A really good friend of mine i was talkking to on msn i said last time i had music on this loud neighbor came round to complain cuz he cud'nt hear his tv all he could hear was slipknot. Well, he called me a goth (hes kinda a chav but he used to listen to shit like offspring and guns 'n roses) well, i said to him, that i get SO sick of people puting other people in groups. All we do is judge someone by what they listen to, and put them in one of these tight groups. Goths, chavs, moshers, punks, head bangers, hippys or w.e... all we do is put everyone in tight groups and then these tight groups start to hate each other. Like chavs hate goths, so they beat them up, and proper goths might hate punks for example? and it turns everyone against each other because we all have these "groups" and some people out there are called wanna be's, thats when they try to act like someone they're not to be in one of the groups they gone in because they think its the strongest. Which would proberly be chavs, because the others are all free minds, chavs are just little shits who think they're cool.
But ffs. why put someone in a group? and i said to him he can't be me in a group because i listen to stuff from slipknot to prodigy or pink floyd led zep, oasis, green day, offspring ect. ec.t
So i can't be put in a group because i dont decide to go in any of just enjoy all of the music. But why the fuck do we even put each other in groups? can't we just get along. I would love to see a chav hangin out with a goth and both bein like best friends. I think if i saw that THEN i would know this world is a peacefull planet.

I agree with ya. You can't judge people by what they listen to. Maybe by how they act, dress, speak etc.... but not music.

exacly. I dress normal, i wear jeans and i have band tshirts and i also just have plain tshirts aswell and hoodies and stuff. But i love stuff like my slipknot avatar cuz i love the darkness of it and i love an anger, but i love stuff like pink floyd because i think stuff like that is an artform and i like stuff like prodigy just cuz it sounds pretty trippy and badass :D :D
Im glad someone made sense of this thread. at first i thought no one was understand me cuz im to stoned :stoned:

What the fuck is a goth anyway? Every "goth" I've ever spoken to had no idea what it was. Labels wouldn't be so bad if you just ignored them, example, I listen to a lot of Pink Floyd, so I get labeled, "stoner." But I also listen to rap, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, so it completely ruins any label whatsoever. They're just labels, they don't mean anything.
Wait wait wait wait...You're mad at him calling you a "goth", yet you call him a "chav?" Man it feels like I'm in the Twilight Zone or some shit. If you want to not be labeled, don't use labels yourself. Too lazy to explain right now, besides this is probably going to be my last post here, the forum has gone to shit with the new management.

I'm with you Crazypothead. I think it's natural for our brains to quickly assess people. Music you listen to, the friends you keep, your speech--these are all valid signs that explain who you are. Some people are just bigots. Others like most of us appreciate forums like this where you get the chance to meet so many different types of people. Anyway, have a great day!

Im not mad about it im just saying how stupid it is. But thats the group HE considers himself to be in.
I don't think I've ever been judged by what music I listen to.
There is this one prick at work who always brings the energy in the room down, though. I remember we were talking about that movie "Grandma's Boy" and we were all laughing about how she thought the bong was a vase. Then I made a comment that insinuated that I smoked weed. And he goes ohhh, you're a stoner. How long before you go brain-dead, buddy?
Wtf? How can you love everything about a stoner movie and still discriminately-hate the pot culture?

Well everyone does it just don't consider yourself a chav, mosher, grunder, goth etc...
Be your own person, dress how you want, act how you want and listen to whatever music you want.
Dont let pepople label you.
Just because you listened to 50cent or snoop dogg or something wouldn't make you a gangsta.

Labels are seriously fuckin pointless, I've had to deal with that shit all my life, I wear black and only black unless I need to wear a diff color. I listen to metal, psychodelic, r&b, hip-hop, trance, and a lot of classic rock, and blues, and for some reason everyone sees me as the goth kid, just for the fact of me wearing black, but its not like I wear trench coats or anything, I wear normal clothin that happens to be black, and I dress pretty ghetto most of the time...
Labels sucks, and the word poser pisses me off more than anything, don't judge a book by its cover.

See, i may be the reverse of this stereotype. I like heavy music and I have some concert shirts and of course wear jeans, but I never painted my nails black or any other shit like that (nothing against anyone that does, I just don't care for it myself). Overall I dress like a regular guy, but whenever I got to a concert (like NIN last summer), I get treated like a frat-boy who's out of place. I don't care though. I allways have a blast, but it does get tiring catching attitude from people. Like I'm not really a fan or something.
I fucking hate that shit man...i kno what u mean....im always getting thrown in to stereo-typical groups....i dress in baggy clothing, nothing outrageous, im pretty clean the way i look, but because of me listenin to rap most of the time and just because i wear Ecko, im labeled as a wanna be gangster...i dont talk like one, i know i dont live in the ghetto, and i dont go around flaunting guns, drugs, or anything of that matter.
Its just cause i listen to hip-hop and dress a certain way, even if u guys saw how id dress, you guys would be able to tell i dont dress to much like a thug, i admit i wear baggy clothes but nothing like my t-shirt hanging down to my knees bullshit. I dont get thrown into groups a lot but iv noticed when it has happened and i have taken offense.
I really hate how if i like listening to "gangster" music...ima gangster...y? i dont understand why people have to be, what they listen to.....
if anything im a pothead but i still attend college so its like i still have my shit straight

i agree also, but not about what is highlighted, you can't judge someone on any of these things because that is not who they are. :D

Honestly, I don't hate labelling or being labelled. I admit I am guilty of calling people goths, punks, "mooiboys", lesbians, christians, germans, retards, teachers, stuudjes, geeks and that kind of stuff. I also don't mind being called a stoner, a junk or other, as long as there's at least a little truth in it.
I'm pretty self-confident I guess. Maybe that helps. I even dare to say I'm at peace with myself and who I am. I wouldn't want to change myself for the world.

If you wanna listen to that kind of music for whatever reason you choose, thats your choice, go for it, I dont care, I could careless if you walked your ass right off a cliff. The thing is that if your neighboor could hear it, your bringing him into the situation as well, trust me you dont want to start beefing with neighboors early, it makes this difficult. I know that if you were blasting that horrible music(remember this is all my opinion, im not attacking you) then I would sure as hell come over and bitch you out if you were just being inconsiderate.
As to your groups thing, its just the way things are and have been. There is always going to be classifications for people to put you in so that they can think that they have you figured out.
First things first, chill out with the loud slipknot music man. No reason to blast that shit because im sure nobody in the listening distance wants to hear it, its morbid and im gonna go out on a limb here and say that normal people shouldnt be listening to those kind of lyrics. Its not normal, cannot be healthy, and possibly will piss others around you off....
Step back from your side so you can look at both sides, thats the only way you can see this thing without being biased!

I didn't mean anything negative about it, but it's the truth. People can't help what music they like (I can't at least), but they can help the way they dress and act around other people. The way we present ourselves is a statement to the people around us. If you wear oversized shoes, paint your face and shove a red ball on your nose, then people are gonna think you're a clown. It's like when someone paints thier hair blue and pierces thier eyebrows and they get peeved when people stare. Again, nothing wrong with the way other people dress, but if you look like a duck, walk like a duck and talk like a duck, then you're prolly a duck.

Hmm... I judge people by what they listen too. If people listen to music about slitting wrists, killing eachother, you've gotta wonder what they think.
So if you listen to something like say.... darkside of the moon? then what would that mean... Just because SOME heavy metal bands might have SOME songs that are about suicide, it dos'nt suddenly mean that the person listenin to that music is sucidle.
"I am a world before i am a man i was a creature before i coud stand i will remember before i forget, before i forget that"
See, thats a slipknot song. A heavy metal song, NO WHERE on the song is it about sucide, but how can u judge someone cuz they listen to THOSE lyrics?

I maybe wrong about someone if I judge them.
Maybe you listen to music like that because you like being different?
"listen to music like that" music like what? asshole, i listen to a variety of things, "like being different" wtf are u saying? ur saying i listen to heavy metal because i like being diffrent? dont give me that bullshit, if you bothered to read this thread PROPERLY you would of read the part where i sed i listen to a variety of shit, i listen to prodigy from slipknot to pink floyd. So shut the hell up, because i proberly like the same type of music u like. Or mybe not? but why should it be THAT important? its only music, ffs. ALL music is an artform, u get a few which obvoiusly ar'nt but sometimes u gotta accept the fact ppl are diffrent. But u cant say to me "listen to music like that" BECAUSE i dont just listen to music as u claim to be " that" because as i sed i listen to a variety, thought i wud mention it again because ur either not reading it or u just keep forgetting....
