400W set up but is looking to "up" his yields.

All considered, a 600W may create too much heat to keep under control.

how many plants is he growing or has he grown in the past, and what were his yeilds?....i was thinking about getting one of those C-22 but i think they discontinued them, so i got the c-25 i think, i havent really modified it yet because of my money situation.

I saw a post on the now defunct overgrow.com, where a guy had a cabinet about the size of a C-22, and a 1000 watt HPS light. He decided to try the 1000 watt light in the cabinet, and it worked fine once he got his ventilation going good. 1000 watts is too much light for that amount of area, and he knew that, but he already had the light, and wanted to see if it was doable, and it was. So if 1000 watts is doable, obviously 600 watts is too. I don't think it will result in a major yield increase though, as the real benefit will come from the far ends of the area, where the 400 watt light might not be providing a lot of light.

A cheaper and more flexible alternative would be to put 4 30 watt CFLs at each end of the rectangle (where the coverage from the 400 watt light is at its weakest). This would provide 640 watts, but I think you'd get more light at the edges that way, and thus more yield. And you could turn off the CFLs but keep the 400 watt light running if heat became an issue, which is not an option when it's an all-or-nothing one-light situation.

as I've researched light sources, and prices, I was put off by the prices I found of the 600-watt ... the 600w bulbs were price MUCH higher than the 400s, and pretty close to the 1000w ... the 400w seems to be the best bang for the buck ... if I was to go bigger than 400w, I would go to 1000w, not the 600w ... :smokin:

Yeah, guys. The 600W will likely give better coverage for the dead spots that you get from bringing the light down too low especially with SOGs.

He started using the 400W because it was the only system with a switchable balast so that he can use MH or HPS bulbs when and if needed. This way closets can be easily switched to vegging, flowering and back to vegging.

He's getting much less than 0.5 per watt and he thinks that he should at least get 0.5...

Neat thing about closets is that you can have both 12/12 flowering and 18/6 vegging crops growing in the same room!:thumbsup:

^^What he said. If you're gonna go bigger than 400W, get a 1000W.

If you don't wanna do 1000W in a C22, then go with jamstigator's suggestion. Just keep the CFL's close to the plants.

I thought 600W were the best?

They have more lumens per watt than the 400 or 1000.

They are more efficient! I can't believe I just saw 2 people that suggested anything different.
