Hi all,

We live in Spain and just going in our local 'farmacia' and buying Epsom salts is not and option. We've got hold of some magnesium sulphate crystals but are not sure how much to use. The best that we've managed to get off the label is that 'pH solution of 5% = 5.95'. We don't need to to poison our babies so any advice will be gratefully received.

Cheers

Uh, the formula you have at the top is the usual form that epsom salt comes in. You said that you can only find magnesium sulphate crystals, but that is epsom salt. I am not sure how much to use, but if you know how much epsom to use then you are set.

I knew that magnesium sulphate was Epsom salts (even though it's 40+ years since I did chemistry at school :) ) but wasn't sure on amount to use - in case the formula was not *identical* to the composition of Epsom salts. I'm trying to take *real* good care of these babies. :)

Thanks for the advice.

Oh happy daze

cannabis eats up epsom salts like theyre a once in a life time find. Dont worry about Ph too much if you dont over feed. since magnesium and sulfer are secondary nutes, you should give them half of your primary nutes. for example... if you feed your plants 1 tsp of 20-20-20 (primary) per gallon, then you should feed 1/2 tsp of epsom salt (seconday) per gallon. If you over feed them with salts, then your weed may face nutrient lock-out. Does this help?

I've was giving them a reasonable squirt of liquid feed I got from the local growshop twice a week but then they started to yellow so I cut it back. I realise now that they were pot-bound and not just being overfed. I've stepped up the feed to about 2 tablespoons of feed (between three plants) every day/every other day and they're taking off! :) I just get the feeling that, if there's nothing in the pot except roots, they're probably a bit short of everything. I'll pop some Epsom salts in a couple of times a week.

Thanks very much

I don't think you need to add any of those things a couple of times per week, unless you are using a VERY weak mixture or very large pots or something. Keep in mind that too much of any of the nutrients will kill your girls. I've never added any fertilizer more than once a week, or even once a week. In face since I've started using organic amendments in my soil I only add fertilizer once at the beginning and once in the middle of flowering.
