Who here is a musician in their own right?

And what instruments do you all play?

Are you songwriters or do you just like learning the songs of your favorite bands and whipping out your instrument of choice at parties or just to cool off?

Well, I'm a bass guitar player. I love my bass and I think I'll put a picture of her up as my avatar soon. I also play guitar from time to time but I don't write music on it, I just play songs I know.

I'm trying to write music on the bass, but it's really hard lol I've already suprised myself because I didn't think I was capable of doing it!

Anyway, how about all of you? I just want to see how many fellow musicians lurk about these boards :D

Peace,
Jake

banjo fuckin kicks ass...its a hard tuning to get used to after guitar, and has that other odd string....but its fuckin fun, sounds cool

you can now get 6 string banjos, that tune the same as a guitar

Nice, GS.

I guess we should also post a bit about our instruments...

My bass is a 2003 Ibanez Gio, right handed, one volume knob and a 3-way tone switch. I love her, I'd definitely marry her if it was legal lol. Last night I finally (after 3 years now) gave her a name and put my little signature symbol (a flaming eye turned vertical and looking down) on her back. Her name's Angela d'Anima, which means "Angel among souls" :D

And to the turntabler, it's an instrument if you can make sounds with it that aren't recordings of other people doing whatever on THEIR instruments...so as long as you don't just sit there with Wish You Were Here spinning, you're a musician :D

yeah i used to do the same on a 6 string till i got my 7,i still use heavier gauge strings of course on both.but i tune one step down,so i go ADGCFAD.yeah gotta get it set up properly, especially the floyd rose, which can be a real pain in the ass till u learn how to adjust it !

im a drummer, been playing for about a year or so now, i record my drumming all the time, even practises then listen to it back and it means i can work on my timing and stuff. I got myself a pearl export kit, snare, 2 toms, floor tom, hi hat, ride cymbal and crash cymbal, plus 2 pedals for double bassing. I don't really ever play covers, my mates play guitar and therell play say a riff from a slayer song and ill just drum to it how i want to. Im a very improvised drummer, can sit on my drums for an hour and just play watever i want, really trying hard to do sum jass drumming atm. I can drum hip hop, rock, hardcore, funk, sum jazz, and also play some break beats to. Gna be putting sum videos of me drumming on youtube as well soon. Cheers BOB

I've been playing the drums for about 2 years. Unfortunately it's not a very nice set but I plan on getting a Pearl Export double bass set as soon as I get the money. I listen to almost anything, jazz, rock, techno, metal, classical, some rap, even country if i'm in the mood. I'd have to say my favorite drummer of all time would be Buddy Rich but in this day and age it would be Derek Roddy. I used to be in this band with my friends but I left cause I moved outta state. Check em out. http://www.myspace.com/xneverthelessx They're not bad but the singer sucks and does the recording by himself lol. anyways...drums kick ass!!

When I land a French horn I'll learn to play it, but for now I just play trumpet and piano. And I love to mess with shit like Fruity Loops and Cool Edit Pro and make my own music.

I play guitar and have been for 15yrs. I played bass for a few years, but I kind of lost interest.

I have played in 2 different bands, both which we used to play gigs. One, when I was 17 and we played Deftones, Snot influenced music. We called ourselves Blindmans Bitch. We stopped haning out though as they wanted to continue playing semi-heavy music, but I wanted to explore further into heavier music.

Then 2 years ago, when I was 22, I played in another band, we called ourselves Hedstrung and we played countless shows around Alberta. There were 3 guitar players, 1 of them singing, and a drummer. We had no bass and our sound was thunderous and loud. We played Pantera, Down influenced music, but, we split up because my one friend died from past complications of being hooked on meth. Too much damage was done to his body to recover from past addictions, and he died and went braindead when he slipped into a coma. I still play our songs too. Monster heavy and people would enjoy it if we were still playing.

I'm still looking to get a band put together, but a lot of the people here aren''t willing to play some ball grabbing, hell raising music. A lot of groups here are Emo, and not heavy enough, so it's been tough looking for someone who doesn't like to go home and cry all over their guitar. :D

I play heavy music mostly, but lately, I've been dabbling into some Pink Floyd and learned Wish You Were Here a few days ago.

I have a Fender. I'm not sure on the exact model, but it looks identical to Epiphone's SG model, but it says Fender on the headstock. I equipped the neck pickup with a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker.

I alos have a '67 Fender Strat, but I took the strings off and put her away. It has more sentimental value than playing value. Single coil pickups just don't compare to humbuckers, so I put her away in her case.

I have an old Nova acoustic guitar. I found this thing for $2 at a thirft shop. The neck was broken and needed to be fixed up big time. I took it home, and in 48hrs, I fixed it up and it sounds amazing. Not bad for a $2 guitar. It only has 18frets on it, which makes it quite small, but I love it.

I play through a Fender amp as well.

PS: I tried to play guitar but considered myself as having failed after a year of effort and lack of interest. Rob Zombie signed my fender.

ive played guitar for 10 years i have a fender stat american, a fender classical acoustic, and a gibson songwriter delux cutaway acoustic. I took lessons for like 2 years once a week. and i have just been learning stuff since then.

Drums. i have been playing drums for since i was little. i have been playing drums in bands live for 7 years playing around festivals and clubs. I am playing in a new rock and blues and classic rock band thats about to play around places right now except we gotta get a new bass player who can play good. and we are thinking about trying to find a singer instead of the guitar playing singing. we have some original stuff its kinda like grungy blues rock. i will post some music once we record in a couple months
