ive heard that if you bring young plants out side, they might get eaten by some insects, when should they be able to go out side?

I have two plants that are 4 feet +...
If I move them to the outside, will they thrive? I'm new to this stuff...

you can put them out at any time if using barriers. i use alum cans with the ends cut off and surround the seed/seedling with a can and it keeps the cutworms and other crawling pests off and can be left throughout the plant's life or removed once the 'bark' is developed.

indoor plants need to be taken under the sun in stages. they sunburn like we do (but deadlier for plants) and need time to adjust. when i move plants from the indoors i take 10 days to give them full sun...iow, start them in full shade and gradually move then to full sun over 10 days...
that's what i do.
