Go to "search" at the top of the forum. Type in soil, lights, whatever information you want....you'll find SEVERAL different links. That way you can get different peoples opinions, come to one of your own, and make a system specific for your needs.
Have a good grow!

Quick-and-dirty checklist for a first-time indoor grower:
Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil
Fox Farm 3-pack for nutrients
Vermiculite
Perlite
Dolomite lime
400 watt switchable HPS/MH digital ballast with cooltube
400 watt Hortilux bulb, and any ol' 400 watt MH bulb
4" centrifugal fan (Vortex or whatever)
4" flexible ducting
4" to 6" duct expander (to connect to cooltube)
Carbon filter
Fan speed controller
Big cabinet (4'x2'x6'ish)
Assortment of screws and nails
4 strong casters (so you can roll your cabinet around)
Duct tape
Weather stripping
Rubbing alcohol
2 x 8"x8" Doran darkroom louvres
Drill with bits
Saw with extra blades
Hole saw kit (ebay has em cheap)
8 x 1/2 gallon square pots
6 x 2 gallon square pots
4 x 4 gallon square pots
ph testing kit
Timer
A couple of surge suppressors
Heavy duty extension cord
Some good seeds
30x jewelers' loupe (ebay again)
White paint and paint brushes, or mylar
Staple gun and staples
Probably forgetting a few minor things, but that's a reasonable list to start with anyway.

God Damn. Do I really need all of that stuff. What is the total for all that stuff. What if I just put my seeds in a potting mix, and just transplant it to my backyard, and just water it. thats how my friend did it and it worked for him..

ya you could do that and no you dont need all that stuff for my very simplistic grow i just used pots, fox farm soil, vermiculite, some fertilizer, wood (to make a box), 2 Floro lights, a timer and a power strip.

you guys are a garden-store owner's dream ... $$$$$ ... my first couple of SUCCESSFUL grows consisted of 10" clay pots, full of cheap potting soil, water, and a Mild foliar-feed of Miracle-Gro once a week ... a $10 timer, and four 4-ft flourescent tubes, ... I didnt know anything about light spectrums, nutrients, PH, etc ... but 5 months later, I was high as a kite, on my own small yield ... yes, things changed, things got more expensive, improvements were made, mistakes were made, too ... but, what I learned from those first grows have been immeasurable ... ya gotta crawl before you walk ... enjoy your plants and their growth, it really is educational, and rewarding ... WARNING: you will become emotionally involved with your plants ... if not, you're in the wrong hobby ... :smokin:
