my plants are at 5 weeks 12/12. they are NLxBB, I recently switched from a 250 hps (what I used to use) -400 hps/MH for this grow. I am growing in a 1 m square grow tent and using bio bloom 2.5-6.5-3 or something close to that. the light has been no more than 12 inches away at any time and is generally closer. most of the buds are coming along nicely...but on one of the plant the buds are looking strange. look at the pics below (2 are normal 1 is wierd). this hasn't happened to me before now and it looks like the buds have stretched, but I really don't know how. anyone think of a prolem? or will they fill out
Hello amstron :) , Myself I think there fine, nothing wrong at all ;).
Plants tend to be like like people and animals they don't all grow to the same uniformity, all grow different even though they may all be in the same enviorment.
On my present grow some of the buds are nice and tight in a solid mass, others are a bit stringy and streched out. Then there is runty she doesn't even look like the same strain.
I wouldn't worry they will fill out a bit more ;) ...................... by the way amstron, that looks a nice grow you have there :)

You went from HPS to MH?
Yes the extra lumens are great but in flower you are better off with the HPS. The color shift in the light is what affects the flowers. The THC percentage will be less as well. MH is best suited for the veg cycle and HPS is best for the flower cycle.

no, I was just pointing out that I had a 250 HPS on previous grows. this grow I have used a 400w MH/HPS. MH for veg HPS for flowering

wow...that is good to hear.
What is the temperature at the top of the canopy? That will tell you just how close you can get the light with out burning the tops of the plants.
There is a point late in the cycle where the leaf will thin out because the plant is using up the stored energy of the leaf. At that point the leaf will show bad nut burn and be crisp but browner then yellow and the tips will be more white and burnt from the heat of the light.
Just watch the canopy temperature.

sadly the temps vary, I have a thermometer a little below canopy level. It's usually from the mid 70's to the mid 80's. occasionally when weather is hot it has reached low 90's, there is nothing I can do about this unless I had A/C and I just cant afford that, so I'm watching closely for hermies. The light has a heat shield so I'm able to keep it closer than without. they have at least 3 weeks left so I'm hoping the buds will fill out a fair bit more but can never be sure how much.

I believe we're talking about the same strange results. I have a few of them doing the same thing. The way I'm understanding it is that they are what is called "Ruderalis." I'm just going by what I read in the Cannabis Grow Bible. Take a look at pic. three of my current grow. See the similar results? Pic. two shows a real weird bird. Pic. three is the top of another plant going weird. Did you buy your seeds or get them from some stash you bought? Maybe it's a hybrid that needs more generations of growth before it stablizes into a new strain. That's my understanding of what's going on. I wish I knew for sure...

ye, I see what you mean, but my strain is BB x NL which is indica/sativa, not ruderalis. is yours from bag seed

It is caused by too much nitrogen during flowering or sometimes superthrive during flowering will do that also. I had the same problem a while back I picked up some cha ching and used it a week early and the streched like 4-5 inches as long as it isn't too close to the end of harvest the will fill in some. This pic is near the end were they had filled in some

Don't you guys think it could be a pheno type thing.
Maybe that plant takes after the Thai in the BB and the NL.

I dont subscribe to the too much nitrogen theory as the cause.
On many plants, you will have both fat and thin bud tops.
I do however think that SuperThrive in the flower period is a culprit however. Too much of even good things can be bad.
Odds are, its the strain and thats just the way some of them work out.
