Light times

whats the recommended light amount for vegetative state and also for flowering?

most posts i read say that for
Veg: 16/8
and
Flowering: 12/12
some people recommend to leave your room dark for last 1-2 days...
dunno if that does any good!

For veg 18/6 or 24/0.But for flowering 12/12.
