Anyone want to check my numbers here? I'm planning a microscrog box...something i can keep in the back of my closet or something. i'd love to grow 2 plants at a time, but for now i think i'm going to try my hand at one.
so, my grow cab i'm thinking 1 sq ft roughly, and instead of using a pot i read that i can use a pan that is 6 inches deep. using the pan i can greatly reduce the vertical requirements for the box. also, i believe you need 70w per sq ft so i'll pick up a 70w light. i haven't actually seen the lights so i'm not sure how i'm going to mount it, i saw another guy's box where he had the light sitting on top of the box and shining through a square cutout. i might try including it inside the box's design so as to be as stealth as possible. this will, of course, increase the box's height but probably not by much.
ok! so i'm still unsure of the height requirements. to include a light i think i'll need it between 3 and 4 feet high. so the top of the soil is 6 inches from the bottom of the box, i believe the screen (i'm going scrog) sits somewhere between the soil and the light. the light will be 18-20 inches from the top of the plant (is that right? i believe that is the height requirements for 70w). so if that makes sense the light needs to be at maximum 20 inches from the screen, obviously it needs to be adjustable to the plant.
anyway, all mylar covered inside. obviously i'm going soil, the problem i was reading about would be flushing the soil, and to do this looks like the pan/screen needs to be removable from the box. am i on the right track? maybe someone can throw some figures at me, like how high does the screen need to be from the top of the soil? and anyone got links to good 70w lights, i need to know the dimensions of them including the ballast so i can run to home depot and buy some wood. this should be a fun project, i hope to build a nice microscrog box.
oh, and depending on cost i might do a 2 ft long pan with 2 70w lights (or 1 150w) and grow 2 plants...in fact, now that i think about it i'd rather do that! anyway i'm just unsure of height...
