View Full Version : Renting a house for a large grow op

Hey what's up everyone,

I need an excuse to tell the property management company for my need to rent a 3 bedroom house. I'm in my mid 20's.

If the house is located near a college, I'll say I'm a grad student and will be getting roomates. I don't know if this is a good excuse if the house is located across town from the campus when there's better options available.

I could say, "yeah, I want this house because its located next to ___(such and such place)____." But that would mean I would be limited to choosing a place near "such and such place" when dealing with that property managment company.

If I'm making this overly complicated please help me.

By the way, I'll be using an unknowing co-signer for this (I wouldn't meet the income requirements to rent a home), making it all the more difficult.

An excuse?

I would think they'd be happy to make money...

Hmm... but I see your situation...

Look at them straight in the eye, and tell them you need one room for sleeping, then the other two for each one for your gargantutan balls.

^everyday it's posts like these that contribute to the weakness of this website.

I dont know if you ever contribute anything useful or not, so I appologize if you do. It's just that I'm from overgrow and this place is depressing.

Haha!

Look man... I'm not going to start this into a flame war...

I'll take what you said about me with stride... :)

Peace to you man.

Excuses... ???

Dude... the "ex-wife" excuse sounded good.

The various "roommates" excuse sounds good.

You can tell them you own your own company, and you need two rooms... one for computers, the other for the "workshop".

What ever dude... enjoy your next bowl while thinking about my contributions...

BTW: Welcome to the best """""""depressing""""" site on the internet... MUCH better than "OverGrow"... yeah... overgrow my ass

ahhaha...
turtle ilove you.....

giant balls.... hahahaha

rentng a place for a big grow is a very delicate situation.. things will become increasingly intense as you begin to grow and harvest and sell you goods...

the most important element is a landlord that never never never comes around. you should try try to talk to somebody who has rented from the landlord before and ask them about the landlords behavior.

it is extremely nerve racking to have even the remotess possibility of a landlord coming around.

you will not need any story regarding why you want a three bedroom house. if they do ask why you need all that room, then that is a sign that they are not the right match for you.

I speak from much experience in this area.

I really am human...

overgrow was a ship with 10,000 egomaniacs. they loved themselves so much that they didn't even throw their shit overboard. they even loved their shit. eventually the shit piled up so high and deep that the ship began to sink. but they still did not throw it overboard... cause they thought that their shit did not stink... well the ship full of shit loving assholes sunk....

Yeah, but what happened to the shit? It washed up on the shore of an uncharted island, where the natives were peaceful. Sure, there were some problems on the island, but there were bigger problems once the shit started piling up. The shit made people angry, and the people fought amongst themselves. Eventually, the natives made a decision. Either the shit turn themselves into the peaceful people that were once on the island, or the shit must go back to sea, and find another island to contaminate.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, Gilligan's Island was an awesome show.

Ginger or MaryAnne ? ... :D

Ginger was awesome, but Mary Anne was more homegrown. Like, I'd expect to get more out of Ginger because she's more experienced, but Mary Anne had that whole innocence thing working for her.

You know what's wierd is, the only last names mentioned on that show were the Howell's's. Supposed to be because of the general sterotypical...ness of the characters or something.

MaryAnne...she could bake coconut pies. Ginger had to have six strains of clap and would end up looking like Betty Davis in the Baby Jane movie.

And, Halluc, F*CK you for bringing your dark mood here. Now, go take a nap and consider an apology. Maybe have some coconut pie.

You know, coconut is a natural laxative. If they ate nearly as much coconut as it showed on the television show, they all would have suffered from severe diarrhea.

Man, I should have my own show called "I shit you not".

Hey halluc. House grow operations dont neccesarily work all that great in my opinion. If you're going to have an unknowing co-signer she or he is going to see the bills if they rack up too high, and Im guessing they will because you said they're your income. So what you can do to counter-act this problem is to purchase some top of the line generators.

Also , when purchasing the generators make sure they are dam quiet, my good friend and his mates got busted for a 4 house condiminium grow op, 800 plants a house, it was very saddening. I wouldnt like to see all those plants in your house go to waiste:(

^The electricity bill? Why would my co-signer see the electricity bill? The utilities will be in my name.

Thanks Knowm,

Yeah more than 3000. I will be renting from a property management company. You need to have a story ready man. It's not going to be like they're going to interrogate me, but at the same time I need to have a good story in case it comes up as to if I'm going to have roomates, etc.

Just being alone with agent who's renting the house out to you...these things will probably be discussed as natural discourse.

Alright mate, I tried to help.

Im assuming your co-signer will be seeing the bill when it racks up because you wont be able to pay all of your bills with that high of an electricity bill.

That is of course what a co-signer is there for right?

Well, say that you will have family members that will periodically stop by, coming in and out of town. Really check out the landlord to see if he's the nosey type, though. You might also wanna invest in a few generators. Remember, the less attention the better.

No man, a co-signer isn't usually there for financial support. Basically if you can't pay your rent (this is entirely seperate from utilities in the U.S.) then the cosigner has to pay on your behalf.

In my case, I'm using a co-signer because like I said, I dont have a job that pays me enough to meet the minimum income requirements to rent a house.

Graph,
Gasoline for the generators would eat up a good amount of money. I would like to talk to other people that the property management company leases through. I'll be looking for a management company that's as negligent as possible :)

Thats what Im talking about dog. If you cant meet the requirements to pay your electricity bill, your co signer is, and he or she is going to ask WHY it is so high .. So please take advice on generators, I mean nothing in a negative way to you, but Im trying to point out whats already there.

You dont have a cosigner for electric. The electric goes in your own name. You don't need a cosigner. It's a different entity. It works as a seperate system from the rental agency. They don't share information.

I will be paying for my own electricity, and rent, so there's not an issue.

The only way I can see getting a generator is if my breaker can't provide enough power to a certain room. They're inneficient, noisy, expensive to purchase, and consume $.

The actual OWNER of the property (not the property manager) may be the nosey type and may come on his property to walk around and check things out. This is something I definately want to be wary of. I'll probe for information about the homes actual owner. Maybe I can find a place owned by someone who lives in another country.

Sorry for the dp, but I thought that last post sounded kinda harsh.

What I should have added was "sorry if you took it the wrong way, I didn't mean anything negative by it"

Hall,

I'm happy we're in more better terms now. :)

As to circuit breakers, don't worry... they can handle it. Big time... you might need to upgrade your breakers to 30A or the big 50A ones... but the circuit breaker will handle it fine.

If you need to change the breakers, don't pay an electrician... go to Home Depot (or some net search) and get an electrical 1-2-3 book. It's a very simple thing to do... just cut off the main power. Don't want to get shocked.

As to the landlord coming around... CHANGE THE LOCKS. ALL of them.
I would say that 145% of the time, the keep copies of the keys... although they tell you that they "don't". Yeah, sure...

For your windows, I suggest you put up some blinds, then build a "box" behind the window... line it up with black foam sound-proofing stuff... then have your air intakes/exhausts through there...

Is it a 1st floor, 2nd, or a highger up number?
If it's a 3rd or higher floor, you're cool. A 2nd and 1st, you gotta be more carefull.

Just two or three thoughts... peace man

well. dude, it sounds like you have a plan. as long as you rush into a place, you should be fine. using generators sounds like a buzz kill.

conserving energy is going to be key. if you want to hear a true story, google callabasas (sp), marijuana. you will find a story about police in calabassas, california and how they use electricity bills to bust people. it is worth reading and being aware of....

keep us posted.. and good luck...

Well ,if you are broke as you say then they might ask for a co-signer on your utilities. If you have no credit. Then you either have a co-signer or pay a fat deposit. Most likely a deposit.
Landlord always have a key Turtle.
It's the law. They can come in whenever they want. After all they own it!
Hall has the right idea. You need to find a land lord that is never around. Preferably lives in a nother town.
