Hey i have spent about a month here on cannabis.com and have been reading as much as i can about everything. It is a wealth of info and have found some really good stuff.

I wanted my first attempt to be very simple but realized that growing is not that way but i figured i would give it a shot with what i got.

My supplies are:

-Approx 1 large ziplock of organic potting soil (Just Soil)
-Approx 1 normal sized ziplock of perlite (additive to soil for oxygen P.S. Thanks lowes for hunting the bag down for me it only took you guys like ½ hour)
-Approx 2 tablesoons of general nute 14-14-14 (mixed into the soil just like perliteâ?¦Slow release)
-75 watt plant light for intitial grow (more later?)
-1 $1 pot for plant
-1 $2 pot for transplant
-Average lighting fixture
-Vacation timer.

That being said i think my weakest area is lighting....however i wish to solve this with a better bulb but this should do for my germ/initial grow (under 8 inches) right?????

I germinated using the standard paper towel method (no problem here i have yet to have a seed which didnt crack)

I planted today with my setup and am waiting for results in the next couple of days with sprout action..

I was wondering about how close do you want a light of this size to the plant. Right how i have it about 6 inches away and it seems to be drying out the top of the soil quite easyily (is this normail i suppose some would be).

I would post pics but i dont have a camera maybe i can in the next day or two.

Thanks to all the Message board peeps for input you guys have already helped me by not making the same mistakes.

I will keep adding as i go along

Cheers and much respect

Hey SilentHawk36,
How you doing? :)

What's a "plant light" exactly?

The setup sounds cool... don't add ferts yet...

It is a phillips plant light i bought at home depot. It fits a standard lamp socket but i am unsure of what type it is. I know i am a complete newbie.

:D

hmmmm i dont think the plant lights at home depot are really suitable for cannabis.......if your going to get a cheap light at home depot that will fit in a normal light socket go for the compact florecent. I bought one that was like $6.00 and has a 2600 lumen output. if you find something with more lumens, go for that.....the more the better, good luck

oh also, you should probably get a couple of those, as the plant gets bigger it will need more light

After looking further into the box i found this light is agro-lite. While i dont know what this means i am hoping for some additional input on this matter. Looks like i am headed to home depot tomarrow to pick up a better bulb.
