100w HPS?

If i was to be using a 100w HPS with flourescents as well, how far should the HPS be away from the plant to stop it cooking her? Also how many plants do you think 70watts, of flourescent light, would support.

a think maybe about 8-12 inches above the plant with the hps seen as its 100 watts and would be best in a confind space with maybe 2-3 plants
