Unhappy transplant

Hey everyone,

Hypothetically, a friend of a friend of mine found a tomato plant next to a bus stop, and dug it up into a cup to bring home. Because it is dangerous to let people see one paying special attention to tomato plants, the uprooting was done in a hurry, so some roots were exposed for the walk home yesterday. The plant was watered profusely to minimize the stress after potting. Even so, today was hot and dry, so the plant looked pretty terrible when the FOAF got home.

Attached, there is a photo right after transplanting and a photo 30 min after watering after getting home.

Think it has a chance? What can be done to save it?

that is a tomato damn i barly reconized it i would give it a little nitrogen then lay off the water for a few days and maybe it will make it but it dosent look good did you get all the roots?

I think that's probably just a plant that looks similar, but it's hard to tell without a better photo. There's plants like that growing all over down by our bike rack, but they're certainly not weed. But, it's a goner. Just buy some seeds if you wanna be serious about growing.

hypothetically, if someone had a bad transplant like that and the leaves were falling like that, its likely the root trauma. Using root grow stimulator would have helped during the transfer, but would it look like that before getting better?

If ever confronted with this type of problem, I would be interested to know the best way to help the plant recover? Cut worst leaves hoping for few better ones to recover? What if everything is bad except the stem, still a chance for regrowth and recovery? If anyone knows more about this please share the knowledge
