Papaya - Outside

Hiya im new to this forum and i am also new to growing. I do know alot about growing but i have never actually tried my hand in it. I have decided to make this thread so i can display my progress. I know Papaya grows BETTER in hydro so it will be interesting to see how the bud turns out from it being cultivated outside. I am keeping my Papaya plants in my North Facing (28-32 Degress C) in there most/all of the time.

I shall attatch pictures (SO FAR) on how the plants are doing.

The pictures i shall attatch here are pictures of the plant from Day 40 - Day 72. I am only up to day 80 at the moment, so when i see some further progress on the plants i shall post some more :)

This is one of the plants, one of the larger ones, this picture was taken today. ALL of my 6 plants are now under going the 12 on 12 off cycle and have already started showing their geneder signs. So far i have found ONE male (disposed of) and ONE female (the largest one). I had taken a clone of this female and rooted it with hormone, it is doing very well and i shall be posting pics of her soon :)

Sorry theres been an abundance of pictures, at some point today ill add a pic of my plants early on in the flowering stage. i estimate in a week, week n a half i shud see the flowers, but at the mo theres only white pistols all over em.

I also have the strain Papaya, and on a diff site, there is one person who is also growing papaya out doors and his grow is doing very well. He is in the last 2 weeks until harvest. His indoor papaya has been harvestde and the sample smoke is the best smoke he has ever had. Hopefully it will go well for u & me. I don't plan on growing my papaya until next year tho. If I grow now, the hurricanes will kill them (just a guess). The pics of the the papaya buds on the other site were so covered in crystals. Super frosty, :dance: you will see. big fat buds too. Sounds good mate, ive had a look at the pics of the indoor papaya on another thread and they look well sweet, im posting some new pics on ere now, some pretty sweet pics if i may add :thumbsup:
Ive also put a fan in ma green house to keep the plants moving about so the stalks r nice n strong (they already are i just wanna make sure ;) ) so looking foward to cropping this it shud be so tasty. I think i have roughly about 1.5-2months left of growing and they shud be ready for the chop. My clones i am rooting are doing well, wish they would hurry up n root tho lol (been about 5days now). Ill post some piccies of them aswell wen theyve rooted and been potted. For now though enjoy the new pics and remember always comment if you think im doing somthing wrong, if im doing somthing well, somthing i should be doing etc..... because i would love feedback

Just wondering if anyone has any pics they cud show me of actual Papaya bud (grown outside) cus there isnt many pics on the internet of them, and any pics i do find are pics of papaya indoors, so any pics would be appreciated, either pics of the bud on papaya or prefferably pics of the bud cropped off the papaya and dried.

Well here they are, theyre about 3weeks into flowering now and looking lurrvly

I have 3 females and the 2 slightly smaller females have very high potency, but my large female plant is not very potent atall, how much will the potency affect the outcome of the final bud. Will the ones that are potent be real nice buds and the one that hasnt got much potency be not so good?

Please answer asap plz, and if poss gimmie sum tips on how i could improve the potency.

I also bought Papaya intending to grow it outside, as reading about it I noticed it was a low grower and I needed an inconspicuous growing. I haven't gotten the seeds in yet, but I'll be saving them for next season if they don't get in here soon. I know Papaya is supposedly an early finish and not sure if 4 months is long enough for them if I start them now. We definitely don't get any frost out here till December... but still the cold weather will slow them down too much.

I'm really impressed with your Papaya grow so far though. It's obvious those are well cared for girls there :)

Hey Mr.Whippy :clap: Nice flowers, the bud formation is looking great. I to have Papaya and I might be growing them indoors. I just need to know one thing, how would you rate the smell of the papaya from 1 to 10? Is it a strong smell or barely a smell. I don't want my whole house smelling like a grow lab :p

Sabrinaleena: Yes, nice and early they are indeed. I had my plants on 18hrs outside for its first 2months of growing and then after that i put them into 12hrs of light 12hrs of dark. Its coming up to about 4 - 4 half months old now and i wreakon ill be harvesting in 2weeks. Yes Papaya is a brilliant strain, this grow has been my 1st ever grow and i would recommend papaya to ANYONE.


BLaQLiGht: The smell is a very resiny, fruity, citrus like orangey smell. potency about 7/10, it wont stink your house out dont worry pal :). Indoors, would you be using hydroponics, i would love to see your grow, make sure you make a diary so we can all have a look :)

how are you managing your 18 hours of light outside? are you carrying them all back and forth to control it? they're flowering so early in the season too...are you in australia? it's just hard relating to them without the details...

Tried a bit :)

About a month into the flowering stage i thought ied test my buds so far and i was very pleased with result. Smell is a very Citrus'y, resiny and very potent. I cheated a bit, (quick dried the bit i tried) so i doubt its as nice as if it were dried propperly, but was still very nice. my fingers got nice n sticky whilst i was rolling my joint so looks like resin content is nice and high. The high was very nice, best high ive had from weed in a while, i tried my bud in a Vapouriser and i had a laugh and watched "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
I am planning on harvesting my Papaya in about 2weeks.

Doesn't mean i will stop growing for this year though. I have just purchased myself some LowRyder and i am very looking foward to making a 2nd grow diary and document there growth. I have never grown an autoflowering strain before and i think it will be very interesting. I shall create another thread called "LowRyder - Outside so keep a look out if your interested in growing LowRyder.

Well, my Papaya came in today from buydutchseeds.com. I'm really tempted to start 5 of them right now and save the other 5 for next season. After seeing your grow I'm getting antsy!

I'm also really interested in the lowryder. If I do decide to pick up any of those I'll start those next season as well, for an outside in the ground grow, not in containers. I like the whole concept behind them because they are autoflowering, low THC content (I'm a lightweight and it doesn't take much to get me stoned), I only smoke a couple times a week, if that.

Right now I have 10 seeds in peat pots of Nirvana's Swiss Miss. It looks like all or most of them are set to germinate soon. I'll be starting a pic journal of that as soon as they break out. Thanks for keeping us up to date!

thats alot of labor. so in your room a fan is pretty much all you need right?

Nah, i usually put a fan in greenhouse throughout the day or leave plants out in the garden to get some wind. So no i dont really bother with a fan in the darkened room, no real need if they get theyre wind in the day. When im drying out my crop i shall ensure i gotta fan on the go though :)

Yo sabrina nice one, got my papaya seeds from Buydutcheeds.com in my opinion best place to buy seeds :). Yea go on love, plant 5 papaya seeds, go on you know you want to. It will be worth it because they are quick growing and all being well you should be able to get ur harvest in before it gets to cold, i would plant 5 now if i were you, you will love growing papaya its nice, quick and with the right care can be nice and easy to grow to. I shall as always be posting more images soon (its like 02:07AM at the mo) so i wont take any pics now cus the plants are in the darkened room. Tomorrow (Friday) i shall add some more pics, because theyres been even more THC appearing and the buds are just getting bigger n bigger every day. About 1 WEEK until the papaya harvest now and i cannot wait. i shall make sure i upload pics of the harvested, dried bud aswell :).

As i said above i shall soon be starting my LowRyder seeds (cus i got a perfect 2months left of summer) so i could just about squeeze in a few LowRyders to bump up my crop, ill make a grow diary of that and keep everyone updated because i know alot of people (includeing myself) are very interested and eger to grow LowRyder. :)

HARVESTED

I have harvested 1 of my 3 Papaya plants. the other 2 will follow next week. I have used a cain of bamboo and put it accross the legnth of a darkened room. ive hung ma buds up on the bamboo using string and ive got a fan circulating the room. Should be ready to smoke in a week or so. :) obviously i nicked a bit to smoke for the mean time and quick dried it ;) but i cant wait for the final dried product X-D

I shall ensure i post plenty of pictures of my room layout for drying em, along with final dried pics and final dried weight. I'll take these photos in a day or 2 :).

oh the weed smokes very nicely, i smoke bongs usually, and with most weed it takes me about 8 bongs to get stoned, but with this papaya i am stoned after about 3 bongs. the high is very nice and it smells amazing too.

I'm so happy for you! It sounds like the harvest went very well.

I planted all 10 of the papaya seeds :P Along with the 10 Swiss Miss by Nirvana. heh I know... 20 is alot but I have my reasons. ;)

First of all it's hot as hell here. Around 102 (around 39C) as our highs. And VERY dry. I'm sure to get more males in the bunch due to the temp extremes. So I figure out of 20 planted (10 papaya 10 Swiss Miss) I'll probably only end up with 7-10 females. So far 100% germination on the Swiss Miss and about 80% beginning to germinate on the papaya. I have them in peat pots filled with plain old seed starter medium without any nutrients in it.

I'll be starting up a noob journal soon, most likely next week. Right now not much going on other than seeds germinating.

Yea no worries thats sound mate, still drying away nicely upstairs :). Good germination rate :D, 9 of my 9 low ryder seeds germinated and 1 random seed i got from sum bud failed, but ah well, most of all 100% of ma lowryder germinated.....i only got 9 seeds cus the idiots only packed 9 seeds in the seed pack, >.< didnt get my full 10.

well ill keep ya'll posted on the papaya drying pics etc..., and remember to have a look at ma lowryder.

1st Plant Harvested and Dried
As i had a plant that was about 2weeks older than the others i could crop this one earlier than the others. So i did just that, i harvested the plants about 1 week ago and i left the bud to dry in a dark 15oC room with a rotating fan. The bud is now dry and the final dry weight of that ONE plant was just under 2ounces. Dunno if this is good or bad, but none the less the weed was absolutly stunning. The pics may not look much cus of the camera flash but this green was top notch :). Was very happy with the result.

I shall be cropping and drying the other 2 plants next week, and i shall be posting more pics on them soon.

For now i shall post a pic or 2 of the Papaya i've just dried out. I only took a pic of a 8th amount of it. Rest of it still hanging up in the dry room.

.........just havin a look at my last grow and i just realised.....i took no decent photos of my crop.

I got about 4-5oz. and i spent around 3 weeks drying it in a warm room with a fan.

Smoked very nicely, and the scent of the bud was very fruity/citrussy
