Thats sweet.. I hope mine get that big at day 51..
Im doing it for the first time and I should have gone with soil like you..
I thought I could get all fancy with hydroponics and I am just not getting the results that I should.. Im at about 2 weeks and the best two only have a few leafs, only about 3" tall. I think I fed them nutes too early. One of them is dying and the last two are just runt looking. And these are premium seedbank seeds.. one of which is somewhere in the long ass carpet in my livingroom (i.e. dont try to stick seeds in rockwool cubes over carpet.. learned that lesson real quick).

damn man lol sorry to hear about MIA seed. i dont know anything about growing hydro., but ive learned that the is no way around getting enough light. mine where about 5" before i got enough light and the leaves looked like dust. they where small and really really weak. i had to tie mine to tooth picks to hold them up. i got some good lighting and they just shot up and got way stronger. i just started to flower mine at 4' cuz i didnt know any better. lol i just learned they get 2 to 3 times bigger as they bud. my grow space is way to small for that so i started LST mine. im ordering some seedbank seeds next week. im thinkin white widow and purple haze. if i get them growing good ill strt hydro. with cuttings. if you have any tips about hydro let me know. im going to use a homemade drip setup i read about.

Howdy Aaron,
Yup..soil is way more forgiving, than hydro is,with hydro, you have to maintain strict parameters on the ph and the plants react more and faster, with mistakes made with hydro. You probably did give them nutes too early and if yer ph was too high, they wouldn't even be able to uptake those nutes to begin with.
When first learning how to grow, you shouldn't use high-priced seeds unless you can afford to lose them, yet,on the other hand, having seeds with good genetics,is very important, they have better structure, higher levels of thc,and are more disease and pest resistant.
When I first started learning how to grow,I used bag-seeds and I learned alot about what the plants need and how to make them thrive. Then I aquired some good genetics and saw the difference right away. The hardest strains for new growers, are the sativa dominate strains, hybrids and indicas are easier to grow and finish alot sooner than sativas do. White widow and Purple haze, ain't the easier strains to grow,I've heard tell, that WW can be finicky and I believe that PH is a sativa dominant strain,so you may not be satisfied with the yield or the buds, which tend to be more airey and less dense, because it's a sativa.
You should pose yer questions in the grow section, there are some very knowledgeable growers here.
Have a good one ! :stoned:

Thanks for the info torog, I am all over the grow section I promise! They have helped and I have been able to help a few as well..
As for the seeds I am using an indica strain.. supposidly the "easiest to grow" and very high THC levels.. but its a new unestablished strain that has yet to win any awards so it wasnt too steep. Im trying some voodo majic with LEDs to keep um fem.
Im almost starting to like hydroponics.. almost.. I have some veggies I am growing in another hydroponic rig that just took the hell off.. gowing inches a day.. unbelieveable under two cfl's. The money crop if you will is about two weeks behind the veggies so I have my fingers crossed.
The main theme I hope is that I have gotten past the front door of hydroponics with minimal losses and from what I hear its pretty much smooth sailing from here.. again.. fingers crossed!
th3- def build it yourself.. if you like to tinker that is.. because you will save money and have fun doing it.. I have one rig that was store bought and another that I built.. I like the one i built more and I wont buy another store rig again. Just read read read and then read some more... do everything exactly the way everyone else did it and dont improvise.. if I followed that advice right there I would have had a much easier time with it!
Oh... and buy the best of everything (within reason) the first time.. SOOO many people lose whole crops because of $7 walmart timers going bad or something STUPID like that.. I learned real fast to stick with good supplies.. and as I build my 6l x 6w x 8h flower room this week I will try and keep that in mind as well! Will try to automate ph control soon so the room wont even need daily checks.. shootin for 95% automation with the 5% being water changeout every 2 weeks and CO2 refills. Wish me luck!!

hey torog thanx for the info on ww i really havent read much on the strain yet. i just smoked some and really liked it. i am sure ill read up and get the seeds i "think and hope" ill be able to grow. i need sumthiong that takes the heat well as im growing in a old barn. its less than ideal but is working so far.
and thanx aaron for the tip about wally world timers "i have 2 now that ill be watching more closely thanx 2 u".lol your space and mine are the same size. ill tell ya give ya the run down on my set up. ive got 6lX6wX8h room at the end of an old barn out back. ive got a 4'X4' whole in the roof covered by clear plastic and 10 4' floros for side lights. all the walls are covered by mylar and ive got 3 intake fans under the barn pushing cool air in and 3 fans sucking the hot out the top.the big prob i have is with heat [105 is the highest its been and down to 70], but im going to put in a small a/c ive got and ditch the 3 intake fans. ive got an old garage door opener on a timer to close the roof with that just installed last week,,"works like a charm so far". the plants are in direct sun from 7am until 7pm. im all about the automation. lol i try to spray the plants with water every morning and on tue and fri i folar feed. yall have to let me know who youve got your hydro setup and how it works when you get done with it. anyway i gota go thanx and good luck

What is the garage door opener for? light timing?
Sounds like you will like hydroponics.. but it will be frustrating at first.. start reading up on it now..
I have two of wally's finest digital timers that I set exactly to the same second a week ago that are now a couple minutes apart!! yea.. DIGITAL lost two minutes in a freakn week?? Thanks walmart.. I now get supplies at lowes or home depot.. bypass wally world cuz its not worth the savings when the savings dont work.
I actually got two other digital timers from a pet store (supposed to be used with automatic feeders) and over the same week they are now almost 2 seconds apart.. not quite two seconds.. but more than one second.. I can live with that I guess.. but freakn A 2 minutes deviance in 1 week?? How long would that leave my 1000 watt hps light running without a fan going after a few weeks?? enough to kill.. damn you wally!
Oh and while you are reading start gathering your supplies.. some you can use with your setup now.. like CO2.. I just scored a digital CO2 controller brand new in box of e/bay (like the kind that sell in hydro shops for $500) for $32.50!! My 1000 watt hps came from a police auction (confiscated goods.. imagine that).. I got it for $40!! Im going to put that bad boy right back to good use :) You can do this shit cheap just dont get in a rush.. start reading and collecting supplies now for when you switch over. Keep a watchful eye for things that you could use.

hey arron385,you can piggyback the fan and light on the same timer and not worry about to much amp draw on the timer.that way your fan and light come on and go off simultaneously.your ballast will draw less than 7 amps and your fan less than or around 3 amps.you've still got 5 amps on that breaker for other outlets.also the amp draw is always highest just at ignition of the lamp, then the amp draw goes down.good luck,ThcBuz

I am still tossing around ideas.. I originally pondered using a bunch of timers but now I am thinking about a control box. I still have time to make up my mind on all that stuff.. and a few more days till payday when I can do anything about my made up mind.. haha
Im thinking about using a digital programable thermostat along with a recirc A/C system and CO2.. the controller will take input from the programmed thermometer and simulate night temps during the day (when the lights are off) and day temps at night when the lights are on. There will be an optical sensor to only allow CO2 injection during lights on periods and it will take input from a CO2 sensor to maintain 1500ppm.. A milwalkee ph controller will be set up to maintain nutrient ph and the only timers will be for the nutrient pump and the lights.. (and there is more than just the one HPS).. This way, lights and nutes are timed, and everything else is fully automated.
I have most of the stuff I need for this now.. including the co2 sensor and the knoledge to build the (simple) controller. I was scouring garage sales for a window unit this weekend with no luck.. damn TX heat
I just extended my lease 18 months and my roomate moved out on me so what to do with a spare bedroom for 18 months right? I mean.. I tried for a while to find another roomate but everyone I know is settled.. so.. I will fulfill my lifelong dream of growing in a spare bedroom. Cant blame a guy for that right? Hahaha.. dont answer!
When I move out of here I will prob sell the equipment to the next guy in line and take my score with me wherever I go.. haha

thanx sauc,,, ill be takeing a few pics as soon a i can see any changes in my plants.
aaron the garage door opener is for lighting. its an old rail and chain i got at the flea market for 10.00. it just came without the door, so it was just what i needed. i use 9'X7' peice of heavy duty canvas for the shade. i wraped the canvas around two 2"X7' steel bars. one bar at each end. the chain from the motor is wieled in the middle of 1 bar. the other bar "witch is filled with sand" is just used as a weight to help the shade fall back into place when its open, and keeps it the canvas pulled tight when closed. ive got a 3rd peice of steel that is 4"x7' that the canvas slides on so it dosent hang up. its working really well so far. when i fist installed it the motor pulled out the screws holding it to the wall, so now ive got it lag bolted through the wall studs. ill be installing the A/C in just a few hours. but i wont be useing it for a few days. ive got to find some way to bring the humidity up before i can use it. right now the humidity is around 40%. but when i take out the fans that pull air up from under the barn i know it will fall alot, and the A/C will just make it worse. ive got 2 cheap-o- humidifiers from the flea market, but i dont know if they will work, so im going to wait until this weekend to change everything. ill be at home all day then so i can baby set it.
im thinking about starting a new "clone/seedling" room with the 10 4' floros i have. any ideas????? i think the floros are purdy much just a waist of ele now that the roof is cut, so ive got them to play with. im thinking about useing 4 cabnets with 1 shelf each. each cabnet would be a defferent hieght, starting where my light would be 4" over the pots and moveing upto the largest cabnet where the light would be 1'6" over the pots. once the plants outgrew that cabnet they would be put in the first grow rom where they can have sunlight and start the 12/12. thata way i can be growing and flowering at the same time at all times. anyway tell me what yall think.
Aaron385
06-13-2006, 09:47 AM
sounds good.. on the humidity issue since you are flowering isnt it better to stay lower in humidity? I picked up a humidifier for $5 because you cant give those things away where I am.. haha..

i know what your saying about giving away humidifiers. lol the reason im not sure about the humidifiers i have is 1 uses heater to humidify the air and the other uses just a fan and straw element. im not sure how well eithor 1 will work.
and i was thinking that my space is way to small to flower 4 plants that are 4'. do yall think it would be ok to take clones or top them now that ive just started to flower them 1 week ago? my plants have grown quite a bit in the last week all are at least 4'. ive never takin a clone or topped a plant before so im kinda chicken about trying. lol i just gave them the first flowering fert its 10N/52P/10P. im mixing it to start at 1/8 strength. sum1 one here told me to give veg nutes for a few weeks into flowering, but they didnt say if i should be giveing the flowering nutes at the same time. any advice would be a huge help. thanx

Cloning - a black majic.. they make it sound so easy but I keep screwing it up.. I know cloning from a flowering plant is a no-no but you just started your cycle so it may work.
Man I wish I could help you more here but I wont speak for something I havent run into myself.. The grow section is full of good info.. Im not saying that to be an asshole but there is far more info there than I have.. expecially since Im hydro only...
And here is my SAD TALE:
That F**kn $5 humidifier (wick style) broke.. broke in the on position.. and just emptied its contents at full blast over the last two days or so and now over half my f**kn plants are dying of MOLD or Fungus..
I mean I saw the problem.. but it was so freaky to diagnose.. there were spots.. but plants looked healthy.. thought it might be nutes but there were two of them outside of the hydroponic system that had the same symptoms.. and two new seedlings.. all the same.. but a bell pepper plant that I use as a tester for new hydroponic mixes showed no ill signs.. I was scouring the FAQ's for possible issues and looking at 100's of pics of plants.
I have root misters under the roots that I noticed were making an unusually abundant amount of mist (this later proved the rediculously high humidity).. There was a hygrometer readout on the machine which is what I used to determine humidity but that reading was the whole problem.. there is no telling how long it has been off or by how far.. the thing was drinking a gallon a day..
I shut off the humidifier (and the root misters too for extra effect) and increased ventillation a couple hours ago.. this should dry out the plants and hopefully they will survive.

hey aaron sorry to hear about your misfortune man. ive been readin in the FAQs and looking at more pics than i can could too. i read them as much as i can lately but im on slooooow assed dail-up, and get kicked off line all the time. "crappy phone lines out here in the sticks." lol im going to try to clone a few this weekend just for kicks. these are all just bag seed plants so its no biggy if i kill them "like i prolly will". im goin to go get some root stimulater later this week. and i think i might have a lead on 2 400w HIP and 3 150w soduim fixtures really cheap. 100.00 for all. if i can get those i will change my grow space alot. hopefully for the best. i started germ. 50 bag seeds today aswell that im going to try SOG with. im going to use 3Lt bottles with potting soil, if i can get that down ill try hydro next. hope your plants recover. let me know if you get them back on track and if you do what all you had to do to get them back.

I shut off the humidifier and the mold stopped.. plants seem to have mostly recovered except the dead spots left by the fungus.. I will cut the leafs off in a couple of days that are affected.. the plants just got their first seven pointers so I am stoked.
might take you up on your offer thc.. if I cant get it right.. The humidifier wasnt my fault.. equipment broke.. but i have made just as many mistakes.. Im setting up vent system now as these little babbies are starting to stink.. I had no idea such a small ass plant could stink so bad.. guess the hydroponics makes the smell stronger.. im going to full strength nutes this weekend!

heya aaron hows it goin??? im good and so are my plants thanx for asking. i have sexxed then with 3 outa 4 being females im happy. 1 turned out to be herme. but with just 1 loss ill be ok. lol they are about 5 1/2' tall now and have started to bud out nicely. looks like they should be done before to aweful long. i started a new cabnet inside and have it all hooked up. i started a grow in there about 2 weeks ago. its a small cabnet 2'wX4'lX4'h. iev tried a few different tricks i came up with just to see if they work. ill be useing this box more i hope. i took all my lights outa my barn and put them in the cabnet. so ive got 10X4' floros so it should be enuogh for a while anyway. i will start to bud these at 12". ive got 12 started but i know ill lose a few and theres gota be a male or to. so i hopeing for 4 good females. i made a homemade kinda CO2 pump for them and wow what a difference. they have really started to grow now. way faster, thicker stems and at least 2x as many nodes as the barn grow. thses are just bag seeds to, but about 3/4 of them have purple stems. i have no clue what kind they are, but they seem to be doing good so far. anyway, hows your hydro man? did you get it all set up yet?

i have had some.. setbacks? bad luck i guess..
what do you mean by a co2 pump?
th3bigbad
07-17-2006, 03:40 AM
setbacks??? "whatchya talkin about aaron?" lol and as for the CO2,,, i grew for a few weeks in just the cabinet with just light and plain ole air. but then i read more and more about how CO2 will help out alot so i wanted to try that. will after finding out how much the timers and all that you need to use bottled CO2 are i thought i'd better come up with a way to get it cheaper and in a small cabnet like mine i dont have room for the bottle or much of anything for that matter,,,, but i read that burning natural gas gives off plenty of CO2. well i mover my cabnet to the room next to the water heater that burns natural gas. well long story short, i ran the exaust pipe outa the top of the water heater into the cabinet down about 1/2 and a new pipe out of the top of my cabnet to the roof exaust for the water heater. CO2 is heaver than air so the CO2 settles to the bottem of the cabnet, while the hot air raises to the top of the cabnet where i have a fan to suck it out of the other pipe and out the roof. ( no smell and no heat) some say that the CO2 just falls down around the the fire inside of the water heater and stay in the water heater closet, but im not too sure i believe that. the water heater pulls a vaccuum so it doesnt seem possible for the CO2 to stay down there and not get pulled out.the plants were growing ok before the CO2 but now they are "for lack of a better term" kickin ass. the plants are about 8" and the stems are about the size of ink pen, with some with 9 nodes. they are thick and full. i think ill start makeing them bud in less than 2 weeks maybe 1. the temp in the cabnet went from 78 to a high of 82( thats with the water heater running for 3 hours srt8).i dont have a meter to check the CO2 levels or anything so i have no clue how much they are getting, but i know the plants dont lie and they are happy as hell right now. ima try to grow with only floros this time just to see if i can do it. i think 10 4' floros may work. well let me know about your setbacks. take care

To explain (this is cut and paste from veggie thread):
I have all the best nutes and additives left over from my other grow.. if you notice on the pics that tub is actually the one I was using in my other grow.. which had to be canceled due my dumbass roomate getting drunk and telling the whole world.. he now owes me alot of money which im sure I will never see again.
Maybe in a year or two when everyone I meet doesnt know me as "the guy that grows..." thanks to that loud mouth mother f...
Heres a tip for all to enjoy.. if you have a roomate or friend that cannot be avoided from knowing about your operation.. make them financially involved in it big time.. make them order your hydro gear and put solid money in the deal.. like hundreds of dollars! otherwise they have nothing to lose by telling everyone and since they want to sound cool and are too dumb to do anything cool on their own.. you get burned.
---
So.. yea.. setbacks :(
I went from the perfect cover to fucked overnight and I mean before I ever bought the first floro for this proj I had a nice LONG talk for days about keeping 100% silent and not tellin ANYONE.. how to deal with cops.. everything that could and would happen.. and most importantly NOT TO TELL ANYONE!!
But just as the first white hairs showed up a friend from his work showed him a pic of a bagseed plant growing in a coffiecan on his cell phone and this guy was just like "ah thats nothing.. my roomate has a setup thats so much cooler than that.. it has hydroponics.. co2 and 1000w light.." exc exc.. (dont you hate ppl that try and one up you by telling you about how much better their cousins sisters friends bf's whatever is??? FUCK!).. I knew he was like that but I didnt think he would talk about it.. I guess he thinks if I get busted he wont?? I dont fucken know.. I have barely talked to the guy since the day I tore down my whole setup. I lost at least a couple grand in the deal. So pissed.
Anyways.. that transpired between me asking how your grow was doing and you responding.. but I am really glad you are still at it and I applaud your inginuity. I was using a coleman camping cat heater to raise co2 levels and it did work (verified with Telair PPM sensor and that glass tube kit they sell for CO2 measuring).
Keep up the good work.. I have another year till my lease is up here in no grow land and at best I will find a new place to live (and grow) by then.. and a new (or NO) roomate.

damn arron sorry to hear about all these "setbacks". not to sound like a selfish ass, but i really wanted to know how your setup worked out. i hate ppl like that( and i live in a town full of them). ive been busted twice just cuz some1 said i was growing or i was holding. luckly i wasnt growing or holding eithor time, but i lost a cool assed bong. and it was brand new never used glass bong that i had bought the day before for the loc headshop for 100.00. so all in all i was lucky but still sucks that ppl just have to talk. there are only 2 people that know im growing that know me #1 wife #2 myself. i think im purdy safe "for now". lol ill post a few pics by this week end. im waaaay freakin happy with this grow so far. i think i mightve statred the nuts alil on the soon early side ( ive got a few with lil yellow spots on the leaves), but they are just about over it. BTW, i tried to clone. lol i am sooo not good at that. i broke one of my barn plant's branch off, so i just had to try. thats just turned out 42 flavors of bad. all are dead now. so thats an hour ill never get back. lol
have you thought any about growing outdoors? ive got a few plants just droped off here and there, and they all seen ok so far. but this heat is hurting them bad. they need water but i dont wanna go around them too much. when i planted them i put some of those clear "jelly-like" things that are used for watering in the soil so they arent dead yet, but they are starting to burn up. oh and FYI those lil "jelly-like" watering things arent to cool for growing out side. when everything is brown and dieing and your plants are green and happy they tend to stand out a bit. lol
Aaron385

i know what your talking about on those jelly pellit things.. I think they were actually the original hydro medium for this side of the globe.. anyways yea I have a couple areas in mind and a few seeds left over that I will drop in the ground whenever temps get out of the 100's.. I think we will have a late enough or mild enough winter to probably pull a few plants to maturity out in the wild.
When/if I go back to growing I will go hydro. Its tits for sure.
Oh keep up at the cloning.. when I was throwing everything out I pulled the cuttings out of the rockwool that I had taken and they were actually rooting.. I took pics.. so sad to see um go :(
At least now I know.. hey go to urbangrower.com and watch remo do clones.. pay attention to how he shakes the rockwool dry before cuttings! I think thats what did the trick for me. Also not keeping um too wet or too dry.

hey this is my cabnet grow. these are 1 month old and i think they are really goin good so far. the long skinny few you can see in the back ground are the clones that have all but died. i figured id let'em stay untill they are completely dead.my batts in my cam went out on me before i could get any pics of the cabnet but ill post some soon. well what do ya think??? these are bag seeds too. so i dont have a clue about what kind they are. i started the nutes about 1 week ago, and i think ill start flowering maybe next week. they are around 8"-10".

yeah aaron im going to get some good seeds once i get a system down that i know i can grow with. i hate to waste good seeds on a bad plan. if this crop does ok ill prolly get some highend seeds, but im still learning. but if this crop lives and does well ill know the setup i have works. then ive got to work out the buggs ive got with cloning.
do you have any advice on seeds??? like where to get them or what kind would work well in my setup? i smoked some purple haze a while back and really liked it, but i mostly smoke crap ppl grow in fields so my idea of good pot is alil off. with the pot i get most of the time i smoke 2 bowls in a row just to get lite headed. the purple haze i had like 2 hits and was well on my way to happyland. ive tried white widow a time or 2 but i dont like that "become a part of the couch" feeling. i like the giggely lite high more. i like any1 else want the most bang for my buck. i smoke about 1 oz a week of crap. and 1/4oz of haze lasted 1 week. so i know its well worth it to get good seeds n all. and hopefully that will be my next crop.

I had good luck with Nirvana seeds arriving in good time and they worked fine for as long as I had them. Great prices too!
http://www.nirvana-shop.com
As far as what would work well.. its always a blend of what you want and what will work well. Sativa strains produce that heady high (vice couch lock which im not a fan of either). Sativa are not the best for indoors though.. but since I wanted a sativa high I dealt with them. You just need to be ready to restrain tall ass plants.. Im almost sure the ones you are growing now are Sativa.
I found the following couple sites VERY helpful for strain selection:
OG strain guide:
http://www.hanflexikon.de/
Another strain guide -
http://cannagenetic.phpwebhosting.com/cgi-bin/showstrain.pl/
One thing you may want to consider is feminizing up some of your own seeds too if you want to do a field grow. Its pretty easy sounding to make fem seeds.. I have the stuff to do it now. Let me know if you are interested in how to do that because Id love to see if it really works.. and I can grow experiment vicariously through you! haha
On cloning.. you MUST own anti wilt spray!!! It is a godsend!! Rockwool and cloning gel (rooting compound) are damn good too. You will love that stuff when you get it..

i checked out those links you gave me and they are a big help. i havent had time to look at them all yet but im thinking maybe a few sweet toothes, maybe a 4-way or two, and blue widow. thats just a staring point ill pick one or two to start with later.
and about the fem seeds,,, ill try just about anything once. so sure lay it on me man. ive got some "wild" plants going now.( 20 to be exact) they range from 4' to around 7'. thats just a ballpark. i dont like checking in on them to much. if you dont think its to late in the grow or anything ill try some experiments on a few of them. they are just bag seeds too.
ive got 1 monster plant its not all that tall, but its huge. its atleast 4' maybe 5' cross at the bottem. its a freak lol some1 will prolly find it before its ready. its close to a river that ppl ride ATVs in all the time.
a few of my clones are starting to look green "i think". might just be wishful thinking. out of the 15 clones it looks to me like 5 are starting to come back. i mist them 2 times a day. once before the lights come on with really weak nutes, and once after the lights have been off for about 2 hours with reg water. i used the rooting powder on them before i planted them, so ima cross my fingers anyway.

GIBBERELLIC ACID TREATMENT: Select your favorite female plant and spray it from approx. two feet away (first under the leaves, then on top). This must be done 2 weeks before the plant is put into the flowering light cycle, thus the need to start with female seeds/clones. DO NOT SMOKE BUD TREATED WITH GIBBERELLIC ACID! Spray the plant again after 2 weeks have passed, and place it under 12/12 lighting. This plant will "hermie" and pollinate itself and other females present. It will not produce as much pollen as a pure male, thus less seeds. However, these seeds will be 100% female
--
So the G.A. has to be sprayed on before flowering..
I have a hookup for the acid too.. written down some where. If your interested I will dig it up. I think its only like $10 for a mix it up yourself packet thats more than enough to do a plant.

sounds cool arron, im kinda scared most of my plants will turn out female that are outside anyway. this heat is baaaad this year. but who knows. i havent started a all female crop yet, but when i do ill sure try that. is there some reason you cant do that on an inside plant? if not i might pull a few of mine out and make them flower soon just to see the females, then put them back into veg. after that i could try that stuff.

i think you want to do it on a fem clone.. and the only reason to keep it away from the others is that the pollen will spread like mad.

i just checked in on my clones and i was shocked. ive got 8 outa 15 starting to grow new leaves and turn really green. i thought they were all dead but they are still kickin. i gave them really weak nutes 3 days ago, and they seem to like it alot. 1 was alomost all yellow and wilting bad, just laid over on its side. now its got 2 new leaves and 2 starts. its still laying over but its growing anyway. the other plants are getting big. i was bored today so i was missing with them. ive got 1 thats 9" tall and 13" wide. lol there isnt 1/4" that doesnt have nodes.
the only thing ive realy done much different in this grow from the last 1 was the CO2. im useing the same nutes mixxed the same, the same kinda dirt, im useing less lights. i had 10 4' floros, now im just useing 8. my last crop was tall and weak.they got like 12" and just had maybe 6 leaves. this crop is around 8" to 12" and has to many leaves to count. so i guess that CO2 is the cats ass when your growing.
if anything i wouldve bet money my first crop wouldve looked better than this 1, just cuz i had 1 plant per pot. this crop ive got 9 in a plastic toat thats 20"lX16"wX10"d.(almost like a SOG) i wasnt planing on them looking this good or i wouldve used 1 plant per pot. im hopeing thats going to be big enough for them to flower in too. i might have to put them in bigger pots.
i went and bought a freaking ton of worms today and got 6 coolers full of a mix of cow poo/dirt/newpaper total 25.00. i spent the biggest part of the day mixxing that crap up. i put around 75 worms in each cooler and put them under my house were it stays cool. next crop will have worm castings now. if they work 1/2 as well as ppl says it does ill be happy.have you ever used castings ?
ima put my plants into flowering this weekend by then they should all be atleast 1' tall. do you think i could put the clones into flowering to? i kinda thinking if i do i might stress them into hermies. but i really dont know.

Clones need legs.. or roots before flowering.. but you might get away with vegging them for a week or two when the others are flowering and then putting the clones in with the seedlings. Clones assume the age of the mother plant.. thats a big concept and the reason why they have different nutrent reqs than seedlings. They will look and act different.
CO2 is the cats ass in all I have seen.. mostly with veggies though.. as I have the same plants outside in the TX sun and then inside under floros and "enhanced" CO2.. the inside plants are bigger than the outside ones!
The "enhanced" part is me and my roomate breathing all the time.. inside CO2 is steady at 1800ppm (by digital CO2 analyzer read daily) and probably will stay up as long as this heat keeps us from opening windows and stuff. Cant beat free! Except that I bought all the equipment just to find out CO2 levels were already nearly at toxic levels to the plants without any addition.
I have never really done the soil thing.. not for anything that serious.. I mean ive dropped seeds in soil but I learned all I know thru hydro.. A VERY worthy investment for those who like to tinker with the forbidden arts.. but no small investment either.. you will spend over a thousand of dollars to make a good hydro garden.. when you would only spend a couple hundred to do the same in dirt.
If those clones have a good set of roots by the weekend you may concider flowering.. I like to experiment so I might take one clone and flower it along with the others and hold the others back for a bit.. you get to see what happens and not risk everything.

hey aaron, hows it goin? i just bought a buncha junk from a friend and thought id see what ya think. i got some superthirive, maxicrop(liquified seaweed), some fert 38/10/10 and some 10/52/10, 40 lbs of wormcastings, and a few more floros. im going to start flowering tomorrow. any advice on the nutes.???
i think i might flower my clones too. they are kickin ass in the last few days.(thanks to you) i upped the nutes on them and they are looking really good. i just about doubled the 38/10/10 fert from the other plants. theyve got plenty of new really green leaves, at least 8 new leaves and 4 nodes. so im figuring they have to have roots good enough to flower now.i flushed my seedlings last night and gave them some wormcasting tea, but no nutes.
ima post some pics. tonight of the clones and of my seedlings. they are all pretty close to the same hight. my seedlings are way stockier than the clones, but with the new growth i think theyll be ok. i have 16 4' 40 watt floros now, but im only useing 8 right now. 4 on the top and 2 on each side. i have room to put 12 on top and 12 on each side. do you think i can flower with 16? i can get more if i need to. ill just be flowering the 2 boxes in the pics ill post.
just any advice you might have would help. you know im learning as i go and mistakes are going to happen, but id really like to keep them to a minimum if at all possible.
1 is clones
2 is seedlings
3 is seedlings
4 is seedlings
5 is seedlings

Wow.. hey im sorry I missed your posts for so long.. I was in a political debate and posted like 30 times in one day and this thread got bumped off my active list..
Anyways..
Im not a fan of flowering under floros. If there is anyway you can avoid it (i.e. getting an hps light) you will be doing much better.. worth the money no question.. With 16 x 40watts floros you will be pumping out nearly 700 watts of power and not getting what you want for it.. a 1000 watt HPS light can give you top colas the size of your forearm.. and you can find them used for $100-$150. Floros are great for leafy green stuff and terrible for fruit (bud) production. It CAN be done but if there is any way.... lets just say when you do find a way you will say.. "damn why didnt i do this a LONG time ago" :)
When I think about clones having roots im thinking about looking at a rockwool cube or a peat pellet but im guessing yours are like all in the ground so you cant really see how the roots are doing.. but as long as you see that vigerous new growth and you can tell they are groing like a new plant plus a week or two of veg and they should be good to go.
As far as the other new stuff be very careful and only add things in very low doses.. It can be much worse in soil than in hydro and it is bad in hydro.. I cant tell you how many times ive had to empty a whole res because some miricle product made my plants go south overnight.
again sorry for the delay on the reply.. I added my AIM link if you need to get my attention any faster in the future.

hey its no biggy dude, ive been just chillin. i started flowering last week and so far so good. im just useing the lquidifed seaweed/wormcasting tea in the soil, and a mix of the 38/10/10,10/52/10 mixxed weak mostly the 38/10/10 for folar feeding. ill be useing more and more of the 10/52/10 and less of the 38/10/10 with each feeding.
as for the HPS or MH lights, i cant seem to find any that are a decent price around here. the biggest that i can find are 150w for $80.00 HPS, $60.00 MH(homedepo). and as big as my box is i was thinking i would need at least 2 maybe 3. and that would just be more heat than i could deal with.my box is staying right around 80 with the humidity ranging for 30% to 60%. i dont really have any way of cooling my box while keeping it air tight.and i need it as tight as possible to contain the CO2. im useing 2 fans (1 exaust and 1 just blowing on the plants to keep the air moving). the floros are nice and cool thats why im useing them now. if i can come up with a way to cool my box better i'd like to use HPS or MH. any ideas?

the hps lights or mh for that matter that you are looking at are not what you want to get. Checkout a good online hydro site and you will see what you need. If you need to know the places in TX where you can pick them up for cash I can help with that too.. there are a few indoor garden centers in the major cities.. you will need one sooner or later. Ebay is another possibility too.. you will want horizontal bulb fixtures for agricultural purposes with hortilux or another growing enhanced spectrum bulb. Money would be a waste on anything but.. and cooling them if you have a decent air supply is alot easier than people lead on.. but no they are not easy to cool in the back of a closet with next to no airflow.. just imagine cooling an incandecent bulb (or bulbs) of equal wattage and if you can handle that you will be fine.. a little bit of airflow over the bulb and some air exchange with the outside.. you should be fine
