Hey everybody. Well ive been running for the past 8 months id say in order to get into better shape. Now i also smoke alot of weed and sometimes cigarettes. I was just wonderin if the runnin helps clear my lungs up (i think it does) or if it is like bad for the lungs. Also i was wonderin if weed deposits tar and such in your lungs like tobaccao does.

Thanks, later

I'm not going to go down into scientific detail, but as far as smoking weed goes i've heard it to help improve the cellias(?) which help clean out the tars in yourl ungs as opposed to cigarettets which damage cellias making your lung get tared up. Someone please correct me on this if i'm wrong.

Running is good for your lungs, and heart, as it helps to build up your lung capacity. Smoking cigs is obviously bad for your lungs. If you only smoke "sometimes" I'd say stop now while you can. I smoked cigs for 15+ years and quitting was the hardest thing I've ever done. My lungs feel soooo much better though.

As for weed and your lungs, from most things that I read, weed doesn't have all the carcinogens that tobacco does. I still often wonder how good for your lungs it is though. Think of how gooey and resin coated a pipe gets over time. Wouldn't the same thing be happening to your lungs??

read up on how weed helps improve lung cellias's for cleaning out tar, your answer may lie there.

I dont run much, I swim. Smoking definately hasnt hurt me..I dont think...all state 2 years in a row, all-american consideration this year..(not braggin..just sayin).

I think heavy exercise helps clear your lungs out..atleast for me I find myself coughing up big lugies during a hard set

Hey there, fatweedsack!

Running's good for your lungs. Any cardiovascular exercise is. It gets you breathing in air and exhaling out carbon dioxide more quickly, exercises those muscles, gets you coughing and clearing out phlegm and other stuff you need to keep from building up. It gets you working major muscle groups in your body, which help you build strength and keep fat off, and it lowers blood pressure and gives you an endorphin rush. (At first when you tax your heart/lungs, your BP and heart rate go up with the burst of exertion, but then they go down and tend to stay down lower in well-exercise individuals.) It helps you get a better, well-oxygenated blood supply to your brain, and it's a natural antidepressant. So keep up that running!

Actually, your lungs' cillia are much akin to braincells in that once you lose them you can't really get them back. So, once you kill off a lot of your cillia (which is the cause of smoker's cough) you can't repair them to anywhere close to the level they once were. BUT, you can increase your vital capacity, which is the amount of air you can inhale, and also increase your VO^2 max.

Basically, you can never fix the filtering mechanisms in your lungs, but as long as you keep up the aerobic exercise you can increase your bodies ability to absorb oxygen which will stop you from being out of breath etc.

Obviously, running is good for your lungs. As long as you give your lungs some adequate exercise. I find that I consistently need to exercise my cardiovascular and respiratory system to keep my lungs in shape. If I ever say, skip too many days of this exercise, an accumulation of some sort occurs (mucus), I experience sclerodermic like effects of the lungs, and an overall decrease in lung stamina. Btw, I abstain from tabacco. The smell gives me headaches. :(

what you mean is cillia which is all the tiny hairs along your esophagus. Smoke of any kind is bad for them cause it makes them more brittle.

The less you smoke (of any substance) the healthier your lungs are
