What Pipe?

Hey, I just found this site and I'm loving it already! This is my forst post whoot! Sorry if this topic has been covered before but I couldn't find anything on it.

I want to buy a pipe to smoke draw. I have about a tenner to spend (thats about $20 to my friends on the other side of the pond).

I've seen a hell of alot of different pipes and I don't know which one to choose. I like the look of the little glass ones or the little metal ones. I want one that is discreet and easy to clean for short sessions with my mates and on my own.

So basically could someone give me a crash course on the differences and how to use them.

In specific:
do they have a carb?
do I have to keep burning the bottom of the bowl or do i just relight the draw after every toke
and do I need to use baccy?

Some have carbs some dont! no you dont need baccy, and just lite the bud! metal gets hot and doesnt taste to good, i would go with a small glass spoon or chillum. it will cost more but be worth it, just dont drop it! you could just buy some papers and save some money for a good pipe, bubbler or small bong!:)

wow thanks for the quick response!! I think I might go for one of those little glass ones then. I'd love to save up for a bong but I'm limited to the size of a shoe box. (Underneath the floorboards lol).

One more thing then, this might sound stupid but if I get a glass one like the one in the pic http://everyonedoesit.com/online_headshop/Boxed_Glass_Pipe.cfm?iProductID=2137 does it have a mesh? what stops burning ash going straight into your mouth?

Just light it enough to get it lit. I have a 13" steamroller and when the resin starts building up, I just run water through it and it tastes pretty, again. It might take you a while to perfect it, but once you do, you'd barely light and it pulls as much as you want, then when you release your hand at the end of the tube and inhale the smoke collected in the tube (I usually wait until my lungs have already filled up with smoke), only the tiniest puff of smoke gets lost, and it stops burning (as opposed to the streams of smoke lost from bowls in other devices).

You can control the hit to the exact amount of smoke that you want, as long as you know you can handle the smoke that you pull when you release your hand.

They say that a joint scores suprisingly well in THC transfer and with the air-intake of steamrollers, it's like smoking a joint with no loss of slipstream smoke.

Whatever you use, don't hold the lighter to the weed.

You can get glass steamrollers that look like this guy's (1st pic), but both ends are open, in the tube. Here's an old skinny one (3rd pic) of mine that I gave away because I have this new one (2nd pic).

They're not something you're gonna want to carry around, although I used to bring it over to my friends'.

Nearly all pipes are the same. As long as it's got a carb, it'll be good enough to smoke with (if you can smoke out of a fucking coke-can or an apple, then any pipe will do), so just look for one that you like.

get glass not metal. burning metal kills a lot of brain cells and the pipe gets too hot to handle at times.

Theres a bit to consider when going into buying a piece.

Make sure the carb and piece fit in your hand right. Look at the bowl, is it reasonable for what you need. Look at the hole would bud/ash easily fly through it and into your mouth (fireball). If it is you will need a screen. Always go with glass. Is it a tough piece, will it break easy. Is it pretty;)
