We donâ??t need all those toys. In America, weâ??re pretty happy paying as little as possible for what we want. Screw supporting our favorite merchant. Who cares if everything is made by Chinese children? Every month there is a holiday that stands less for its original intentions and more for buying things. The biggest one is Christmas. Originally a celebration of the birth of Christ, itâ??s now an exercise in spoiling our children. I am no better but I wish I could change it.

Father Christmas by The Kinks
When I was small I believed in santa claus
Though I knew it was my dad
And I would hang up my stocking at christmas
Open my presents and Id be glad
But the last time I played father christmas
I stood outside a department store
A gang of kids came over and mugged me
And knocked my reindeer to the floor
They said:
Father christmas, give us some money
Dont mess around with those silly toys.
Well beat you up if you dont hand it over
We want your bread so dont make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys
Dont give my brother a steve austin outfit
Dont give my sister a cuddly toy
We dont want a jigsaw or monopoly money
We only want the real mccoy
Father christmas, give us some money
Well beat you up if you make us annoyed
Father christmas, give us some money
Dont mess around with those silly toys
But give my daddy a job cause he needs one
Hes got lots of mouths to feed
But if youve got one, Ill have a machine gun
So I can scare all the kids down the street
Father christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
Well beat you up if you dont hand it over
Give all the toys to the little rich boys
Have yourself a merry merry christmas
Have yourself a good time
But remember the kids who got nothin
While youre drinkin down your wine
Father christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
Well beat you up if you dont hand it over
We want your bread, so dont make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys:thumbsup:

Hey, Minnesota Man! I always look forward to seeing your new drawings each day. They're always very cool.
Yep, I think Christmas is WAY overdone. What made you start thinking about it here in mid May?
Two years ago, we started doing a minimalist Christmas in my family. We all have far too much stuff and don't need more. And when we do need something, we can all go out and get it ourselves. We decided to take what we'd normally have spent and give it to charity. It's worked out well. Except that now we're constantly being hit up by charities all through the year. . . .

Heyyy MM...
I agree for the most part... I can't tell you how much I HATE going Christmas shopping... and how much I loathe people who feel the need to keep up with the Joneses... esp. around the holidays. ;)

My wife got me some shirts from Old Navy. Nice colored T-shirts. The tag says it was $8.50 and made in Bangledesh. So I got to thinking about the whole consumerist society and how we've created giant corporations who can find the cheapest way to make things. I don't know--if I was a kid from Bangledesh making nice and cheap T-shirts for Americans, I would be pissed off. I would be envious of Americans and hate them.

At last, someone with the same views as me! :)
Unfortunately our countries show everything that is wrong with commercialism.
Although the attached picture is 100% fake, its not far off what we could be seeing in the future.

I checked out the storyboards and liked them! And I'm not high. I can appreciate the work that went into those--drawing that many rough thumbnails and storyboarding out a film can be a pain.
Back to the topic of commercialism, maybe we all ought to start celebrating Festivus like Frank Costanza did in "Seinfeld."
