Newb question about lights...

hy guys, i´ve just finished setting up my indoor grow room, but i have a question, i´m using a 400w metal halide bulb, in a 18h cycle, and it just realized that my electric bill will probably blow of the chart...can anyone give me an insight on this???I mean will it be a really over the top???Are there more economical solutions thanks 4 the help..

It's not gonna be that bad. However, there are many ways you can start saving money. For instance, stop using the air conditioning and use fans and blankets instead. Make sure you always turn your lights off when you leave the room, etc.

Let's say they charge $0.07 per kilowatt. (400 x 24) x 30 = 288000. Multiply that by 0.001 (converting to kilowatt) and you have 288. 288 x 0.07 is $20.16, which is the cost of running a 24-hour setup.

I'm gonna skip the math part for 18/6, so let's just skip ahead to the answer. It would be $15.12 a month, assuming your electric company charges .07 per kilowatt.

U couldn´t be more specific...tks a bunch graph, indeed the price its about the same (0.06�) so doing the grow formula i will pay somewhre between 10 and 15�...wich is a lot less then i espected (and a lot lot lot less of what i usually spend on pot)...so if my math is wright i´ll spend like 35� for 140g of RedHairSkunk....oh yes!!!!!this baby is going to be high high....:D :D

yeah, it's the GROW lounge. I've noticed more leniency in the grow section than other sections of the site, and I think that's the way it should be. Besides, it doesn't really matter.

I am a cheap fuck so when I plan on growing I wont worry about it because I plan on unplugging everything and keeping everything off thats not necessary in my house until I'm done with my grow, if I get really cheap I might just use my grow light as my source for light when I wanna do something that requires sight lol...Soo as of now the only thing I can think of that will stay plugged in while I'm growing is my refrigerator and one grow light :).

Yeah, my mom told me this..If you ask me I think she even grows, now that I come to think about it..she might. Because she really didnt mention this "unplug-to-save" until I really noticed she smoked marijuana and everytime I go in her bag (I dont take anything, I'm not a theif :p) she has like 3 quarters or more...Hmm, I wonder xD.

I know, I always heard computers used alot of energy but I never really knew how much..but when ever I really start using a HID light or w/e for growing I dont plan on using my computer until I'm done...maybe 5 times a month but thats it :p, I'm too cheap to wanna spend extra bucks.

I completely understand, I have a roomie that has had his PC on since january 24/7, because he doesn't want to reset the desktop resolution when it boots (because he didn't properly install his $400 vid card drivers), I myself dont use my desktop much either, just my 65w laptop, the desktop is for backups only.

ROFL, thats insane..I have a rich friend that kept his laptop PC on for like 200 somethin days because he wanted to break his own record for how long he kept his shit on lol. Damn man, I really do wish I had the extra money like they have..i'd actually use it for stuff that is useful instead of wasting it on shit like that.

Yeah, I'm about ready to kick his damn computer (since he's too lazy to put the sides back on it also...) his PC is like 22% of the total bill(not including my grow which he has NO idea about), not to mention the 27" tv and space heater in his room :( I had to put CFL's in every socket just to offset the cost of his PC, but he makes 3x the bucks I do, so what does he care.

ROTFL dudes i got the idea:D , and add the following, since my ISP changed the 22gb nacional download inluded, to international i have my pc on 24/7....since, bealive it or not March 2005:D :D :D :D .....so that mens that now ill have less time my pc on, so i can have my babies growin in full potencial...
