So I just got the complete robot chicken series and the last 7 episodes of south park off torrent and they are in AVI format. My question is how do I convert these so I can burn them to a DVD and have them work on my DVD player. I use Nero if that helps any.

Thanks in advance!!!

Easy as pie.
Download something called WinAVI. It converts .avi into the proper DVD format, plus you can select it to either convert it to PAL or NTSC format. Most DVD players play both though.
Then, just burn the completed files onto a DVD via Nero.

If your on a network you can create a shared folder, OR you could burn it onto a DVD/CD.

You could get an External hardrive or flashdrive

Or you could use something like yousendit.com which allows you to send files to email addresses that are bigger than what the typical email provider allows

Im not on a network and i dont feel like droppin the cash on one just to transfer a few gigs. There isnt any cables i can just hook up to each computer?? It seems like it should be just that simple!

Doing the CD way would take too long to transfer 5 gigs, and the reason i need to transfer is so I can burn them to a DVD. FUCK! So no other way man??

Sorry for draggin this shit out but shit like this is hard to google

Go to groove.net. Do the free trial. Install it on both machines. This creates a folder on your desktop that can be shared by other computers that you invite.

You don't need a network. You just have to be able to install the software on both machines.

The avs are storyboard cells I drew a couple years ago for a movie I intended to make but never did.

Do they suck or what? I hope you hate them.

OtterPop

how does software on 2 different machines connect to transfer??? What am I missing?!!? Do they transfer files over the internet??? 5 gigs is alot of data to transfer if its over the net...

Now that you mention it, I do hate them, they suck! You musta been high when you came up with the storyboard idea.....

Just do it. They are transfered over the internet and it will take awhile but it's automatic.

Yeah, I was high.

Sorry for draggin this shit out but shit like this is hard to google If you're pcs use the same router they are on the same network, and you can simply transfer files with usb or firewire. Not too hard to google.

If both your pcs are hijacking from the same router, they are on the same network. You could try an ftp server: http://www.download.com/Cute-FTP-Home/3000-2160_4-10438486.html?tag=lst-4-1
Most people don't have a usb-a to usb-a cord, but if you do, I think it is drag-n-drop easy. It would look like this: http://www.vpi.us/images/usb-link-cable.jpg
I don't understand why you think transfering 5 GB over the internet would be a lot. Are you slightly noobish? I just don't understand.
The ftp should be easy to do.

slightly noobish?? lmao, sorry that im not as savy but to use the word noob is just fuckin rude!! If you cant understand how I might have trouble then you sir are a noob....

My other computer isnt hijacking anything, this computer is my internet connection or I would already be doing something along those lines. Im gonna look into that male-male usb cable though, thanks man

I guess because one pc isn't connected that would be the best choice. It's too bad they're not both desktops because you could just put the dvd burner in one and then in the other. I just thought of another thing: if you have an ethernet network cable (I know you don't have a network but pcs often come with network cables) you can just hook them up to each other, easy as that.
I'm sorry that I'm trying to help you as I keep coming up with more ideas, it must be annoying.

Windows comes with a file transfer wizard too but it wants a serial to serial cable to work, and that could literally take days to transfer five gigs.

Make sure to talk to someone at the store or buy one with instructions on how to transfer, because it may not be possible to transfer without drivers and a program. DON't go to Radioshack!

eddievanzant
05-13-2006, 11:24 PM
Umm an AVI file around the size of a VCD. Why don't you just put a blank cd in and burn the avi on to that? That's all a VCD is, and it works in almost all players.

ya they are like 10 bucks a DVD but it fits like 8 gigs i think, well ill be set when the price drops down, unless it turns out to be some lame fad....

eddievanzant
05-14-2006, 06:55 AM
No, right now you can get them for about a buck a disc, but that's still infinitely more expensive than my 75 single layer dvds for free after rebate! Just stick with single layers for now. It's faster to burn two full single layers than to burn one dual and it's cheaper. It's good that you got a dual layer because when Blue Ray and HD DVD get put in more pcs the prices of DL will go down.
I got my 75 on black friday but they're still relatively cheap without rebates.

nothin wrong with regular dvds (4.7gb), just get dvdshrink. it shrinks the size of the iso file and you can remove unnecessary stuff like foreign subtitles, blah blah

well tmpgenc 2.5 is pretty good but dont run no programs at the same time cuz it will slow it down.

vso divxtodvd is pretty quick though but i think you're straight if you got a program that only takes 25 mins to convert a 600-700mb cuz the vso takes about an hour or less and i think the same for the tmpgenc.
