Xerostomia is the medical term for a dry mouth due to a lack of saliva.

Xerostomia is sometimes colloquially called pasties or cottonmouth, the latter especially when occurring as a side effect, primarily after smoking marijuana or during a hangover.

Xerostomia can cause difficulty in speech and eating. It also leads to halitosis and a dramatic rise in the number of cavities, as the protective effect of saliva is no longer present, and can make the mucosa of the mouth more vulnerable to infection. Notably, a symptom of methamphetamine abuse, meth mouth, is largely caused by xerostomia.

i find that if i drink milk as apposed to water, im less likely to get cottonmouth. dont someone reply saying this is medically impossible or something, but it just works for me.

Drinking milk would stop it because the milk is suspended fat in water, which would coat the mouth, tounge, throat.

something about dairy on a dry hot mouth.....yeesh....not gonna happen....on a cooler note...i saw 'dry mouth gum' at the walgreens when buying my home drug test kit....it said "for the cooling relief of drymouth and drymouth related symptoms"....somebody might want to check it out.

Milk is awesome when you're high! Drinking water, pop, beer... yeah, that'll quench your thirst for a few seconds, but milk does a body good. :D Ok, insert cheesy line there.

It really does work at solving the cotton mouth problem.

I was reading this thread and thinking hmm sort of a dumb question but valid and then i went back and misread the question as why do you get cottonmouth...after correcting my thought i began to ponder that my self. yea i know our saliva glands dry up and crap but why do that happen with weed. it happens when you run and exercise because of dehydration; your body sends the fluid to other places like sweat glands... however when i smoke i dont tend to sweat a lot of produce much of any fluid. any have an answer for me or am i over thinking all this crap?
